Making all weapons usable by all characters kinda defeats the purpose though, no?
I just started thinking about it a bit more, and you basically chose your favorite character according to the moveset you enjoyed before. Now you'll only choose according to who has the best ex moves and musous...
If they had made more unique movesets for all, I think it would have been cool. Seeing Cao Cao, Sun Jian AND Xiahou Dun share the same moves is a bit " :/ "
I suppose more EX moves or unique charge attacks would have countered this?

Would have been better IMO if you could choose a secondary weapon but be "stuck" with the character's own weapon. Dual wielding two different weapons at once would have been epic though o.o
DW8! :D
favorite character on how good they are with a certain weapon, ex attacks, mousous, looks, and personality

Guys i've noticed something weird. On a PS3 controller in Japan the X and O buttons are the confirm and back buttons. (X is back, O is confirm). It has always been like this.

In EU/NA the X button is confirm, and the Triangle button is back, however in the english screenshots the japanese version of the buttons is present for kingdom mode. Yet in conquest mode, the buttons swap again? Does anyone know why that is.

X is confirm O is back

I think it might change depending on console settings (or something along those lines), because both in SSM6 and Gundam Musou 3 - X = accept and O = cancel for me.

Well it would be nice if some characters who suppose to be really on horses can like lubu. And guan yu

What if characters get their own specialized horse? Kind of like how characters have their specialized weapon. Now that would be cool. Both Lu Bu and Guan Yu would have Red Hare of course.

I just have an idea/wish, but doubting Koei would ever make this:
A "special horse-equipment/decoration/design-set" for every character.
For example, Wei Yan unlocked his set (somehow).
And when you choose a horse, you can equip that horse with the special set too.
I Wei Yan's case, the horse would wear a similar mask and similar armor of Wei Yan.
I Xiahou Dun's case, it would wear an eyepatch and such.
In Gan Ning's case, bells. And in Zhu Rong's case, well, just imagine......
Yes yes, i want to see that somewhen. Like having your own personal race car.

Think outside the box. Weapons usable by all characters allows players more free choices with their favorite characters and their favorite weapon(s).

I'm not denying this and I understand that now you can basically just choose according to personality, but I'm just saying that it's not what DW was about.

Quote:

Back then it was restricted what weapons each character to use but now things are way more fun and customizable!

Yes it is more customizable but at the cost of less individuality. Now basically everyone is the same. That's communism btw if you want to start talking about political views.
Haven't tried it yet so can't say if fun(neither can you decide for me), but I just find it defeating its own purpose a bit that EVERYONE can use EVERYTHING. Honestly I don't want to see Xu Zhu doing the spear switch move :/
Oh and please no "well don't do it then". It's just the possibility of being able to do it with no "physical" restrictions that irks me.

Quote:

Give them each different sets of weapons and they will each play very differently, that simple. :)

You're simplifying this too much. The beef was with the SWORD movesets looking alike even though Dun has always two-handed his sword.

Quote:

Also they have their own unique special/hyper attacks so they aren't 100% the same.

Yup. But that's three moves...

Quote:

No that is like a stupid dictatorship. No one should be forced to always carry their default weapon.

No that's not a stupid dictatorship. A stupid dictatorship is trying to snuff out all opposing opinions and dictating over what's allowed and what's not allowed to think/be had as an opinion :P

Quote:

Free weapons choice allows more weapon set combinations for all characters and allow players with different preferences to mix and match what they want, not what the game wants.

But then you can just make everyone carry a spear and a dao and just lose out on the other movesets. As has been seen from the videos where almost everyone carries a dao.
Like I said: At the cost of individuality. There's really not much making anyone unique.

Quote:

favorite character on how good they are with a certain weapon, ex attacks, mousous, looks, and personality

Yes but not the style anymore. Seriously we had multiple different weapon styles, OF THE SAME TYPE OF WEAPON, in previous games. Like I said before, they should keep the stuff that clearly worked.

