First of all, I support Joetri's idea. You see, if there are fewer playable characters, they have more time to focus on each one. If there will be individual stories ever again, it won't work with over 60 characters. Instead, I'd say about 4 characters from each kingdom. That would bring 16 in total (counting Jin). With only 16 stories, they can use their time to create very different stories for each character and possibly story branches. I found stories stories in DW5 VERY boring since it was just playing same stages over and over again with very little character development. They could totally revamp the combat system and ditch the old charge attack system. Create movesets like in SB3 which look WAY better than in any DW/SW game to date. I said it already and I'm gonna say it again: Quality owns quantity. Period. |

Damn...Look at all the rage going on in here! Utter chaos, I tell ya! But, I gotta say...Koei is KNOWN for having a huge cast of characters! And all of them have their own distinct personalities & quirks. Look what happened when people got nixed from DW6! There was an uproar! I mean, I swear the Qiao fans nearly went to war! |

I loved how long the Demo Conversation went on for... And were still on what if scenarios? Lol Don't know how many pages we can go on about that lol considering how long the Three Kingdom Period lasted thats a lot of 'What Ifs' Frankly I'm liking the regular story thanks, though I don't mind the occasional spices but as long as it doesn't go too overboard.(Lu Bu's story in 6, fighting the dead!? for real?) Anyway on the cutting like 75% of the roster? Why? I mean Sengoku Basara 3, don't get me wrong I enjoyed the game its just 16 Characters wasn't cutting it for me I wanted to be some the other characters shown(Which some had unique movesets so... why couldn't you be them?). Not to mention I like all of the additions and how long the character roster is in DW7 so far I mean damn this is going to make one hell of a story line if you have to play as all the characters in each of the four kingdoms story! Oh I see.. Well thanks. And I see ppl are talking about clones? o.o I never really minded clones in dw3-5 6 went a lil over board but.. they never annoyed me I still loved the game. I think DW7 is doing well.. And just a thought don't go all hating me.. >.> If you guys like Pang De and Zuo Ci alot just go play DW5 and problem solved o.o lol |

I've gone 100% on Dynasty Warriors 5. All of my characters are Max level, have their multiple weapons, I have all the precious items, and I've beaten every stage and musou level on Chaos. Playing Dynasty Warriors 5 would accomplish nothing. |

I've done the same except for beating the stories on Chaos... Holy Hell didn't know it could be done? And like my girlfriend is maxing out the last 5 characters I didn't. So yeah... Playing DW5 it was great but still... |

Well I'm just giving a thought ya know. I mean I think the cutting was a bad idea but we can't do anything about it. I never really played as Pang De but if theres this much "love" for him maybe Koei will see that and make it DLC? |

I think characters who were quite famous but only played a small significant role should be UNPC's (Im talking about the ones in one battle only). Take for example Yan Liang and Wen Chou. I'd like to see these two in the game but they're only significant in Si Shui Gate, Hu Lao Gate and Guan Du that well... they might as well be UNPC's. Anyone remember Yuan Shao's musou mode in DW5. It was horrible... same with Meng Huo's, Zhu Rong's <-- those two were the same. Kingdom mode fixes that problem but yeah... I can see some people's point of yay more characters but it'll get to the point where jeeze more characters... Look at Pokemon Yay more pokemon! Oh more pokemon xD. Ah some more new pokemon. More new pokemon?!? Oh ffs look at it it's a friggin Cadbury 99. CUT POKEMON. So yeah... maybe a few new characters but then just make them UNPC's. IMO SO DON'T MURDER ME (Yes I know can't compare DW to Pokemon but it was just an example to explain my point of view so before you bash me...) Besides.. it's gonna be a great game. Chill...

Yes it is a good thing Koei is redeeming themselves this time and providing a greater selection of characters for a bigger audience of different tastes and demand bigger diversity of playable character designs, returning favorites, new favorites, and weapons to mix and match, instead of listening to 'clone whiners', 'UNPC fools' and 'ROTK preachers' that don't know what's best for the series at all.

Actually, a character, who is degraded from UPC to NPC, IS a cut. Or in Pang De's and Zuo Ci's cases, whom even doesn't have that status anymore too, a NEUPC (NeverExistedUniquePlayableCharacter), at least in DW6.
Actually, IT IS up to you. You buy that game, and then you decide, which 30 characters you want to unlock .

Heh, not even Si Shui. Yuan Shao was upset because they weren't there to duel Hua Xiong. So really, they have even fewer stages. So you're right. UNPC for people like them, Hua Xiong, etc. is arguably the better way to go. However, we all know what Koei does with UNPCs. People complain they aren't playable and they are made playable later on. No... A cut is someone whos not in the game and doesnt have a role in the story. A Unpc is someone who has everything a playable character has, but is just not playable. Do you want me to point you to the Sw Npcs again.. orrrr?..

