Oreadia, do you know what the conditions for upgrading the castle are? I've figured out everything else about upgrading the castle town, but I can't seem to figure out how to control the castle itself. It seems almost random...
I do not know either, need to research more.

Though from what I see it, it appears to the amount of areas you have obtained.
Level 1 is weakest and level 5 is strongest.

I played Empires mode (Free mode) the other day as Nobunaga Oda and I completed it with a level 5 castle.

It appears to be impossible to get a level 5 castle with history mode (Story Mode) due to a limited amount of stages you get to play there.

What I can say is, the empires mode ending really disappoints me.
The best thing about Empires mode is it's endings and that you can edit your characters and stuff like that to make your own cool ending.
However this have been stripped or I have not unlocked it yet. The ending of empires mode is just people (5?) talking to you and saying things you do not even understand (Since I do not speak Japanese! XD).

I hope I am wrong.
HOW COME YOUVE GOT SW3:E!!?
Does the Japanese version work on Xbox 360, and is it in English :o :o :o
Samurai Warriors 3 Empires is a PS3 Exclusive and it doesn't have English text... Also, XBOX360 is dead in Japan, sorry.
At least they know a h......Nevermind it would be to mean to "those users. (im sorry couldnt help myself!)

A slight correction. According to the Japanese wiki:

-In Empires mode, get blacksmith level to at least 4, in the next month you will get the message 「戦場で○○の武器を獲得せよ」(circles replaced with some officer's name). Complete the mission with that officer or an edit officer who uses the same moveset and you will get the rare weapon.
--You cannot earn rare weapons on difficulty less than Normal
-To earn 1st rare weapons (4th weapons) you must play on at least normal difficulty. For 2nd rare weapons you must play on at least hard difficulty
-The details of obtaining 1st rare weapons on hard are unknown
--Perhaps on hard difficulty when trying to obtain a rare weapon, if you don't equip the 1st rare weapon you will obtain the first rare weapon and not the second?
-Since the desired rare weapon mission is very unlikely to appear, it is a good idea to save before moving to the next month so that you can reload until you get the message you want.
--(not so sure on this last part, I'm probably mis-reading something...) If you have Nouhime, Oichi, etc. around the mission indication won't appear. When there are too many officers you can fire them with the discharge option.

So yeah, take that last part with a grain of salt, but I believe the rest is correct.

If you have anything to add on top of that, or any corrections (maybe I mistranslated something), let me know.
It is completely true. One more thing is, you do not get weapon missions with your created characters.

I have 3 created characters with Nobunaga and Ranmaru movesets but I do not get the missions.
However, if your clan has the original officer, lets say: Okuni. You have a CAW with Okuni moveset then you can use your CAW to fight in this mission to obtain the weapon.

I want to get the 5th weapon but since you do not keep your levels I do not know if I can win at all since Hard difficulty is difficult...
I wonder if those DLC where you get the flags (+10 levels per character on flag) released soon.
I think a weak player like me can only do that.

Great to hear. A quick question then.

Do you know the criteria for upgrading the blacksmith level? I understand that you first have to purchase the blacksmith building, but after that is it just a matter of upgrading weapons/armor or is there a special trick? I imagine you have to go from level 1 to 4 each time you start Empires mode as well?

I would agree that this game is challenging. Even just playing on Normal I've had a few instances where I lost or just barely won because I was swarmed by officers who had huge life bars. While fighting them off, all of my allies would die because of endless waves of enemies due to the supply and cannon bases.

Indeed the flags are helpful. Being able to start a stage at level 40(?) is great. Too bad it only applies to Tokugawa officers so far...

You can start off with level 40? My max so far is 21 and I have no idea how I triggered that.

Well I am sure you know where the blacksmith level is listed. It is directly right side of the girl, a number at the bottom of the screen.

The below are only for empires mode.
Story mode doesn't allow you to do such a thing.

