Point 1: In past games, you were given a set number of items you could equip (things like every musou was a true musou, attack up, defense up, bodyguards more powerful, yadda yadda). These set number of items were the same for every character. Weak characters like Pang Tong did not get more item space than Lu Bu. Again, they were the SAME for every character.
Actually, DW4 did have certain characters with different amounts of item slots. Most warrior-types had only 4 slots (plus a saddle and orb), other characters such as rulers, females and some strategist types were given 5, while Pang Tong, Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi all had 6 slots. So it has been done before.
Its absolutely fair too for balance reasons.

I'm failing to see how anyone could have a problem with such a handicap though. Its pretty much common sense that to balance out something between elements, you provide certain advantages for all categories so that they vary but still come to a point where they should be equal in overall performance. And by this I don't mean that two different player characters end up doing the same thing in the end. It means that they both perform successively on levels comparable to each other, even if the method of play wildly differs.

There's an EX words in the BO Staff icon if you zoom it :D

Daosiying: oow too bad then, but it's okay they can add the ex and musou attack when DW 7 : Empires were released :D
I was going to say the same thing, but Xtreme legends usually comes out before it so they will have and this will mean no more.............. figure out the rest.

I know this the wrong place for it, but wouldn't be cool if in DW7 Empires the officers died in battle this time rather then just execution and old age, this is too early to be saying but i can't wait for the empires version of this.
Just pointing out that there was no DW6 XL as such, they did a Special version on the PS2 but that's not quite the same deal. Tbh, I'd rather not have an XL and have dlc support for DW7 until Empires and/or Strikeforce or whatever they come up with this time.
Ohh, my bad I forgot that it wasn't called that but Special, i guess I was just used Xtreme Legends, but hopefully they just go straight to Empires this time after all the dlc is released.

A few questions,

1) Does anyone think this will be released on PC in the future?

2) The post about Sima Yan a few pages back, was he just a generic strategist model?

3) Will the US and EU get the DLC in a week or so after their release? Or more in a month?

I can't wait to see what stages they plan on having, along with what weapons they are going to be releasing.

@QZW I agree, we basically already have XL, just a bit less detailed.

hmmm i kinda doubt with DW 7 special thing, but who knows since everything can be happened for Koei.. but it will be good if they released DW 7 special, beside to let another console try the game, it also would give a chance to make some characters unique again.. and then they released DW 7 empires and they make another characters unique again.. :D

but what i've been talking about? i even haven't tried DW 7 yet hahaaha

Yes it is. Same weapon type with only the musou and EX attack differences. Xiao Qiao's musou seems to pack a hell of a punch though.

Well the 3DS' arrived the other day where i work and when i found out they were £230! i thought why would such an overpriced handheld cause problems for DW7's release and with the recent delay for Europe i'm a tad baffled and may ask Chin himself what the commotion is about still there's 15 days to go which i'm sure will go quicker than i expect them to.

I think I'm more shocked that people are expecting Da/Xiao to have super unique movesets given they've shared in every single game they were in save for SF.

Yet it is possible. And I personally find that Da Qiao is much better with the two canes instead of her one/two fans. The two canes correspond perfectly with her new look, IMO.

I can't say anything about the canes since I've never seen the moveset, I was vehemently anti-Strikeforce so never saw them in action.

More weapon choices are fine with me though.

So, the new weapon available in DLC is not specifically linked to Yue Ying but all the characters? Knowing that this weapon have not an EX attack, so it does not have musou attack too?

If its not linked to a current character than nay. Since Musous are character based not weapon based, but I see what you mean, no one uses it in their animation.

I'm kinda baffled they did it like they did, maybe they'll release a character that uses it.

Its a shame that no one has an EX for it, but Im still going to replace Yue's bo staff with this.

I'd gladly exchange one EX attack for a whole new moveset, and the musou attacks are still usable, so all is well.

Although this weapon is not specifically linked to Yue Ying, it is clear that this weapon suit this character perfectly. It is not for nothing they have shown the weapon with her on the screenshot. So, for me: Bo Staff + War-Pike.

Honestly the scenario thats played out, with just the weapon and not the ex/musou is what i was expecting from the beginning.

I had a feeling they wouldnt bother decloning characters (and thus removing content, however limited) from the game. Adding in new basic weaponsets is fine, as it also opens up the high likelyhood of the next 'expansion' (i.e. XL/Empires/whatever) being the one where they'll be officially 'decloned.'

The only real surprising thing IMO is how cheap a whole new weapon/moveset is...100 yen is nothing...

Well, that's good. New weapons are not related to characters. I was a little afraid that if a new weapon was connected to a special character, the EX attack and musou attacks both change. Delighted that this is not the case.

Agreed with Tadakatsu.

There is very poor balancing here as a five slot weapon will far over power a 3 slot weapon in versatility. The base weapon attack becomes absolutely miniscule at the max, and in the end it does not serve as a counter balance to more slots.

a 30 point attack difference at max stats will be next to unnoticeable because by the percentages it would only count for a little bit of difference. But 2 extra slots? That makes a WORLD of difference in customization and power ups.

Koei is always switching things up and taking things out, when often when they had a perfectly legit system that would keep anyone happy in prior games. There simply is no definitive DW as of yet if you're talking merely on gameplay systems and mechanics, as they all have things that the others don't have. Its irksome.
I agree with you very much. It's one of the main problems I have.

ATTENTION
is the save file copy protected?

I have a problem with this because I don't like having my options limited for my weapons of choice. The fact that elements are set makes the limitations even worse. Now that it's been mentioned I do recall the DW4 system and it was a bad idea back then as well. It just didn't bother me as much because there weren't that many useful items to use so it didn't make as much difference.

Furthermore it doesn't balance the weapons out. It just lets you have a few weapons that will always be superior to most of the others. If Cao Cao's sword had 3 slots instead of 5 slots it would still be just as effective to use in the battles as most if not all of the 3 slot weapons. Adding two slots to that sword just makes it a better choice when playing on harder Chaos levels. That's why it bothers me. I don't like being forced into accepting a handicap just because I'm choosing my favorite weapon type.

Anyway I don't think they did this for balance. They probably just want to charge us later on for weapons that should have been included in the original game instead of being added as dlc.

$1.25 is a very good deal for DLC, i can live with that [if Treyarch made the game it would have been $3 , they charge $15 for MP levels for CoD]

anyway, i love the detail on the weapons, the designs are just so amazing and they pop out too
