Favorite... its hard to say. To me KOEI does a terrible job at storytelling and character personalities, SW1 and DW4 were alright. But I guess I'll say either SW1 Keiji or Magoichi, mainly for the levels.

Least fav... SW2 Nagamasa and Oichi. Its downright disturbing to see two people wallow deeply in their emotions in a game where you slaughter hundreds of enemies (luckly there's no blood and gore). Backing up my reason about koei's bad storytelling.

I don't own SW1 so I'm a poor judge on whos was best seeing as I only played one story mode.

SW1XL: Yoshimoto's, I loved the creatively unrealistic story and especially the option you could choose the takeda or the uesugi.

Worst: None of the other 3 were that bad, but I'd probably say Ina's of the 3.

SW2: Kotaro's was pretty fun I'll admit, a lot of chaos and more unrealistic but ingenious battles.

Worst: I really didn't like Nene's, it had a bunch of boring stages.

SW2XL: Toshiie's I'd have to say, it was pretty good.

Worst: Gracia's without a doubt, she had my least favorite story mode out of all the games.

My favourite Musou Mode will be Magoichi Saika's SW2.

It's fun I guess and I love all his cutscenes. His MM shows his friendship with Hideyoshi and his hatred for Nobunaga. I don't really know how to explain. I cried when I watched his ending for the first time.....

2nd favourite will be Kunoichi's SW1. Her comments are always really funny and the way Yukimura and her get along makes everything more interesting. I like both of her endings.

Least Favourite: Nagamasa Azai's SW2. One word --- STUPID.
2nd Least Favourite: Oichi's SW2. The same word.

Just gonna list favorites for the first two games.

SW1:

1. Yukimura
2. Tadakatsu, both branches
3. Hanzou
4. Magoichi

SM2:

1. Magoichi
2. Mitsuhide
3. Nagamasa (I dunno, I liked it...)
4. Toshiie

And after having finally beat all of the stories in 3:

1. Muneshige- Brilliantly done. Muneshige is the man.
2. Ginchiyo - Again, brilliantly done. Her ending was probably my favorite.
3. Kiyomasa- Love his portrayal and his conviction.
4. Yukimura- They ditched that stupid thing they had going on in 2 with him, and gave him his Final Charge ending again. SW1's was still better, though. He's also much more enjoyable personality-wise in this game.
5. Tadakatsu- So much better than that joke we got in 2. His ending could've been better, but overall it was really good.
6. Kaihime- I dunno, for some reason hers was fun to play. Maybe it's just because she's one of the only female characters in the game that I like, but, still It was fun and she had a nice ending.

Now for least favorite SM3 ones:

1. Magoichi- Went from amazing stories in the first 2 games to...just crap. KOEI needs to drop the Date angle in 4, or at least do something to make it more than just Mago doing nothing but following Masamune.
2. Motochika- Words cant even describe how much of a joke his ending was. And his story as a whole? No thanks, KOEI. Don't let his character become anymore of blatant fanservice in the next game, please.

I agree with King Of Wei Hanzo's SW2 story was crap I prefer his story in SW1.
My most favorite Musou mode was Toshiie's in SW2XL and Yukimura's musou mode in SW1.
My least favorite were was Kotaro's. Fuma betraying the Hojo?? Interfering in other clans battles?? Too bad Koei couldn't arrange that in SW3 although he is sometimes seen alongside Ujiyasu but still interfering in other battles.

Yoshimoto doesn't also have a story mode, and it's silly to say that his plot ends when SW plot starts because there are lots of battle taking place before Okehazama in SW3.

My favorite Musou Mode was Nouhime's and Yukimura's in SW1. I loved the emotion behind Nouhime's story, and Yukimura's SW1 UP ending is made of win.

My least favorite would be Yoshimoto's in SW2XL. I just hate how they gave one of the (possibly) most powerful warriors in the Sengoku era a completely fictional (not to mention joke) Musou Mode. I enjoyed the entertainment, don't get me wrong, but still. I would have liked to see more battles that he was actually in (this was before SW3 was released).

Title. :D

Don't know if there is already a topic like this though.

My favourite is Magoichi Saika, to me the best story of the game, really well done.

