Can someone point out where the word "rice" is actually shown in a screenshot? All I see is the Ina shot which says 100t. which would be tonnes, a unit of measurement. I realize that it is implying tonnes of rice, but if none of the screens are actually saying the word "rice" then what does anyone care? If you want to pretend it's tonnes of gold coins, feel free to live in whatever delusions you so choose.

Look the left of the image of the 'currency'. Pretty clear cut there.

I have a suspicion that maybe this is catering more toward the (fan)girls.

O.o I'd rather have said fanboys, since I prefer listening to Nobunaga's and Kanbei's deep, rich and sexy voices over hers...
I don't see why. While I can't speak for anyone, it's been my observation that fanboys don't really go for their guys singing.

About the image songs...

I adore Hanbei and Kanbei's. The pitches of their voices singing together... haha, I love it. xD It's my favorite track out of all of them, with Masamune and Motochika in close second. I've been listening to them all day today. The Nagamasa and Oichi one isn't that bad, though I wish they made one with Nene or Magoichi. That would have been funny. xP

I hope the CD arrives soon. If a tech savvy person wants to let me know how to properly 'distribute' them for the forum, I am more than willing to contribute once it comes in (assuming someone hasn't ripped them yet XD).

I like all of them, but I would have loved more females songs as well. Oichi is fine, but a song for Ina, Nene, or even freakin' Kaihime (covergirl duh) would have been excellent. Maybe if they do a second volume (not holding my breath) it can feature Hideyoshi singing with Nene and Kaihime (even though I'm aware the game doesn't acknowledge their relationship...) It'd be like Tenchi Muyo...

He means the album as a whole, not the Oichi+Nagamasa song.

And I agree with him. The style of music also is what I would expect catering to the fangirls.

^ Ah, okay, I thought it was only refering to the Oichi-Nagamasa one.

Hmm... Since it's focused on the fangirls, can we use this as estimate, that there are now more SW-fangirls than boys? :3
Not that I particulary care about the gender of the fans, but I find it a bit amusing...

Then again looking at a certain addition (Muneshige) I think they've been focusing on drawing even more girls to games due to playing games.

I'll see if I shall buy the CD. If someone will translate the meaning to me, perhaps. I understand some parts, but to little to make sense of it, aside from the fact that Hanbei and Kanbei are sometimes adding to each others sentences?

Only a bit less than a month, then finally... SW3 WILL BE MINE! *o*

Hey guys I was just wondering when you first get the game, who are the characters that you start off with? :3
I can't wait to get this and play as kunoichi! Im looking forward to seeing the dlc for the CAW also. The few CAW options seen in preview videos are the only options we get to start off with?
&& finally I was wondering how do we get the Rice/Gold/W.E it is to buy the characters? :P

Nintendo Official Magazine have released their Samurai Warriors 3 Review

It got 61% <_< <_<

+Easy to pick up ^_^
+Great anger therapy :)
+Good multiplayer
-Repatative fast
-Dodgy story :realangry:

I think its fair to say that it can get repetative, buts that the fun of it. In Mario, you just jump around on things time and time again, which makes it fun. In MW2, you do endless gunfights, which makes it fun. And the Warriors series, you disembowl enemies with awesome weapons, which makes it fun.

I suppose Nintendo Offical Magazine just aren't familliar with hack and slash games. :P :P

As for the story point, thats a bit naff as well. Most Warriors games have good (if ocassionly generic) storylines for each character. Talking about storyline, Nintendo have pulled off some dodgy ones like Super Mario Galaxy's ending, and stuff like that.

They praised the game for its grand spectacle and execution, but said the ideas were lacking.

Well since Nintendo Official Magazine are obsessed with the big treasure troves, they miss out the hidden gems, which us, people who have more time to play on the game, can find, and make our own decision. :)

See ya later

P.S They said Muneshige was the Gillet poster boy

Repetitiveness is one of the most pathetic excuses nowadays because long-running franchises will ALWAYS be repetitive. The excuse just doesn't hold water anymore.

