ok, for my creative writing class we had to write a short story in only 500 words. for this assignment i chose to write a brief story involving Ina and her father Tadakatsu (her biological father not her adoptive father Ieayasu) well the premise was she was on a battlefield she got knocked from her Matsukaze while going across the field. she wakes up on the ground with an arrow in her armor, she goes about finding her bladed bow she has dropped in the attack and fall from the horse. she thinks back to what her father tells her on the eve of her first battle. she decides to keep fighting on to make him proud. and of course not far away Tadakatsu is standing watching all that has happened with Ina fighting the urge to run. either way that is the cliff notes version. i turned it in and needed to flesh it out some more. but a classmate as we were doing the class critiques, says i plagiarized the story and copied it from Samurai Warriors and or Koei. he obviously has played the games and says it was a carbon copy of the games when clearly it wasn't. the teacher liked it but said it needed more of a why she was fighting and more than her just running toward the castle to continue fighting. she said it was cliched but its ok i can fix that. the classmate even went so far as to write the critique out and say it was plagiarism. so my question is if i write a story off a historical figure, even if they are used in a video game, is that technically plagiarism? BTW: whats the proper way to place the names? Honda Tadakatsu or Tadakatsu Honda? as well is Ina supposed to be Inahime? any help answering these would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

- KOEI doesn't own history; you did nothing wrong. KOEI's story is based on historical figures, your's as well. And to add to that, you're story is nothing like KOEI's. - It's Honda Tadakatsu, not Tadakatsu Honda. KOEI just has this mistranslation in SW series and they refuse to fix it. Nobunaga's Ambition, another KOEI game, has the names order correct. It's the family name then the given name, just like the chinese one; Xiahou Dun not Dun Xiahou. Inahime = Ina-hime. I think hime is some title given to honorable ladies, I'm sure many had it. Lemme know if you need further help.. |

Plagiarism is when you take the work of others, claim it as your own and not give credit. For instance, taking a whole essay off the Internet and handing it in as your English essay would be plagiarism. You can't exactly claim history for yourself, so in this case it's not plagiarism. |