The worst? Tadakatsu Honda, Koei could have done so much more with his character, i mean he's pretty much the strongest character in the game! All he does is fight alongside Iyasu. His wife was never mentioned too, he probably likes his spear more. :/

Hm, here are some of my favorites.

SW1

Yukimura's. Everything up to the ultimate ending was epic. The Osaka stage was wonderful. It really gave a feeling of helplessness.

Kunoichi's. I liked hers because there's some pretty funny dialogue in some of her stages. And I like how it seems that she's grown more mature by the time the Osaka or Odawara Infiltration stage comes in. She's become more of a bodyguard rather than a supposedly annoying little girl by that point.

Noh's. Hers is another story that leads to one of the best endings in the game. She had so much more of a personality in this game and her stages were all filled with emotion.

I can't think of any least favorites, so I'll move onto SW2.

Magoichi's. His has so much emotion and we were shown a softer side of Magoichi. His cutscenes in this game are easily some of the best SW cutscenes I've ever seen. And I especially love the Escape from Honnoji stage. No map + Chaos + Evil laughing Kotaro= Awesome.

Some that I don't like include Ina's, Noh's, and Hanzo's. Their's were all way too boring for my liking. The only enjoyable parts were their dream stages.

Oh, and I'd like to make a note on Gracia's story. Her story in SW2XL was by no means one of my favorites. However, I feel like KOEI could have done a lot better with her. If they actually tried, she could have easily had one of the best stories in the entire game.

SW1 + XL - Faveourites

-Oichi, purely because of her bubbly personality, she was torn between her love and her brother yet she envisioned a world where they can live together...

-Okuni, not much I can say but her several multiple endings made me instantly like it.

-Ranmaru, Although very young, he was loyal to his lord and was prepared to sacrifice his life for him, (plus its the only story he received in the series =( )

-Noh, brilliant, just brilliant, Adding Dosan Saito(I think?) gave it a interesting twist and her story was much more complex and interesting than her SW2 one.

-Kunoichi, her dialogue just makes me lol, thats all I can say really.

-Hideyoshi, one night castle, and the dance, do I need to go on? xP

-Mitsuhide, at first his story seemed generic but during Honnouji, he was SERIOUS and his seriousness made you think "oh crap!"

-Least Faveourite

-Ina, whilst I don't hate it, her story just revolved around her father too much ... Ina! Ina!

-Goemon, its a shame he was cut since I like the character, but did he really need that many castle stages?

-Yoshimoto, nobody wants to play Kemari!

SW2 + XL Faveourite

-Kotaro, Chaos, Destruction what more could you ask for?

-Mitsuhide, its okay, not as good as his SW1 version though.

-Musashi, although I dislike the character, his story was probably one of the best in SW2.

-Kojiro, just like Musashi, except I like this character. :P

-Gracia, not the best but its average, this character had potential.

Least Faveourite

Everyone else... :argh:

SW3 Faveourites

I won't explain why incase of unintentional spoilers so I'll just list them.

-Kanetsugu

-Ginchiyo

-Ujiyasu

-Kanbei

-Hanbei

-Mitsunari

-Oichi

-Kai

-Kunoichi

-Ieyasu

-Hanzo

Least Faveourite

-Muneshige

-Nagamasa

-Yoshihiro

SW1:

Favorites:

- Hanzo. I suppose its Dynasty Warriors experience talking, but doing the infiltration mission was completely different from what I was used to, and it took so long to get used to the idea. His objectives of taking alternate routes and attacking from behind, too, were different and memorable.

- Kunoichi. Similarly so above for Hanzo.

- Ina. Mostly I love her no-nonsense approach and how her diverging paths weren't so much altering the course of the war, but rather altering the course of her character growth so she ended up quite different on either path. It's one of those things I tend to like, such as with Last Blade with the Hibiki character where your action can alter the character. Oh, and as a note, I DID mess up Crossing Iga the first time through by going after Mitsuhide-- oops.

- Yoshimoto. I just love his Kenshin path and the ending is a parody of Kenshin's ending. It was just so funny.

- Kenshin and Shingen. I just love these guys and their interactions.

Least Favorties:

- Goemon, Okuni, Ranmaru, Magoichi. I really didn't go for the gameplay elements associated with their Musou stories. Heck, I hated Honnoji in the non-XL versions, especially the ones where you had to escort Nobunaga out of the temple.