EDIT: Oh and now that everyone's basically the same, the characters have lost their respective traits. For instance Ma Chao has always been about being a God on a horse. Ever since DW6 lost it, he's been just another spear user.

^ Truly the problem of DW7. I don't know why Koei decided to make something like this, but it seems like nothing different than having Dao (example) as the only weapon and moves while we're having tons of characters that are just mere 3D skins. I don't see the term of 'unique general' anymore.

You mean, that "Yakuza Warriors"-like picture?
It has been a while, since i have found that. It was the only size of it.
And yes, they're all from the pixiv-site. I look every day in there, and save the good ones in my PC.

Yeah basically. That's why I'm a bit sceptic. Now I do believe this will be a very thrilling game but I think it's just a matter of time before everyone starts using just a specific pair of weapons. I think the issue is going to be with "why use any other weapon when this does it faster and better?"
Ultimately making clones seem like a blessing :/

Honestly, how is it THAT bad that people can use the weapons they love with the character they enjoy?

Seriously, if I enjoyed the Dao and Dual halberds, why would I not want to use them? Of course I wouldn't only use them, I am just saying why would I use a characters weapon I dislike when I can enjoy that character more when I have weapons I do like?

Say for example, If a player dislikes Xiahou Yuan's moveset, but loves his personality and appearance... Would it not be best to allow the player to fully enjoy that character with movesets they like?

So what If people only use certain weapon combo's you do not have to as it is there play style, and the 'why use any other weapon when this does it faster and better' is what is great about this, you do not have to be stuck with some crap weapon. You cannot say 'you do not have to' is invalid, it perfectly is valid. You seem dislike this feature because you think it gives less uniqueness to characters, even though in a way it does. Give KOEI time to expand on this, and really no point in worrying about other people's play style...

It is really something that has potential to becoming a nice feature in later games. Uniqueness is focused on Character design and personality in this game, along with Musou and EX. In my opinion, this feature is going to be useful when I am forced to play the characters I dislike in Kingdom Mode.

I'm curious why you think it is a problem for people to dislike certain movesets and prefer others?

You have choice, I understand this is a power most of you aren't used to having, but please use it wisely.

To note I watched a guy play through almost every single character with the same sword and a different secondary for.. EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER! Every Kingdom Mode, every Conquest.. so honestly the movesets must not get that old and characters must play pretty differently if that's the case.

I agree with how it will indeed be more fun to have this than it would without it. The customization is going to be hours of fun to test out a certain weapon combination, especially with Seals.

It's not bad really, it just kind of defeats its own purpose. The characters don't really seem different anymore. And it can ultimately lead to everyone playing the same, which is far worse than just a few characters playing the same(clones).

Quote:

Seriously, if I enjoyed the Dao and Dual halberds, why would I not want to use them? Of course I wouldn't only use them, I am just saying why would I use a characters weapon I dislike when I can enjoy that character more when I have weapons I do like?

Well why would you use a character you don't like in the first place?
And I'm talking IMO, not IYO. I wouldn't enjoy having dual halberds and daos on everyone. You might, that's cool.

Quote:

Say for example, If a player dislikes Xiahou Yuan's moveset, but loves his personality and appearance... Would it not be best to allow the player to fully enjoy that character with movesets they like?

Indeed. But again this would really just become an issue of everyone having the same stuff. I even mentioned that you can choose according to personality now. I just think it would have been better if there were some realistic limitations.
Also you shouldn't really be playing as someone you don't enjoy playing as.

Quote:

So what If people only use certain weapon combo's you do not have to as it is there play style, and the 'why use any other weapon when this does it faster and better' is what is great about this, you do not have to be stuck with some crap weapon.

Well if you're ok with everything being the same, be my guest. Just don't go deciding on my behalf.
Really it's losing all individuality it had that's bothering me.

Quote:

You cannot say 'you do not have to' is invalid, it perfectly is valid. You seem dislike this feature because you think it gives less uniqueness to characters, even though in a way it does.