For the dodgy story, that could be a legit complaint. It's possible that part of the reason they changed up the stories so much in SW3 is to appeal more to the players of SW2/XL, you know, the ones that are familiar with the established stories there. So the change in storyline may be a bit confusing to other players.

But really what's so dodgy about a story that has someone as famous as Oda Nobunaga in it?

So if it's a 61% out of 100%, well it could be worse. At least it passed assuming 50% is the "Just OK" mark.

With the 61%, I wasn't jumping for joy, but its over half, so thats cool with me.

NOM    said that perhaps there should be an English Civil War game, then maybe it would sell better.

One thing that made me laugh was that apperently in Japan, the Warriors series is more popular than breathing

Not many critics seem to enjoy Koei games very much. But hey, I've interpreted anything "Passing" a good review for a Koei game. Plus the positives they mention are what really draw me to the Warriors games to begin with, so overall I'm not upset or disappointed with that review.

It's been a long time since I saw the initial roster, but I'll try remembering it. Wait, just remembered that I have the manual here...

Yukimura
Nobunaga
Kenshin
Oichi
Hanzou
Ginchiyo
Kanetsugu
Kiyomasa
Kaihime
Hanbei

Hm, I don't remember having 10 characters right off the bat. Still, it has been a while so I'm inclined to believe the manual's picture, haha.

Oh yeah, and you get koku automatically after any stage you complete. A measly 5 on normal in Free Mode and 10 per stage in Story Mode, which increase as you play harder difficulties. Some side missions in the stages give you some koku as well. Clearing a Story Mode will give you 100.

I can't say anything on the Story comment but the other points of the review are very much accurate. Reviewers always seem to point out if something quickly falls into repetition, when someone could easily counter that at their core every game is repetitive. They mean to say that these games lack enough substance in their combat. There are plenty of other games with more engaging combat systems than the Musou titles, given how many iterations there have been by now. If directly after Dynasty 3 the system had just jumped to what it is now in Samurai 3, reviewers wouldn't have much of anything bad to say. Koei's been that slow in upgrading and improving the gameplay, and to be fair to them, they haven't really needed to since the games have done exceedingly well in their main market out east. Like the review points out, Koei has good ideas and there's lots of potential in the world they've come up with, but they just don't do enough with it.

The other main draw of the series, its historical background, is pretty much lost over here in the west. Without that behind it, the games are left to rely solely on their combat to win people over... and let's face it, it's not as great as it should be by now. It's remained good, decent, solid, but it's not at a point where it could be called great. It's fun, but it doesn't contain enough to entertain most people for that long. I can play the game just fine, but I wouldn't dream of watching someone else play it.

A lot of western reviewers might be too harsh on the series, but they're not completely wrong either.

Hilariously, a Civil War game probably would do better over here. The history wouldn't just fly over most people's heads. :D

Ah awesome, thanks! :3
I think i will play Oichi first!

I ordered a Wii controller pro for playing this game, as I thought it would be the most familiar to me since i'm used to using playstation or xbox controllers. I hope that the basic buttons are all in the same places as for sw1/2 with the ps2. :]

Okay, I've pre-ordered this game from GAME and I've got a few questions for those who have the Japanese copy. (Sorry if these have been answered but I don't feel like checking through 181 pages >.<)

1. Is the lower framerate really noticeable?

2. I've been hearing that many maps are cloned, how many are "unqiue"?

3. How long (for a average gamer) could it take to beat 1 story mode?

4. Is Murasame mode any fun? Is it easy or hard?

5. Do the FMO characters have ANY special quotes? (Like SW2/SW2XL Okuni and such had some)

6. Is the story upto standard? (IE, Can you compare it to SW1 and understand whats going on?)

7. And finally, would you recommend this game?

Sorry for the longish list and thanks in advance!

I'll answer the ones I know the most about.

1. Yeah, you'll notice it for sure. Whether it will keep you from wanting to play, I really doubt it. It hasn't stopped me, and I've put plenty of hours into the game.