SW2:

Favorites:

- Magoichi. Hands down, the most involved and fleshed-out story in the game, and one very unique level, even if it was annoying to navigate.

- Nagamasa. Mostly I went with the 'all a dream' premise and Kanegasaki where you think its all over, then you go an extra bonus round to beat the snot out of your worthless (former) ally. I keep replaying this level just for that reason.

- Kojiro. Even though I didn't care much for his obsession with Musashi, his was an interesting perspective for the Eastern Army faction, easily trumping the other Eastern Army stories that were incredibly pathetic in this game. It also, surprisingly, drew more attention to Masanobu Honda for me.

- Mitsuhide. This one actually surprised me since I was completely indifferent from his portrayal in the first game. Ultimately the plot twist where it was Magoichi who assassinated Nobunaga won me over, making it look like Hideyoshi was framing Mitsuhide by sending his own hitman. It ultimately changed the perspective of Yamazaki on its side, where it was actually Hideyoshi who was the villain even if nobody believed in Mitsuhide.

Least Favorites:

- No, Hanzo, Ina, Tadakatsu, Nene, Gracia, Motochika, Shingen... oh heck, I didn't like most of them. Yukimura's was also incredibly horrible as he acted like an unnecessary wheel most of the time.

SW1 + XL (Favorite):
~ Noh - Easily my favorite Story in the first installment of SW. Koei proved they could think outside of the "typical wife character" box. Noh's tale of feigning loyalty to her husband while combating the lingering influence of her father made for a great story. It was refreshingly dark and unorthodox, but what made it especially terrific was that Noh wasn't one-dimensional. She considered love, loyalty, betrayal, and desire.
~ Yukimura - This one captured the "spirit of the old vs spirit of the new" struggle perfectly. It started off simply enough, but once Shingen made his exit, things really picked up. Yukimura's struggle to uphold the warrior ideals he had honored since youth and keep the Takeda alive in a rapidly-changing Japan was brilliant, and as things became increasingly desperate for him, the more engaging the Story became, culminating in Yukimura's final stand and acceptance of an old warrior's fate.
~ Nobunaga - Whereas many of the Stories portrayed Nobunaga as the typical villain, battering his foes with ruthless determination, Nobunaga's own Story captured his "ends justify the means" mentality and painted him in a light which didn't scream "cookie-cutter bad guy". His rise to power came about because of his willingness to accept the burdens of pain and loss, and his showdown at Azuchi and ending served as an excellent resolution. It also showed that Nobunaga could and did feel sorrow, but that he accepted such a thing as the price of creating a new world.
Honorable Mentions: Kenshin, Magoichi, Hanzo

SW1 + XL (Least Favorite):
~ Oichi - It didn't portray Nobunaga as some cliched villain, true, but it still failed to hold my interest. I think my biggest problem was that Oichi vacillated between chipper and sorrowful too much, to the point where it felt forced and dull.
~ Shingen - I personally thought this was a rather dry Story, and though it certainly wasn't terrible, it ranks pretty low on the totem pole for me. Shingen's character development just seemed stale, and his clashes with Kenshin turned out to be less entertaining than they were from Kenshin's point of view.
~ Goemon - I had no problems with Goemon's character (for the most part), but his quest for the Plover Urn tale fell flat. None of his stages were particularly exciting to me, and he came across as too oafish at times.