Err... I said that about the spear move thing.
It does give less uniqueness to a character and I'm happy you agree with me on that. But if you don't find it a problem, all the more power to you. I do find it a problem.

Quote:

Give KOEI time to expand on this, and really no point in worrying about other people's play style...

I already said this: 7 main titles. That's enough time to keep silent.
I'm giving examples I thought people would understand not being that good. Seriously if you think it's a good thing everyone can play the same, you must enjoy the clones from previous titles as well.

Quote:

It is really something that has potential to becoming a nice feature in later games.

Indeed and I agree. I'd like some limitations though.

Quote:

Uniqueness is focused on Character design and personality in this game, along with Musou and EX. In my opinion, this feature is going to be useful when I am forced to play the characters I dislike in Kingdom Mode.

But from a gameplay aspect it's repetitive. Also three moves distinguishing someone from the other, gameplay-wise, is a step back.
I agree that it is going to be useful, but I'd just enjoy it more if they had some actual "expertise".

Quote:

I'm curious why you think it is a problem for people to dislike certain movesets and prefer others?

I already explained this
It will just become more of the same and honestly it's far worse than just a few clones, which was what the major "war against Koei" was about, right?

Quote:

You have choice, I understand this is a power most of you aren't used to having, but please use it wisely.

Which I think is a good thing.

Quote:

Going by what one person likes isn't exactly the best way of reflecting on this issue.
It would be the same as saying "this one person likes repetitive routines of brushing his teeth every two hours" and expecting it to work for others as well.

Seriously this is kind of looking like people aren't allowed to disagree with the hardcore fans here...

Cloned basic movesets are better and more fun than individual movesets for each character? I think I'll give your school a miss.

Obviously the downside of DW7's new weapon system is that it does make characters feel less unique. It does allow more customization, though, which is a great thing for players who are more into gameplay mechanics.

I personally don't want to even judge the whole system yet. I want to get my hands on the game first and try it out myself. However, I have to admit that I wasn't big fan of the weapon system in FF12 which also allowed characters to use all types of weapons. But FFs are RPG, DW are hack'n slash. There's big difference.

I will wait until I have the game to judge the system but its forward and backward. It allows you to choose weapons but at the same time in gameplay a little less uniqueness between characters. We can only hope that this is improved in dw8 (if there is one.)

Good points and I'm holding off my final judgement as well. Just discussing things that started to bother me.
But about FFXII: I agree completely. Though the characters did have unique movesets with the weapons, which is why I didn't really find it aesthetically a problem.
On second thought: the weapon switching can stay. As long as everyone has a unique moveset :D
How's it going in the army btw?

That's an opinion, not a fact. If they do not agree with you, so be it; no need to preach ^^"

I can understand the frustration completely.
Every character will be the same now, excluding the musou attacks, which isn't much at all and since most musou attacks seem very similar, only with different animations, it's no biggie.

It's nice that Koei have given us freedom though, it's a double edged sword really, it's nice, but defeats the novelty of playing as idfferent characters really...

Therefore, i'll simply play as characters with only their Ex weapons and a secondary weapon that I feel fits the character best, rather than my favourite weapon. :')

However, I have to admit that I wasn't big fan of the weapon system in FF12 which also allowed characters to use all types of weapons. But FFs are RPG, DW are hack'n slash. There's big difference.
Onks ollu kivoja leirisäitä? :XD

I will wait until I have the game to judge the system but its forward and backward. It allows you to choose weapons but at the same time in gameplay a little less uniqueness between characters. We can only hope that this is improved in dw8 (if there is one.)

Indeed.
I'm doing fine, thanks :XD . Those pesky artillerymen get on my nerves sometimes, though :kurokan: . Säässä ei valittamista, kesää kohti kun ollaan sentään menossa :ph43r: .

And I'm also fine with the weapon switching. In fact, it's something I've wanted to see for a long time because many of the 3K warriors did historically use more than one weapon (like Dian Wei who used twin halberds and human bodies :shifty: ) . Brings also some realism in the game.
