I know it may be a hard theme, but, he/she who wants, discuss about Hipocrisy here My opinion is short and simple: All humans are hypocrites, doesn't matter the name given |

Could you elaborate on why you think that? It is kinda hard to begin a debate when the opinion is so flat. My opinion is yes..people can be hypocrites. However, most people tend to do it in a joking matter. Only when the situation is serious (Sexuality, Racism and etc) does the problem escalate. Edited by KiniroCorda, Thu Jun 10, 2010 3:59 am.

My base, as you all know, is my own country. I'll tell you why: There are people here who say: " Oh, everyone is equal to the other, so, let's help the others" I say: Hipocrisy! Short and Simple: First, nobody is equal to nobody, no matter if you test IQ, strength, feelings, anything at all. So, I believe all people who ever said it( even I myself) are hypocrites There are those who say:"Ohhh, Hitler was a monster!! Getulio Vargas is a true hero!" This ones I prefer to call dumb and hypocrites Why: Uhhh, well, Getulio Vargas was a president of Brazil, maybe the most famous, followed by JK. There is a university here named after him. When the WW2 began, he outright favored Germany, and, his 15-year dictature( note that this is different from 25-year regime I always mention), called New State by most historians, point out that he had nazist practices, like sending the wife of a comunist leader, Luís Carlos Prestes, to Germany to be executed, and his control of the press. But, he allied with the USA Now, tell me. Where is this guy a hero? Yeah, he did commit suicide to keep the Military out of the government, but he knew a coup d'etat was very near( I admire him by his intellect, not by his actions) So, to this fools, I say: Hipocrisy! This nearly takes all of our population This, clearly, is based on my country, but I know some arguments to prove everybody is an hypocrite |

You can't live without hypocrisy, tbh. We all have to be hypocrites sometimes. For example, going to your cousin's wedding. If she's obviously fat, you can't tell her that she's fat in her wedding dress. You're socially obliged to tell her she looks pretty in it even when it's not; ugly is ugly lol. You can't really tell the ugly truth to your friends (maybe except your best friend) unless you want to be hated for it. Hypocrisy yet again. In the presence of authority (people who can give you trouble just because, e.g. the cops, your boss, your in-laws XD), you tend to suck up to them or at least don't piss them off even if you're unhappy with them, unless you're in power. There we go, we become hypocrites once again. In public, when a reporter approaches you to ask your opinion on social issues, you'll also be obliged to answer in a way that makes everyone happy (or being politically correct). Not doing so will end you up being flamed by others or worse, end you up in jail for sedition (my country is famous for this... oops, I might get into trouble for even saying this). In relationship area, sometimes girls/guys say they love you for who you are, but the truth is, they love you for your fame/money/whatever. Of course, not all are like that, but it happens. It happened to me once. Maybe you do that too! Lol. Only when you get into trouble that you'll start to see the true faces of everyone around you, and that'll be the time you realize everyone's been playing the hypocrisy game. In politics, I seldom see anyone who really stand up for the citizens as a whole. Living in a multiracial country, all I see are racist politicians who sing about better life for everyone and laud equality between races, when all they do is making the racial barriers even stronger through their so-called unity policies. And they all seem to be more interested in their own gains than their duties. In religions, we are rather generic as well, talking about respecting others' religions and accepting our differences, yet at the same time, deep within the back of our minds, some are angry at others and some could be closet fanatics and haters. Heck, I believe most of us here think others' religions are wrong while our own is right; we just don't say it out loud because that's not a right thing to do. (I don't personally hate others' religion, for the record. Lol.) In other miscellaneous situations, you can't really tell the guy sitting next to you being smelly unless you're prepared for a fight. Or when the guy is an asshole, you're still treating him nicely because you don't wanna get into trouble. If you're in service field like being a waiter, salesman, etc, you also have no choice but to keep smiling at the worst customers unless you want to get fired. Edit: It crossed my mind just now so I'll add another fine example: When someone killed himself, everyone who knows him will start to tell each other, 'Oh, he's such a cheerful guy; why would he do such a thing?' or 'He could have come to us to talk. We would have helped!' or 'If only I was there for him when he needs it most.' This is another hypocrisy, because when he was still around, nobody cared. When he did go to others to talk, what did others tell him? Busy, talk later, hey I just got a new car, blablabla about themselves instead, oh you'll get over it, there's rainbow at the end, there's light at the end of the tunnel, etc. It's just sad.. We are hypocrites and so are they. Everything is hypocrisy. It's already become a part of our life and a necessity. Accept and live with it. Living true to yourself? That's a joke, my friend.Maybe I'm a misanthrope. ![]() Note: 'You' is general, and not directed at anyone in this post. It's just meant for expression.

