Master of the War Trident

Scenario: 1551
Difficulty: Hard
Clan: Miyoshi

-Stipulations-
- Enemy daimyo must be executed when captured
- Officers with over 60 Virtue that are not Miyoshi officers(either in-game or historically) must be executed when captured; ronin with over 60 Virtue can be hired however
- Ashikaga Yoshiteru, Hosokawa Harumoto, Uesugi Kenshin, Uesugi Norimasa, Tsutsui Junkei and Oda Nobunaga must all die
- At least one of Miyoshi Nagayoshi, Matsunaga Hisahide, Miyoshi Masayasu or Miyoshi Nagayuki must survive to endgame

-Prologue-

Matsunaga Hisahide looked out over the railing of the tenshu of his castle at Mt. Shigi. The combined armies of the Oda and Tsutsui surrounded the tower completely; it would not be possible to escape past them.

"It's game over, Mr. Teapot."

The voice came from the only other occupant in the room; a young woman with strikingly golden hair and clad in a brown dress with crisscrossed strips of yellow cloth that resembled the pattern of a kogane-gumo spider.

"You seem amused at my plight, spider youkai."

The girl giggled behind one of her black sleeves as she stood up from where she had been seated cross-legged by the table in the center of the room.

"Hisahide, certainly it wouldn't be fun to let your ambition all end here, no? I found you to be a very entertaining human, ever since I first encountered you many years ago."

A gunshot rang out, and Hisahide calmly stepped to the left as a bullet embedded itself into the wooden wall beside him. He turned around to come face-to-face with this demon girl, whose top of her head barely even reached his chin while both stood opposite each other. To think that a being so nonthreatening in appearance was one of the many feared youkai that roamed the land of Japan and were spoken of in tales to children to keep them well-behaved.

"Yes... and I find you just as interesting a creature, Yamame. Unfortunately, it seems this will be the last time we meet. Nobunaga shall not get anything he desires from me, be it my prized tea items or my head."

Hoisting up his cane into the air, Hisahide pushed past Yamame and brought the heavy stick down upon the teapot sitting on the table; the famed "Spider Kettle" shattered upon impact, the porcelain scattering across the tabletop and floor.

"Next, to get Hisamichi to assist me in seppuku... and have him blow up my head afterward as we agreed..."
"Hisahide."

Turning, the Danjo peered inquisitively at his nonhuman companion. Yamame held her hand out towards him; in her palm, a single pill rested.

"Have you ever heard of the idea of time travel? Or perhaps, the idea of numerous concurrent timelines of the same world?"

Hisahide smirked. "Are we speaking of the idea of rewriting history? You said yourself that you youkai[ dabble in such things. I presume that pill there have something to do with it?"

Yamame's lips curled into a toothy smile. "I obtained this from a friend who owed me a favor. All you need to do is swallow this pill and then close your eyes. Allow magic to do the rest."

Hisahide walked over to Yamame and placed a hand over hers, closing it around the pill. Before he raised it to his mouth, however, he had one last thing that troubled him.

"I won't remember you, will I?"

Yamame's smile flattened as she replied, "No, not the me in this world, Hisahide. For us, this will be our final farewell. However, we shall meet again on the other side. You will also remember what went wrong in this world... this way, you will be able to fix the mistakes that led to this conclusion... including your own."

By the end, she was smiling again. Walking up close to him, Yamame stood on her tiptoes and pecked his cheek with her lips.

"Half a man's life is but a day to a youkai... however, I will remember this day for a very long time, Hisahide. Good luck in your future ambitions, or should I say past?"

The spider youkai giggled slyly at her own words, which Hisahide could not help but return the laughter. In one swift movement, he popped the pill into his mouth, swallowed, and then shut his eyes closed.

The next moment, he opened his eyes again. A ceiling. He looked down; he was in a bed. He remembered this bed, it was the bed he slept in when he was at Nagayoshi's Mt. Akutagawa Castle.

The edges of his mouth curved upward.

Deep, pelting laughter could be heard through the halls of the keep that morning.

"Hisahide, you seem in excellent spirit today," noted Miyoshi Nagayoshi as he made his move on the shogi board arrayed between the two players.

"You could say that I had a wonderful dream, my friend."
"Is that so? Something worth sharing?"

Hisahide chuckled before taking a sip of tea. "Let's just say I have great hopes for the future, Chokei. If we make our moves wisely, the Miyoshi could stand to hold true power over not just Kinai, but even perhaps the whole of Japan."

"That's a big goal to aim for, Hisahide. What plan have you?"

Hisahide countered Nagayoshi's assault on the board as he replied, "First, we consolidate and build our strength. Within one year's time, we then strike. There are three factions bordering us that must be dealt with before any other: the Tsutsui, the Saika and the Honganji. After we destroy them, then we can make our next move."

"I see... yes, those are all logical targets. Honganji will be a very difficult foe, however," said Nagayoshi as he moved another piece.

Hisahide smirked as he immediately countered Nagayoshi again and claimed his king. "Check and game. We have a year, Chokei. Let's see what develops before we decide how difficult our goal will be."

---

Some weeks later, Hisahide visited Iwatsuki Castle. This keep was under the ward of the young Miyoshi Masayasu, whom Hisahide knew very well from the previous timeline. The two had worked together on that side in staging a coup de e'tat on Ashikaga Yoshiteru and ultimately killing the Shogun. Hisahide knew they would have to repeat this action this time around; Yoshiteru was just too big a problem for the Miyoshi to be allowed to stay alive.

Unfortunately, it was too early to dispose of Yoshiteru; the Miyoshi weren't quite yet prepared to handle the backlash from killing a Shogun. However, there was someone else Hisahide wanted to have eliminated, and the sooner the better.

The dashing young man met Hisahide in the entrance hall, an incessant little grin on his face below a curly black mustache.

"Sir Matsunaga, what honor brings this visit?"

Hisahide cut right to the chase. "Masayasu, would you be up for a little... camping trip?"

Masayasu's eyebrow perked in response. "A camping trip you say? Where to?"

"I hear Owari is nice this time of year..."

---

To be continued! Ah screw it, game got messed up with Otomo steamrolling the entire west way too dang early. Maybe next time.