SW2 + XL (Favorite):
~ Magoichi - This kind of "from laughter to tears" Story was along the lines of what Oichi's SW1 Story had tried and failed to do. Easily my favorite in SW2, Magoichi's Story suddenly gave him a lot more depth than before, and it really delved into his motivations and what he truly desired in his heart. I loved his post-Honnoji battle in the fog, which I thought was a great metaphor for his own disillusioned state following Nobunaga's death, and his reunion with Hideyoshi only opened up new layers to his character. Plus, the ending was a clincher.
~ Motochika - Motochika became one of my personal favorites because of his attitudes towards the change of time and the ebb and flow of power, but what really gave this Story flight was that it wasn't the typical "We are good. They are evil." routine. Ieyasu and the Eastern Army weren't portrayed as ruthless curs trying to bring the land under the iron fist of the Tokugawa, but as men who believed in ideals and wanted to bring those ideals to fruition in a land of peace and prosperity. Motochika gave Ieyasu the appreciation he deserved, but hadn't gotten in other Western stories.
~ Katsuie - This followed the same "old spirit vs new spirit" conflict from Yukimura's SW1 Story, and it met with the same favor. I loved that Katsuie was a man of tradition and honor, who valued his beliefs over his own life, how Hideyoshi was established as the innovator, and how Toshiie was trapped in the middle. Katsuie was the voice of the old ways under a leader who embodied change, and how he remained true to his beliefs to the very end. His acceptance of his fate and the future made for a stunning ending. Incidentally, Toshiie's Story also ranks highly in my books.
Honorable Mentions: Toshiie, Mitsuhide, Ieyasu

SW2 + XL (Least Favorite):
~ Noh - Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The unique self-confident viper from SW1 was tamed and gutted in SW2, and with this transition, Noh lost her very soul. Now as devoted and loyal a wife as any other such character, Noh existed simply to mimic Nobunaga and carry out his will. SW2 Noh was a shell of her former self, and no other Story comes close to this level of disappointment in my books.
~ Kotaro - I detest this one, too. It started out well enough, with Kotaro playing both sides against each other to prove how futile the efforts of the ambitious were, but it soon became clear that he was one-dimensional and that he had no desire to grow. Betrayal and destruction were merely forms of entertainment, and his decision to hand over everything to Ieyasu after terrorizing the land was a rather dull ending to a dull tale.
~ Nagamasa - Laughably bad, to be honest. Nagamasa had no direction as he worried about loyalty and Oichi's feelings. It was almost pathetic to see him stammer the same lines again and again, about how terribly Oichi must feel, how Oichi must be suffering inside, how terrible it was to be torn between two sides, etc. He really didn't grow as a character, and his virtue-love-honor routine was as cliched as they come. Plus, the whole "this Story was just an illusion up until now" revelation had me laughing.

SW1 --> I like Ranmaru. Only. In the beginning i tought it was the most difficult musou mode to beat (Because the incident in Honnoji). But after a couple hours of play, i really liked this.
SW2 --> I REALLY like Tadakatsu and Nobunaga. The first, because has the favorite stage, Seikigahara, and that's all. Nobunaga's because Honnoji and his dream.
SW2XL --> I like Toshiie and Motochika. Toshiie because he has Okehazama, and i like to play with him. Motochika is funny to kill enemies in all stages, i like when i can kill officers, enemies, units...

But the 3, only three i hate are:
SW1 --> Shingen. There's no reason, i just don't like it
SW2--> Oichi and Kotaro. Oichi because she has that stage in the village, i hate stages where you have to save the peasants... and Kotaro... Well Kotaro is Kotaro... He's a great Warrior but his history, is VERY boring and difficult (i can still lose in Defending Odawara :o

my personal favorites from SW would have to be Yukimura because he truly grows as the levels progress. He starts as a novice under Shingin to blooming under his own when he fights at Ueda.

i cant think of a least favorite since its been years since i played the first SW

My favorites from SW2 would b Kenshin's mostly because of the huge Dream stage and his ending video where the "Nemesis" becomes "Friend" and Shingin's cause of his wisecracks during tense and life threatening situations and Nagamasa's cause of the whole flip they do on the story at the end of his.

My least favorites would b the same as what most people hav listed; Hanzo, Noh, Oichi and so on.

Favorite:
SW1: Yukimura and Nobunaga's, I like how the story flaws, especially Osaka Castle for Yukimura and Azuchi Castle for Nobunaga

SW2: Still Nobunaga's, poor that Okehazama only available in SW2XL

SW2XL: Toshiie's. he respects Katsuie, and then he was separated with Katsuie and fight with Hideyoshi. In the end, he was forced to fight Katsuie, poor him :(

SW3: Kiyomasa's. He is really wants to protect his house, even tho he fought for the Eastern Army

Least:
SW1: Okuni's.. just why bother dancing in the middle of battle

SW2: Shingen and Kenshin's... idk how to explain just.. less creative

SW3: Muneshige's, yes, he's like the second Ginchiyo in his story
