Let's make a Phoenix Wright general topic here, people! ... In honor of the fact that Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton are getting a crossover game with each other, of course. Phoenix Wright vs. Professor Layton I would be remiss to leave out Gyakuten Kenji 2 / Ace Investigations 2, of course. Gyakuten Kenji 2

I made a Wright thread before, that one certainly didn't last long. I've played all the Wright games released so far and have all of them on my DS. And yes I'm incredibly psyched for the epic crossover of Layton VS Wright. |

DAMMIT! i clicked at phoenix too fast!,didnt see layton in the selection there>.< good things are to be expected in this game 1.phoenix is not a hobo(yet) 2.maya is here, that's always good 3.since layton is famous for its voiceovers that means we can finally hear the AA characters aside from phoenix speak too! 4.anime sequences FTW! the bad things 1.its on 3DS,which means one must buy a new handheld, just for this.....this is one of the reasons why i hate nintendo......too many new products with such short lifespan,i don't think 3DS will last longer than 2~3 years before they announced 7Qs(quadruple screen) 2.its will probably stay in japanese for a long time,i mean we havent even got layton 4 in english yet,and remember how long it took for layton 3 to get translated........... 3.there probably wont be more characters from AA aside from PW and maya, its okay for layton since he doesnt have much of a mainstay aside from luke and that princess girl that i forgot the name.............plus his evil nemesis, which i also forgot the name, but for the AA side this is a huge blow.... 4.no music from PW?the trailer seems layton~heavy but alas, the good >almost< outweights the bad, lets just see where this will go..... also, perhaps its just me but the animated phoenix seems like he could burst into yelling about "throwing weapons away" and long speeches about "bonds" at any moment there............

Ryugawa Iehodou? That's not a mental image I'll soon forget. The game certainly feels more Layton-focused overall, especially considering the way the aesthetic and atmosphere has been framed... But that might not be a bad thing. Half the fun of the Phoenix Wright games is seeing how Phoenix interacts with wacky new characters. Though, given said aesthetic... It makes me wonder whether Apollo and Trucy would've been better choices, though. Their association with the Gramaryes seems like it'd strike more of a chord with this crossover. I did a search and your topic was on there, Xalfrea. Imagine my sadness when I saw it was locked.

Question for those who know about Layton; does the guy have anything against ladders like Phoenix does? I know it's an ENG-only joke, but I wonder if that could get referenced somewhere. |

i don't think so,all 3 games that i play and nothing specific about ladders,he does give random puzzles about STAIRS to luke in some of the games if you clicked at one...but that's it(not ladders>.<),all layton is fond of is his top hat,his weird car,and puzzles(flirty girls are also included but he's not around them much..... )

A puzzle involving the difference between a ladder and a stepladder would be epic. As much as I'm looking forward to Layton VS Wright, it's still incoming and on an upcoming handheld. I'm getting my Ace Attorney fix in the meantime with Ace Attorney Investigations 2. |

court-records.net is your friend . AAI2 was announced way back, but that was quickly overshadowed for obvious reasons.

Oh man, Court-Records. I don't know why, but scrolling through their forum is really sluggish. Think my browser's not optimized for it or something, but I'm not an expert on that. In any case, it looks like they've even unveiled a new rival for Edgeworth. Gotta keep up with this... |

well,i know about GK2 for a while now,i thought it was pretty common new and still a bit far(since most people only play the western versions),and hence are rarely talked about, just knowing that it exists is already reassuring....... though speaking of edgeworth,i wonder in which timeline this one will happen?i was hoping for the 2nd one to be at AJ's timeline since we have no idea what edgeworth was doing at that time, plus its a good excuse to use a new judge since udgey needs to retire/hospitalized/whatever........ as for PW vs layton,i'm guessing lawyer work isn't limited to one country?this is the first time we see phoenix/iehodou overseas......... |

It definitely feels like it's post-PW3/pre-AJ again, since Edgey, Kay, and Gumshoe don't look like they've aged all that much. I would've liked a during-AJ game too, but they're just taking so long with getting back to that part of the timeline that I don't expect another game in the main AA series until 2012. A new Judge? I dunno how I'd feel about that, Udgey is perhaps more a staple of the franchise than any of the main characters. |

well,in AAI emma is in almost her AJ persona IIRC....(she was...bigger than in PW1 IIRC),and even if its not set in AJ's timeline i hope we will get more AJ cameos, like the gavins(and gavinners!) as for the new judge, remember that AAI is NOT a court game, this new judge is either just temporary/in another country/will most likely be the villain, wiki said she(?!) would be edgeworth's rival for AAI2 and i dont think it'll be the "good" rival, since we already have the epic lang zi filling that spot............and poor PW if he managed to squeeze a cameo this time Edited by wodash, Fri Nov 5, 2010 12:39 am.

Shu Takumi stated that he wants to end the timeline at AJ IIRC. I don't really mind TBH as long as there are more games to fill the gaps. I'm looking foward more to GK2 rather then Layton VS Wright right now TBH. Mostly because I still have a DS. |

Whaaaaaaa Wait a second. The rival is always (ultimately) a good guy, or at least a guy that does (something resembling) the right thing. Edgeworth, Lang, Fran, Klavier... Hell, even Godot. Would be interesting if they broke tradition, but if the judge lady (just looked her up) is the designated rival for this game, I don't expect her to be evil just because Lang's there. Hell, Edgey was present when Fran was the rival. Besides, who's to say Edgeworth doesn't deserve his own huge cast of supporting characters willing to back him... One which could be entirely separate from Phoenix's own massive, zany gallery? ... I also admit I don't want her to be evil because I like her design. ... I also further admit that I'm in the same boat as Xalfrea. Layton vs. Wright is taking a backseat because the 3DS is too damn expensive. Edited by LordKarasuman, Thu Nov 11, 2010 11:21 am.

This isn't going to be a 3DS launch title (as far as I'm aware off), and the DS fell in price rather quickly after it's initial release, so I presume when Layton vs Wright comes out, the 3DS will be (atleast slightly) cheaper. Regardless, I'm hyped for both games. Admittedly, I'm more hyped at Layton vs Wright, biased due to loving both franchises. Although it's not canon, d'you guys think that it might set a standard for future 3DS Ace Attorney games to follow? (i.e. Voice Acting and maybe even animated cutscenes?) |

Nah. This strikes me as being a one time thing not only because it's a crossover, but also because the environment looks like it's mostly slanted towards Layton's side of things. If anything, his games look more likely to do something like this more often. |

yep, although it can't hurt to wish>.< and i don't think we will see a new AA game anytime soon since edgey is taking his sweet time now with AAI which is easier to do since it doesnt need to continue the AA storyline and such has more probability for sequels compared to the already "finished" AA storyline arcs........ as for layton,i'm pretty sure they can do a lot aside from cramming minutes long anime cutscenes in their 3DS title, but games like latyon and AA/AAI doesnt needs high tech stuff to show that they're awesome. Indeed. If there's one thing this generation is far too big a fan of, it's making samey third-person action games that overuse orchestral soundtracks and QTE's. I'm fond of games like this for bucking the trend, even if they're only on handhelds. |
