The 3 unique What If's per character are quite.. meh I don't know I haven't heard that myself.
As for the 180 count, that was done on the older map before the newer screenshots (that count might have doubled or more since then, I'll do a new one here in a bit)
But I do see your point and my apologies, wasn't meaning to be offensive, just a lot of people like to jump the gun and assume its going to be worse than Free Mode

Aye shall be seriously awesome to get more background info on battles, see how officers are feeling before one, talk strategy, and then arm yourself to the teeth before charging into the fray.
If people can even read the text. Strikeforce's town/shop text was unreadable.
You must have a small TV. With an HD TV, the texts are legible and large enough. developers and testers shouldn't only cater to big TV/HDTV users. It wouldn't kill them to make the font larger, there is plenty of window space.

developers and testers shouldn't only cater to big TV/HDTV users. Under that assumption they shouldn't also cater to only PS3/360 players
Sadly they do and will lol

Honestly most of the cloned movesets are crossfaction (save for Shu, across the board they share with themselves more than a kindergarten kid with a severe mental disorder [I'm going to hell]) but my point is that some characters (Let's say Guan Suo) might never get played by Ling Tong fans (especially people who stick to one character or faction, which I admit I did for my first few years of DW)
Also dammit, people need to read my Conquest guide before they post anything about Conquest Mode, I swear some people just flat out don't know what Conquest is before they start whining about it =/ Okay someone said there are 186 different legend stages, 3 exclusive per character. The guide says you can select and play over 180 different missions. When you select a hex you choose which character to enter it as, certain hexes have special restrictions on which character you can use for it. The guide says, once you have access to a Hex on one character, you can play it with any character [unless it has character restrictions]) So if Special Weapon hexes and Officer Hexes are restricted to specific characters, that could eat up about 180 hexes on the map already, unless 1 Officer Hex represents all stages tied to that character. Even so, the amount of characters times a special weapon hex and a officer hex for each one, would take up more than half of the total hexes on the map, leaving the actual "free mode" supported stages to very few to choose from.................. ..........unless there is literally only 1 special weapon hex and 1 officer hex in the entire map, and the special weapon stage/officer what if story chosen will depend on the character you select (but doesn't seem like it works that way.) Based on the map, it seems there's no more than 180-200 hexes total, so how many stage/mission hexes left really have the free modeish free choice of characters? 5-6 ? I'm confused, I thought conquest mode just had every single stage from story plus extra and on top of that 3 special stages per character. I thought they said it was improved free mode, being able to slowly unlock the map and play any stage you want with any character.

There are hexes that limit what character you can play on them though, like the What-If's and Special Weapon stages.

1. Factor in that the majority of people aren't going to bother doing everyone's special/legend weapon.
2. Many will not want to replay every character's what-if/officer hex after the first time.
3. That leaves the people that like to main certain favorites, and co-op online a lot in stages that allow any characters. So if they have not so much free stages to choose from, that lessens options and replay value for players by a lot.
4. I think even what-if missions should allow free character choice after beating them once (turning them from silver to gold). That would add more replay value and free choices.
5. I wonder if what-if/officer hexes support co-op. (if they do, then maybe player 2 at least has free character choice.)

See no reason why you couldn't play any officer in the What-If missions as second player. It'd be like in DW6 if second player couldn't be anyone in Musou Co-Op.

So could I take Zhou Yu to the battle of Hei Fei? And would it just be the map or would it actually have the unit's commanders and troops that were normally present? (Excluding Zhou Yu obviously)

wait someone said that all stages from Story mode will be available in Conquest mode in like a free mode version of all of those stages?
Wow that could number at least 60+ stages that support all characters!

So for example, Chang Ban, its two parts in Kingdom mode (Zhao Yun and Zhang Fei), in Conquest it'd most likely be one giant level and you can choose any character or join either faction.
Units/Commanders/Objectives/Events would stay intact from Kingdom.
However, Chang Ban's map may be used for other missions in Conquest.

That sounds like traditional free mode to me. If everything Iv'e been hearing is true, then it really is a suped up free mode.I'll be very happy with that.

The stages of Kingdom Mode will be present, but not with the same objectives and characters.
It was also confirmed (by melange which translated the texts on KOEI Twitter) it would be possible to replay the stages of Kingdom Mode, but the character will be fixed. It will be impossible to choose another character.

It said like "Story Mode stages will be available in Conquest Mode but with the story stripped" as a rough translation.
You positive they won't have the same officers/factions?
Meh as long as they keep the Kingdom Mode stages to be replayable by choosing doesn't really bother me. I wish you could pick any character for them but if you can't, at least they'll include the stages for free.
I'm still confused on whether this means like Chang Ban will be available Wei vs Shu with no story and free character choice as well as Zhao Yun/Zhang Fei versions with Story.

THe pvs were pretty damn awesome. For Wu, Zhou tai stole the spotlight. FOr Shu, Ma Dai crushed everyone else in the pv into the dust. Looks slow but I assume maybe its becuase of the paintbrush moveset being powerful.

I have any problem with the "Free Mode" is no longer present in the menu, all I hope is that it's still possible to replay the stages (with the same objectives and same characters) with the character you want. I thought it would be possible in Kingdom Mode, once an stage ended, we could do it again with the character you want. But it was confirmed that this was not possible. The Chronicle Mode is the last chance for this.

The stages of Kingdom Mode will be present, but not with the same objectives and characters.
It was also confirmed yesterday (by melange which translated the texts on KOEI Twitter) it would be possible to replay the stages of Kingdom Mode, but the character will be fixed. It will be impossible to choose another character.
Ah see last time it wasn't perfectly clear on them.
I really hope this is not the case. I have any problem with the "Free Mode" is no longer present in the menu, all I hope is that it's still possible to replay the stages ( with the same objectives and same characters) with the character you want. I thought it would be possible in Kingdom Mode, once an stage ended, we could do it again with the character you want. But it was confirmed that this was not possible. The Chronicle Mode is the last chance for this.
If I can't play He Fei in Conquest as any Wei character besides Zhang Liao (even story stripped, beat the commander style) I'll be gravely and utterly crushed.
Same here and there is no reason we shouldn't be able to. Wouldn't be like Koei to throw away the chance to recycle content for hours more replay value