75 percent seems a bit too high though. I would go for 50 percent or in between the two for unpcs. True it would help with gameplay and story depth but would get rid of some angles of the whole thing. |

Well thank you for agreeing with my point. Secondly sorry I got si shui wrong xD. Thirdly yeah true people complain and so Koei make them Playable.. but from a business point of view thats the way Koei would go to drive DLC sales or Xtreme Legends sales ;). Still yeah Hua Xiong UNPC. Yan Liang, Wen Chou UNPC. I guess Yuan Shu could be made a playable unique character seeing as he has been in a few battles. But yeah I'd like to see UNPC's like Liu Yong, Liu Zhan, and all those NPC leaders in DW5 forgot names. UNPC is the way to go for expanded story! and then later make them UPC so Koei get their £££'s. That way the fans get what they want. Koei gets what they want. And the minority like me and you get what we want - for anything up to a year :/. Ahh well gotta think of the majority's needs I guess (Y). Anyway it's nice you agreed with my point of UNPC's. That im not alone. Thank you

UNPCS are still basically useless to the player. Stories are commonly only watched once, but replayable characters are far more valuable and give more reasons to play. Story can do so much to keep interest, usually after the first time, players really depend on the playable selection to keep things fun. And the less playable characters, the less fun. You might think a certain character is minor and useless in the story, but to someone else, they could be their favorites to use in the gameplay. the majority of people buy and keep playing these games for the gameplay first and the selection of characters. So if there are less characters and favorites to choose from, that means they will get bored faster. UNPCS are not going to add fun and more selection to the gameplay. I think I once said this before.....instead of TRULY unique NPCs, I think some of the more prolific generics should have some of the generic designs they don't use any more from past games as their design. That way they are still "unique" but pretty bland in the end...it serves enough purpose to denote them as slightly special. Remember the winged helm generic from 3, or the beefy guy with the hairbun from 5? Bring those back for Yan Liang and Wen Chou, as an example.... |

Man now you know good well that going from 60 to 16 would cause so many problems. Now see we need to understand that Koei made it to were they have no choice really, I mean they do they have a choice to make money or loose money, like they kind of tried your idea and Joetri's idea and I guess you both never saw the reactions to [most] people. Hell we got 62 in this new game 15 new characters and as you both should notice is that still people aren't satisfied, and some are not satisfied with them still leaving out 2(really one). They did your idea sort of with Dynasty Warriors 2. They sort of tried joetri's idea in DW 6 and DW 2 mainly DW 2 cause they had unpcs I believe. Actually Fuuma your idea would probably have to be another game or they would have to wait some years and just remake Dynasty Warriors sort of might even need a new name. I too would relegate a huge chunk of the characters to NPC status as well, however the big problem with doing so is thus: Koei has already set a precedent for having a very large cast of playable characters and very little in the form of unique NPCs. Since they've already built up an "expectation" among fans for more playable characters, making existing ones into NPCs would not be accepted even if in the end it is the better choice for the game's quality. Now, if starting from DW3 they added most of the new characters as NPCs(guys like Pang Tong, Huang Gai, and the Nanman) then this option would be more viable. SW series did this from the start, and look at how much better the story in those games are. While it's obviously not the only reason why those stories are better, it had to have contributed to some extent. |

Well I think you both have points here. The whole reason behind maxing people out really, is to use them as maxed out characters. That’s a complete mess of a post. However they did try to change the gameplay in dw6, however that failed terrible however mainly because they were rushed and they didn’t really think about it well, i knew they hated Dw6 because they announced dw7 would be better about 1 month after the release... Not to mention most characters didn’t get a story because there were too many... Alot in dw5 weren’t even that good. Kingdom mode is an easy way out.. And you want to talk about cutting fan favs?... May i point you to Miyamoto Musashi.. I still don’t see how 60 characters going to 16 would cause problems. People would just complain one of their favs are not playable.. I don't really care enough to read back at what's been discussed the last 30 pages, as it sounds like it was nothing but beating a dead horse (NORRRRR CLOAAAAAANSSSSS!!!!!! seriously guys? clones again?) Anyway, I'm totally for the 4 character idea. Shu - Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhao Yun, Zhuge Liang Wei - Cao Cao, Zhang Liao, Xiahou Dun, Sima Yi Wu - Sun Ce, Sun Quan, Zhou Yu, Lu Meng/Xun Jin - Sima Zhao, Deng Ai, Zhong Hui, Du Yu Give them all insanely awesome stories. Give them real personalities. Won't happen though. |