2. I haven't been keeping track honestly.

3. As long as previous versions took. If an average gamer grasps the controls quickly then it should only take a couple of hours, maybe 3. That's assuming they just jump into a story on normal difficulty.

4. I found it a blast to play. For once I... actually had to think about what I was doing. I had to use my head for something other than combat in a Musou game, HYES!.

It starts off being really easy, depending on if your character is leveled up to around 20 when you start it. There's 5 sets of stages you have to clear and around the end of the 3rd set, it starts getting harder. The 5th set will frustrate you if you don't catch on to the gimmick of the stage quick, and the escort missions will be what they've always been, a royal pain. There's only a handful of those though, thankfully.

Takamaru has 3 missions that are unique to him that are actually decently hard. These will frustrate you, so abuse everything he has.

Oh, and get used to dealing with archers that shoot out lightning balls. You can hit them to send them back at the enemies but if you don't, you'll find your lifebar getting raped. Unless you insist on doing it as a favorite character or something, save yourself some grief and pick someone with range. Or just take Nobunaga and Kiyomasa through, they take everything down.

5. Not sure.

6. I'll let someone who knows the stories better answer this for you. They're similar in nature though.

7. Yeah, try it out. Samurai 1 still has some perks over this game but it destroys Samurai 2. Just adapt to using Eigi in your gameplay, haha.

The image song CD game in yesterday and I finally got around to dusting off an old CD Player to listen to it (my computer is still out of commission and the PC I use aren't great to music). Here are my thoughts on all of them.

1. Meikyoushisui -mononofu Ga Michi- (Serene ~Way of Samurai~) [Sanada Yukimura] - The song itself is nice, but Yukimura sounds a little drunk.
2. Michi.wakatsutomo (Separated Ways) [Ishida Mitsunari & Katou Kiyomasa] - The beat is nice, and I adore Kiyomasa's voice. Mitsunari is good too.
3. Tokoshie Ni Saku Hana (A Flower That Blooms Eternally) [ Oichi & Azai Nagamasa ] - Not sure what I think of it... it's okay, but probably one of my least favorites on the disc.
4. Amakakeru Ryuu No Gotoku (Like a Dragon That Soar to The Heaven) [Date Masamune] - My second favorite track, because of the tempo and it being Masamune's.
5. Kaze To Kumo No Okite (Law of the Wind & Clouds) [Takenaka Hanbei & Kuroda Kanbei] - Hanbei sounds great... Kanbei weirds me out. It reminds me of Saisaishi's and Argon(Argo?)'s image song in G-Gundam.
6. Ichibousenri No Kaze (Boundless Wind) [Muneshige Tachibana] - It was alright... I wonder why he gets to sing and not his obviously superior in every way, shape or form, wife? She's too good for singing, me thinks. Still, lovely voice.
7. Sou -aragai Sourou- (Follow ~Provoke the Season~) [Chosokabe Motochika] - I love the music more than the singing, but it's still good. I'd kill to have an instrumental of this song.
8. Taigatoutou (River Of Conversation) [Mouri Motonari] - The only slow paced song on the CD, and it's not too shabby.
9. Aogite Ten Ni Hajizu (Looking Up Without Feeling Ashamed Towards The Sky) [Sanada Yukimura, Ishida Mitsunari & Naoe Kanetsugu] - Nice trio. Again, Yuki sounds drunk, but Mitsunari and Kanetsugu sound really great.
10. Kiwami -karetsu Gojuu Nen- (Extremely ~Severe 50 Years~) [Oda Nobunaga] - My favorite in the track... because Nobunaga is so god damn tantalizing... his voice almost made me ... uh... have a happy in my pants. This VA needs an entire CD dedicated to him.

Amazon UK has samurai warriors 3 up now for £39.99

@ Fuurinkazen: Not sure what you mean but the Wii isn't a HD console so you can't hook it up to a HD TV through a HDMI cable, but you can still play the Wii on a HD TV using other types of compatible cables. So you are still able to play SW3 on a HD TV. :)
