I never noticed a Takeda Shingen topic, so I've created one.

What are your thoughts on the man who deposed his father, fought the great Uesugi Kenshin, and eventually perished of illness?

Well I pretty much agree of Shingen's actions against his father. If his father stayed leader it would probably be the demise of the Takeda. In my opinion Shingen was one of the best strategists during the sengoku era.

I'm am currently writing a bio about Shingen and will post it here when it finished :D

How? Nobutora, despite his arseholery was a great warrior in general and not a bad commander.

Back on topic... Wasn't the Takeda of Kai related to another Takeda clan around the Aki Province area?

I love Takeda Shingen. He's my favorite warlord of the Sengoku Era. He was very cunning; very deserving of the name "Tiger of Kai." And yes, I have to agree that slaying his own father was to save the clan. His younger brother was supposed to become heir instead of him, right? I hope it wasn't out of anger. A lot of sources I've read say that he and his father didn't really see eye-to-eye.

Anyway, he remains my favorite warlord and strategist in all of the Sengoku Era. No question about it. If there are any books exclusively about him, I would love to find them!

He didn't actually killed his father. Just denied him entering Kai after he came back from Suruga. I think Yoshimoto also had something to do with it.

I honestly think that Nobutora's cruelty towards many people had its effect on Shingen. Well, at least he didn't whack him (talking about you, Saito!)

For books, I recommend the Saga of the Samurai series, Kawanakajima by Stephen Turnbull. There's also the novel Furin Kazan.

Oh, that's right. Yeah, he didn't kill his father, just banished him. That's what I get for reading different resources that say different things.

And I agree, I don't think anyone who is sane enough could put up with that kind of treatment, especially from their own father.

And cool, thanks for the recommendations! I'll keep an eye out for those! :)
