As the subject implies, I'm curious as to just how much replayability is present this go around. I've already picked the game up, so this isn't going to influence my purchase at all, but having to wait until Saturday to play is making me antsy and all that fun business. As I understand it, there's the four different story modes for the four factions, each being 15-24 stages long or somewhere in that area. Then there's the conquest map, which is indeed pretty beefy, but... after that? I've read that there's no free mode this time around, and that once conquest's map is done, it's done. End of story. What do you do after this point, if anything? Again, I've already bought my copy, so this isn't a troll post looking to ruffle feathers. Just a guy trying to get a feel for what to expect, other than apparently Xu Huang getting the short end of the awesome stick this time around. Sadface. |

After completing Story and Conquest mode you do what you've always done in past: Focus on maxing out characters and collecting weapons, items, skills, horses etc. |

actually i don't think this game is replayable. i've spent 3 full days (spring break!) playing this and i see no end in site. they packed so much into this game that i don't think it will ever end. not to mention the DLC. honestly besides maxing out the weapons and characters you will have the DLC and the online play, plus the scholars quiz is always a nice distraction. and the historic battles in conquest mode has randomized officers so your not fighting the same fight over and over again. |

The kingdom stories seem to be intended as single-play affairs, so replay value boils down to how much you're going to get out of conquest mode. Knowing its nature and my own personal preferences, I can't see myself enjoying it all that much once the map is complete. Thus I've held off on buying the game. In previous Dynasty Warriors games, I had fun replaying battles with tasks to do beyond simple enemy killing - helpful events to trigger, negative events to prevent, siege equipment to smash, other unique battlefield features and hazards. Conquest mode doesn't have any of that. The big battles are just large enemy pileups. The smaller stages are reminiscent of the mercenary missions I got bored of after a few trips through DW6: Empires. Legends are bare bones affairs rather than fully fledged battles like in DW5:XL, and they can't be replayed as some other character outside of co-op. Of course, your mileage may vary. Grinding, move set experimentation, and mass destruction may be enough to hold your long-term interest, especially with co-op gameplay thrown into the mix. DLC stages are on their way as well, though there's no word on whether they're fully fledged unique battles or maps with simplistic encounters. |

This is what frightens me. With no Free Mode, I'm not sure how long after I beat everything I can still play. Guess I'll just have to wait and see. God knows I'm nowhere near beating the game yet. |

I think this one has the most replay value of any DW game that I've played to be honest. I've done every mission on the conquest map grid and I still find myself coming back playing new characters and enjoying the game, in fact I can say the game has gotten better since I've reached this point. I've probably been playing too much but I don't regret it, this is easily the most fun I've had with a DW game since 3. Theres a lot of content, believe me. |

I agree with him though I haven't fully completed either of the story modes or the conquest mode. I'm playing a little of each at a time, but in a way I'm trying to save Kingdom mode for the future to play for something to look forward too. Conquest mode is completely huge and when the dlc is available there will be even more hours of entertainment. There's months worth of entertainment in this game. You've got 62 UNIQUE personalities to play as and unlocking them is only half the fun. Sure maxing out characters can sometimes be tedious but as blicen said the game gets better and better. It is indeed probably the most fun and probably the best DW game in the series yet. Believe us when we say there is a lot of content for months of entertainment and there's still tons of DLC on the way. Plus you can always challenge your self later in the game and try replaying a lot of the things on Chaos mode or hard. Overall the game is very very fun and definitely worth the asking price. |

I get what you guys are saying. I'm just scared because I have that Free Mode battle mentality after all these years of spending so much time in it. I don't want to generalize the entire Conquest Mode, but the battles that I've played thus far are fun, but I'm not sure they can keep me interested for a long period of time after I beat everything and unlock all the characters. I'll always miss not being able to play the Story Mode battles with any character. |

My personal opinion of the replay value isn't too high. Sure you can do any random missions you want in Chronicle Mode, but they're for the most part randomized outside of the basic set up. Absolutely lacking in set pieces and there's no special cutscenes for specific situations like in DW3 so there's no difference in playing a stage with a different characters besides the model you're using. And the generalized weapon system makes playing as other characters worth less. Becomes an even more noticeable case of just playing with favorites. Honestly despite DW6 having a large case of recycled motions for its free mode characters, I found myself playing it off hand more. As its now, I'm just grinding for trophies and not so much the fun of just killing soldiers. I find myself playing DW6 and Gundam Musou 3 because I know that I can get some variation between runs. Bot so much here when other characters don't offer as much variety as before. When the april batch of weapon DLC is out, I'll probably jump back in with further interest. Or if they give us back Cao Pi's longsword. I really want that damn thing back and I sure as hell would be playing a whole lot more if I had that damn sword. |

Going to have to agree with this. The stages are very boring this time around. I really miss being tasked to do certain things like set Cao Cao's navy fleet on fire. These things happen on their own now... The game, especially Conquest Mode, ends up very similar to Gundam Musou 3: a blank map that is then populated with random generals and enemies. Fighting unique generals isn't even that fun anymore since the move sets have been changed so much and Musous were reworked. Now I think I'm just fighting another guy using a sword whose name is Gan Ning. Oh and Grinding in this game is terrible! I can play on a stage with max stars and still only get +1 stat drops in Conquest Mode. I guess I wanted it to take longer to max a character (not that there's a real point to), but geez this is just ridiculous! In the end, I think this is one of the least playable in the series since characters lost most of their uniqueness, as mentioned in another post. I'm basically playing as another person with the same move set because they happen to be using my favorite weapon... except they have a different Musou that may or may not be better. |

To be honest, the entire system itself seems far more suited for a custom character focused game and a campaign for it. Not entirely sensical to have this set up for 62 characters when there's little means of differentiation between them. Treat it with a class-type system and things ought to be better off. Should characters be able to use multiple weapons? Sure. But not every weapon. Limit the number of optional secondary weapons to logical and sound choices and add in some more character specific bonuses for them and then we'd be in business. |
