My what if would be "If Sun Quan defeated Zhang Liao at He Fei?" Wei could of been dumbfounded and at the same time lose ground to Liu Bei.

Back on topic, hoping the second pv would show more gameplay and the new characters that are appearing.

Cao Ren is definitely underrated, in almost every incarnation I've seen. Not even going to mention his appearance and personality in Kouketsu Sangokushi... nice design, but Cao Ren? Seriously? What has this guy done to deserve such a rotten reputation that transcends media of today?

Koei is one of the few that do him justice, at times, anyway. Since DW6, though, I'm starting to think what little favor he has in their eyes has diminished. Sad, to see a good character overlooked.
I've been trying to figure that out myself. Some of his buffoon incidents in ROTK came from tales that preceded the novel. I'm guessing it's something like the flip side of Guan Yu's deification, except that I understand why Yu was revered and I don't see anything in the histories to support the notion of Cao Ren being an arrogant hothead. I've seen a hypothesis that his fictional defeats were originally supposed to be a compliment to the winner, which would have made sense when Ren's able record was well known. Over time, that knowledge vanished from the retellings and popular culture, and Ren came to be seen as a failure.

DW4/DW5 era Cao Ren is of course excellent. I liked what little I saw of him in Blade Sangokushi (needs moar scanlations), and he's not bad (though typically ROTK hotheaded) in what I've seen of Souten Kouro. The 2010 Three Kingdoms TV show tries to give him some credit while portraying the fictional defeats that ROTK fans expect to see. He gets owned at Xinye, but it's not shown as a shameful loss like it was in the novel. I saw a post-defeat flip-out that came off more like passionate self-disappointment than a cringeworthy tantrum. I'm looking forward to more subtitles so I can see what actually happens, and how well (or not) he comes across when he talks. I can say that he is burly and muscular and we get to see him shirtless. Now that's an attempt at audience respect that transcends language barriers. :2up:

Cao Ren gets a lot of crap in ROTK. They portray him as an aggressive, narrow-minded general. He's strong, and his defense is often praised, but he's kind of a jerk sometimes.

I want to see Xiahou Ba and Zhuge Dan mainly. Just to see how their personalities are in-game.
There most likely will be Lu Bu though.

My "what if" scenario:

What if Liu Bei actually took his large army and stomped a mudhole in Wu at Yi Ling? Would be interesting to see how WZP and beyond would've played out.

Ren is actually my favorite male on the Wei side. I love is personality and his reasons for fighting. I hope he gets a more exposure now. He deserves it.

I have another 'What If?' scenario.
What if Zhang Jiao had actually defeated the Han during the Yellow Turban Rebellion? What do you think would be different?

Zhang he is my favorite.
I'm not an avid Wei fan, I really don't like any Wei characters except for Zhang He.

I hope he is in the second PV. Being fabulous, with the also more fabulous Yuan Shao.
I hope we see game play of him with him releasing random butterflys.

Speaking of the second PV, I hope it gives equal focus to each kingdom this time. I can take every new character getting some focus over that though. Not just a passing gameply moment.

The remaining new characters yet to be show in the PV's are.
Shu/Wu/Wei's new characters.
And Zhuge Dan+Xiahou Ba.

I hope we get a taste of all of them.

I hope theres more gameplay featured in the second PV. It would be nice to see more maps and see if the A.I has improved. But what I really want to see is if Zhang He has indeed reverted to his personality in DW3. That and I wanna see the qiaos in their HD glory, and if they actually have any cutscenes AT ALL.

Edit: Oh and I also wanna see Ma Dai swing that paintbrush around hehe :P . Maybe a little demonstration of Kingdom and Chronicle modes would be nice as well. Sigh, so many things I want in that PV.....

they probably will, worshiping their husbands all the time or about how they want to fight too. Don't know, but that's what happened for the past games ^_^

DW6 Cao Ren is the 'sexiest' as he seems taller. lol

But he also looks like an angry mofo this time around.
Well, tall does not always equal sexy... besides, nothing wrong with a short guy. It'd be nice to have someone MY size for once (I'm barely 5' tall... it's hard to kiss my boyfriend when he's standing.)
That made me smile. :D My wife is much taller than I. We kind of make the Meng Huo and Zhu Rong thing. Me short and broad chested, she tall and strong. Maybe that is why those two are my favorite characters.

