can anyone tell me how to unlock noh/okuni and how to get free mode color change option?
Characters and color editing is unlocked by "buying" them using in-game currency (koku, I think) which you get by completing stages. I can't remember the exact amount you get per stage but it shouldn't take too long to unlock the characters that you want.

Kusegawa shares same map as Tedorigawa in SW3, so that makes it only 19. And add Shikoku and Okehazama for SW2[XL].
22. Shikoku
23. Okehazama
Kusegawa and Tedorigawa are obviously built from a similar base, but there are enough differences that I would at least say 19.5

And you can't add XL stages when we don't know if there will be XL or not for SW3. SW3 XL could add 5 more stages, for all we know.

And honestly, I'd rather a few levels be reused a few times than 1 level (like Sekigahara) being used over and over and over for almost everyone.

But quantity aside, how's the quality of the stages? Do they look nicer than the SW2 versions? All I've see was from gameplay videos; I haven't had the chance to walk around and explore myself. Can you see much more without items popping? Do the levels feel more like the real world counterparts should feel? Are they easier to navigate? etc...

Kusegawa and Tedorigawa are the same exact stage as each other in both SW2 and SW3. The only differences are the time of day and whether some of the "bridges" between inlets are up.

I've just checked the UK amazon... and nothing is up on there... weird...

BTW, can the CAW outfits of the Castle lords and Aya and Masaonori be used with other weapons? Masanori for instance... could he have Okuni's weapon...

Yeah I got it wrong, of course you can't have XL stages included in the main game.

At least Shizugatake looks very nice since there is a small lake in middle of the stage.

Btw, what is the mountain in Yamazaki like this time around?

Yes, you can make a CAW Masanori with Okuni's weapon once you have unlocked the required characters and weapon acquisition. All but Kotarou's movesets are avaliable for CAW characters.

I think it's because of his stretchy arms and stuff. That'd be a pain to animate with other characters, or something, I'm guessing.

I don't know for sure of course, but that's my guess.

Only for CAW. The editing for actual characters is limited to the colors of their outfits, skin, and hair.

Gameplay videos usually don't do this game justice. Compared to the ugliness they have in Samurai 2 the stages and the game itself are beautiful this time around. Of course, maybe I'm only saying that since up until now Koei's textures have been mid-tier quality and everything actually looks smoothed out this time. I've always wondered if this was done intentionally throughout their games to keep stress on the game engine down.

Is it shiny like Dynasty 6? No, but it looks good this time around. The visuals are part of the reason I stand by my statement that this game destroys Samurai 2 and anything that game did. There's still things you can pick out and say, "This could be better," but that's true of all games.

The stages are usually different enough that you forget they share maps. Since different areas are closed off to you or objectives have you keeping to different routes they're not complete carbon copies. The environment also changes enough. There's exceptions to the rule (Hasedou, Kyushu and Odani Castle have the exact same environment and setting. The routes through it and how you progress are what's different) but almost each stage could stand on its own. For shared map stages, I actually approve.

Yamazaki's mountain resembles... an actual mountain. There's plenty of distance you cover to climb it, unless you're playing Nene's version where she scales the whole thing right away when the stage starts. Hell, the stage is mostly mountain. Other than Hideyoshi's and Mitsuhide's camps and a small distance in front of Mitsu's camp, the stage is mountain and a small route that leads around it.

That's one more stage I forgot. Shizugatake isn't unique since it's also used for Yogo shore. Yet it's also one of my favorite stages. Pretty good. :sly:

Can you play stages such as Kawagoe, Yogo lakeside or some "showdowns" (i.e Motochika's Anegawa or Motonari's Yamazaki) in free mode?

If you can, I have no idea how you'd unlock them for free mode use. On the other hand, you now have a reason to use story mode after you've beaten the character's story.

Wasn't that already true for the Samurai series. Access any story for unique missions/ weapons etc?

But I would like it if they came up with a different shape for forts than square- maybe curved walls, built into mountains that kind of stuff, maybe even on a diaganol.

Something i have found out is that the theme song Zan, by Gackt is a special BGM in SW3... it may be appearing in the EU version as well... I can't remember how you play it... SOmething to do with Finishing Kenshin's story I believe.

BTW, what do you guys think of the EU Box Art? (Now up on KW's main site...)

I think it is a little bit boring with just Sanada and Kaihime in their typical poses. But it is just box - I hardly care for it's design. I'd rather have a good game than a nice box (which will end in a cupbouard or on a shelf anyway).

It's in the OST, it does play in stages in the Japanese version. Whether it will play in the European or US depends on Nintendo now I guess:

Don’t hang on to this because this might not be true but I remember reading that you can play all the stages that the story modes characters can but only on the side that a story mode character was in..

I think the main problem is we have the sw1 issue again.. If you play in a stage that has a character in that you didn’t play on in the story, there will be 2 of the same character..

Think of it like.. On sw2xl you can play as toshiie on the oda side of the saika stage.. but when you do, there are 2 of you.

So this means you won't be able to play on the Imagawa side at Okehazama, Shibata at Shizugatake, Eastern army at Fushimi castle and Kuzegawa...Kinda disappointing.

And the "2 of the same character" thing is kinda annoying too. It even occured at few stages in SW2XL (i.e Katsuie at Osaka bay but not at Nagashino because he has it in his story).

As far as the EU box design goes, it's okay. It's similar to the original Japanese I think, and really, were we expecting anything less than Yukimura?

It happens. The US box art for SW2 has Kotaro on it.