Yeah, I understand, and I fully agree But, what people don't understand is that there is a difference between pointing out Hipocrisy and condemning it. As you said, we need hipocrisy Also, people are hypocrites while saying hipocrisy is wrong. Cool, huh? |

All humans have the potential to be hypocrites, almost all modern day people are. In the past, and a few in the present such as infants and the few pious are not. Unless you believe a baby just born is a hypocrite then one must recognize that all people are not hypocrites. 99.99% of the population, or rather no matter how high you bring that number up it will still never be 100% and that means not all humans are hypocrites. |

First of all, hypocrisy is not right. Neither was it, nor will it be right. Furthermore, I think your generalization is wrong. Not everyone is a hypocrite. Just because there is hypocrisy in this world does not make everyone a hypocrite. And especially does not make hypocrisy acceptable or right. To claim everyone would be a hypocrite is next to an insult for those who are not. |

I am a hypocrite. What I mean is that what I find annoying and moan at people for, I end up finding myself doing the same thing xD Also, I become irritaed really easily when my mates trick me and pull pranks on me yet I'm always pulling pranks and intentionally annoying them just for the fun of it xD But we all are, some people are hypcrites for small things yet a few are for bigger and worse things. |

Question is: Did I say in any moment that Hipocrisy was right? I just didn't say it was wrong. There is a great road between saying something's not wrong and saying something is right Also, tell me: Are you true all the time? Sometimes, you have to adulate people when you don't want to. I consider everyone as a hypocrite, but I don't say it's wrong, because we need hipocrisy. We need to stay alive, and for that end, we must be hypocrites sometimes |

You're right about the generalization. Yes, not everyone literally (of course with the exceptions of infants, mentally ill people, etc who do not function in the society actively... duh XD). However, I respect your notion that hypocrisy is not right as everyone's entitled to his/her opinion. I won't be judging by saying you're wrong or right either for the same reason. To me, hypocrisy is the way to live. Not right morally, but right societally. At one point or another, you will HAVE to suppress your heart/conscience to please others, whether it's your parents, teachers, friends, clients, etc. That would depend on your definition of hypocrisy, though; if you're trying to say that you've never been a hypocrite, I really doubt that. ![]() No hard feelings, yeah?

I was referring to the quotation of Saint I used in my post: But it was you who said: So, I am a hypocrite, because I believe and say it is wrong!? I can't follow that logic... Also adulation cannot just be seen as an equivalent of hypocrisy. Especially if it is only done sometimes as you wrote. Adulation must not even be a lie. It can also just be a small exaggeration. Just because I do not tell everyone directly what I am thinking does not make me a hypocrite. Following the defifiition of a well known online encyclopedia Hypocrisy is the act of persistently professing beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities, or standards that are inconsistent with one's actions. Anything that is done or said 'sometimes' is not an act of hypocrisy. You have to act persistently in a way inconsistant with your actions and believes to be a hypocrite. And again not telling everyone directly what you think and believe is not an act of hypocrisy. |

If you want to be semantic, then the word 'persistent' in your quoted definition from Wikipedia baffles me, because that would mean nobody (well, almost, if not all) is a hypocrite. This one's from 1. http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=hypocrite Hypocrite: a person who professes beliefs and opinions that he or she does not hold in order to conceal his or her real feelings or motives This one takes out 'persistent'. 2. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Hypocrites Hypocrite: a person who pretends to be what he is not This too. 3. http://www.yourdictionary.com/hypocrite Hypocrite: a person who pretends to be what he or she is not; one who pretends to be better than is really so, or to be pious, virtuous, etc. without really being so This too. 4. http://www.merriam-webster.com/netdict/hypocrite Hypocrite: 1 : a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion 2 : a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings This too. Anyway, let's post the larger picture of that Wikipedia explanation:
^
If you've been one, then yes. ![]()
I never said it was. If you lie about things that you know isn't true just to please others, then yes it is. If the guy sitting next to you is obnoxious and you act normal when you don't feel normal to avoid unpleasant situation, then it's still hypocrisy as well. Anyway, I hope you don't get emotional over this, because we're simply putting out our points to support what we believe in. If you insist you're NOT a hypocrite in ANY way, I'm cool with that, really. I won't call you being wrong, as pointing fingers calling people out is not very constructive imo. I hope you're not offended in any way.Wikipedia isn't always right and not 100% reliable, btw. It may be well known, but not necessarily accurate as it can be vandalised. Just to complement what Saint said: You can discuss or argue about any of the hipocrisy ideas here. But you cannot force people to believe in your beliefs. That's antiethic and wrong And, scholar is right. Babies can't be hypocrites, but I talk about conscious people And, by a strange logic, babies can be hypocrites |