Is he trying to seduce me? Because it's working.

Didn't know he talked with Xu Huang. Cool, hope it gets expanded upon in the new game. That, among many other relationships: Cao Cao, Zhen Ji, Lu Meng (like you said), and Sima Yi. It is a shame that he is sometimes shafted because of his counterpart in the novel. In Dynasty Tactics 2, even Cai Mao has a better intelligence stat than Cao Ren.

I'm not sure whether KOEI will continue on making Ren less like he was pre-DW6, but I sincerely hope they don't. I flamed when I heard his quotes like, "Are you stupid?", or some kind of arrogant dump like that. Still, there was another redeeming moment in Cao Cao's cutscene before Shiting in DW6. It was touching. Personally I don't mind his new look though, despite its offputting proportions. Could've been worse.

Also, what did you mean by Lu Meng's political vision?

It's already worked on me.

Cao Ren and Sima Yi could have some interesting conversations, especially around the advent of Jin if Ren gets an expanded lifespan as some have suggested. I haven't even thought about how Sima Yi will be portrayed. I want to see more nuance to the takeover than he showed in DW6, perhaps driven by differences with Cao Pi's style of leadership - in other words, a simplification of the historical events between the Cao and Sima heirs.

It's true that Cao Ren could look worse. His new armor has distinctive motifs and nifty contours, and I would have wholeheartedly loved it if not for the gorilla pinhead effect. Personal distaste for the face remodel aside, my main complaint about Ren's DW7 look is the vast difference in his overall presence. Ren was memorable for appearing somber, sensitive, and kindly, and he's been reinvented into a scary hulking bruiser. It's possible that the writers will try to bring back his old personality, but he'll lack the iconic archetypal cohesion of classic Ren. I can and will nerd rage if he has any more stinker quotes like that awful DW6 true musou line.

By political vision, I mean that Lu Meng proposed the takeover of Jing under the rationale that Guan Yu would betray Wu first if given the chance to do so. I don't wish to open a historical can of worms on how justified this was - I only wanted to bring that up to show that they'd complement each other as a hypothetical Tag Team of Conquest. There's no record of Cao Ren making similar proposals of policy.

Wow. I admit I never played DW6 in English, but that has to be one of the most wooden, worst performances by Beau Billingslea I've heard.

You know, that's an interesting interpretation of Cao Ren that didn't really occur to me. Perhaps, like most people, I wasn't really impressed with the guy until his portrayal in Dynasty Warriors 4 and 5, where you could believe he was just that badass that the people who overcame him had to be just as badass.

His portrayal in RoTK wasn't all that flattering and his portrayal in Kessen II wasn't much better-- they did acknowledge he was great at defense, but his unit was thoroughly outclassed by nearly all the other Wei units, even if he did have Cheng Yu in his unit nearly all the time (even Yu Jin's unit was better than his).

I really think they should expand upon expertise a bit more, more specifically in cutscenes.

Some generals took control of cavalry others of infantrymen, I think this should play more in terms of unit placement, having cavalry come up against infantry would be an advantage but against pikemen, not so much. I may be a bit vague but was this a function in empires?! Choosing specific types of units to take into battle.

Cao Ren for example was supposedly excellent on horseback so he would serve better under that chain of command, bring a little more realism into the game. I hate seeing peon after peon, oh here is Zhang liao all by his lonely self waiting for me to find him on the map!

Thoughts?!

I would also love to get to simple Dynasty Warriors Seven to pass the time until I get the main course. If they could do that, then I wouldn't care if the game DID get delayed! :shifty:
