Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for this game and can't wait to get my hands on it, but I think that Koei kind of half-assed the "equip any weapon!" system.
The fact people can now equip almost any weapon, and switch between 2 at a time, and switch midcombo too, adds A LOT to the gameplay! :)

Ya they can't use all weapons, but still being able to a lot of weapons besides their default signature weapon type is a big improvement!

Pike is the official term =/ as much as we'd like it changed to Glaive (which would be more accurate) they aren't really going to change it at this point likely.

Anybody can use that translator and its terrible, I’ve tried and it’s just dreadful, we need to stop trying to tell people what things mean using that and leave it to the people who can actually speak/write/understand Japanese.

Not exactly sure how you could get aggression out of my post, i wasn’t trying to come off that way...

However in recent games the official names of the weapon's have been ladled in their names given .. And both the Trident and the Bident is still a type of Spear and should be labelled as such while a Pike is not a group of weapon’s as its under the category of Polearm... To say that the incorrect term for a weapon is now the official category for these weapons just because we labelled Lu Mengs weapon as pike incorrectly is absurd..

A Glaive = Lu Meng is a polearm, not a pike
A Pike is a polarm.

Is there any way we change this "official" term
Oh ok, if you weren't trying to be aggressive I believe you. I don't think what the weapons are termed as needs to be discussed, although technically incorrect, 'Pike' is what people have come to recognise when talking about the moveset, that's all that's to it  .

Polearms encompass any weapon put on a stick. I'm going to give a short history lesson for the fun of it =D

Polearms are divided between a couple differences, usage (stabbing, cutting, hacking), end-type (Blade [length/size], point), and some other bits.

Spear - Point on a stick, meant for stabbing
Glaive - Blade on a stick generally, can include hooks and secondary blades, meant for cutting
Pike - Long spear, meant for anti-cavalry warfare, can include hooks, meant for stabbing
Poleaxe - Lighter/smaller axe head on a pole, mounted differently from a Halberd, meant for hacking
Halberd - Heavier/bigger axe head on a pole, mounted differently from a Poleaxe, meant for hacking
Voulge/Pole Cleaver - Similar to a Glaive, but mounted differently and meant for hacking

Technically..
Xu Huang uses a Halberd, since its a heavy axe piece attached to a pole
Lu Bu uses a Halberd, although different construction its still a very large blade on a pole, albeit if not for exaggeration he would probably use a Poleaxe technically.
Guan Yu uses a Glaive (or Guandao to be specific) a specific type of Glaive that's just a sword on a stick, he uses only cutting motions and sweeps (as opposed to any stabbing ones)
Lu Meng uses a Glaive (as opposed to a Pike since he swings not stabs particularly) it has a hook for anticavalry warfare but is used for cutting motions (albeit he has some stabbing ones)

Ingame Lu Meng/Guan Yu/Xu Huang are grouped under a category called "Pikes" which (although incorrect) can be generalized to long pole weapons.

Lu Bu's is just called a Halberd because.. well its a Halberd.

Part of the issue could just be translation honestly, since rough translation of Guan Yu/Xu Huang's weapons gave us Halberd type but in actuality it was the Pike type ingame.

Okay i think im going to pre order mine using play.com then :)

I just watched the Huang Zhong gameplay video where he is in the battle of Mt Ding Jun, im starting to want this game more and more now after seeing it and how characters walk around before battles, looks like peons are fairly easy to kill but officers are hard and take chunks out of your life easily!

with the defence/attack stat boosts that officers drop when you defeat them, is there a way of getting for example a +4 in attack rather than a +2, as i heard its based on your combo score when you kill them e.g. the higher the combo the better reward

hope that makes sense ><!

Yeah I think it's due to how long the combo is, reminds me of the way you combo'd officers on DW4 to get a higher weapon exp.

Maybe the difficulty plays a part in it also :)

Just a question (not complaining or anything) but are musous unique to the characters like ex attacks or are they unique to the weapon catagories? Thanks.

Xu Huang easily uses a Poleaxe  For one the axe head is not that big.. Not as big as it would be needed to be a halberd

Negative, Poleaxes are generally smaller than Halberds. Xu Huang has almost literally a block of metal on the end of his stick, it almost qualifies as a polemace at times.

He's got way more weight on there than Lu Bu usually does =P

Hmmm... Yes but depictions of Xu Huang's axe in dw4- and in the early stages in dw5 has always looked the same as some traditional Poleaxes... I think its safe to say that during the weapon level stage's in the dynasty warriors series, his weapon has started as a poleaxe but turned more into a heavy type poleaxe, often described as another type of halberd...

We have yet to see the look of Xu Huangs polearm aswell, in the first stage it might start off as a poleaxe.

Eh trust me, Poleaxes are usually dinky looking and tiny, even in earlier depictions Xu Huang's is definitely a Halberd and has remained such =P

His rides the line between Halberd and "Look ma I duck taped my axe to this broomstick".

Well now that this forum calmed down I guess I'll give my opinion on everyone...

Xu Huang: 8.5/10 - His weapon is a halberd? So no great axe? I'm confused.... Anyways, overall I like him, however I kind of liked his DW6 look better... Never really been a fan of turbans, he looks like a mummy.

Huang Gai: 9/10 - Although he looks like a greek god with those short shorts, and HUGE muscles... I think its his best look yet, I think he'll be one of my favorite Wu officers to play. And I'm glad he has his club back.

Gan Ning: 8.5/10 - He looks much better than I thought, however his hair and weapon kind of threw me off..... He reminds me of a super saiyan. And I want his knives back, those were awesome.

Wei Yan: 8/10 - I don't like how he doesn't look that badass this time. And I don't like how his weapon is the same as Zhang Fei's..... But he's still pretty awesome seeming.

Pang Tong: 8/10 - looks really generic.

Diao Chan: 7/10 - WTF!? Wow.... They really messed her up. It just doesn't seem right... Wheres the beautiful pink princess???? She's turning into a goth. However I'm glad the whip's back.