I had no idea too how to raise the levels so this is what I have done.
Whenever I have 80000 or more I buy a luck card and I keep visiting blacksmith store EVERY ROUND.
The level will keep going just like that till level 3. After you reach level 3, the girl will give you a mission. Do not worry about the mission as the mission is only about picking drops from the battlefield.
As you keep fighting in battles the officers will drop something and you have to pick up 5 (I think). After you picked up all 5, you will receive a message in your battle screen stating it is done.
Once it is done, go back to the girl and give her the items and you will have blacksmith level 4.
I have been unable to reach level 5 so I think level 4 is quite the maximum.

And as you mention, as you reach level 4 and one turn later you will be getting missions.
Sometime the missions do not come right off but keep waiting, it will come.

So far the weapon missions I get are these:
@- Kill this officer when you have 6 fields or more. (The 6 is red highlighted)
@- Kill this officer when you have more than 300 kills (300 is red highlighted)
@- Kill this officer within 2:00 minutes (2:00 is red highlighted)
@- Kill this officer with 250 or higher combos (250 is red highlighted)

All these are for the first (Normal) secret weapons.
As I mentioned the 250 combos is difficult as you will most likely get it when you are level 15 - 20 and when you are so the enemies are very weak and easy to kill.

During my grinding I have figured out a good way to weaken the enemies but this is VERY risky.
Go directly to their main camp and capture it.
After you capture it, their soldier bar will go down to 0 and the normal soldiers will get VERY WEAK.
The officers do not refresh yet as the game didn't seem to go by that rule. I hope they fix that with a patch release.
All I can say is, keep saving within the game (Maybe every 50 kill or so) that way you will have the latest part to carry on with.

I have got the strongest horse.
You should obtain it by: obtaining all horses and play as Keiji Maeda.
I have not tested playing as Keiji Maeda at first. I only got him in my roster after I have all other horses.

My understanding of how the flags work is thus:

If you place the Tadakatsu flag and enter battle as Tadakatsu you start with a level bonus of +10

If you place the Tadakatsu flag and place the Hanzou flag adjacent, then start the battle as Tadakatsu and bring Hanzou as an officer (or vice-versa) you start with a level bonus of +20

etc. So theoretically you should be able to start with a bonus of +40 by placing the character you play as in the middle with with the other three flags touching the middle flag and bringing the other three characters into battle with you. Note that I haven't actually tried this yet, so my understanding might be wrong. At the very least, this seems to hold for +10 and +20

I don't think they'll patch that. As I said when I first got the game, the base system here is VERY similar to Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3. In DWG3, if you capture the main camp, enemies cannot respawn. Also, enemies don't respawn if the battle gauge goes to 0, so it doesn't actually matter either way since capturing the main camp drops the gauge to 0. Still though, this is good to know for those higher difficulties. I guess the best strategy is just to set your army to defense, rush the main camp, and hope for the best? I tend to find that it's more likely that I'll lose because my main camp is taken and all of my allies died than anything else though, so I guess I'll have to see how this works for me.

With regards to obtaining Matsukaze, I can confirm that just playing as Keiji will not do it. Do you know what the conditions are for obtaining the regular horses? So far I've only come across one of them.

There are quite a few websites where you can import games from Asia Pacific region.
If you live outside of Hong Kong (Which I believe you do) then you will be charged for a transfer fee.
Please visit:
http://www.play-asia.com/
http://www.yesasia.com/global/en/ps3-games.html

Please note that PS3 is region free and you can play any games from any where.
However, Xbox 360 has region locked.
E.g. if you have an UK Xbox 360, you cannot play games from Japan or China.
Please be caution.

If you import, I am sure forum members will give you full support in terms of game play and translations assistance.

@Divine Justice
Oh I see, well I will have to try that. :) Let's see if I can get level 40 from the start, hohooh
but that would make Tadakatsu or whatever strong and the other characters still start from level 1...
I wonder if there is a building (Special buildings) which helps officers to gain more levels.
I have just unlocked a new building which allows me to get more moves strategy base.

Horses? No I do not have any idea.
What I normally do is I capture every single enemy camps (besides enemy main camp) and keep playing.
Horses come slowly in the "correct" order too.

About the strategy...
Yeah that would indeed be the case but I have noticed something...
There are several special bases as you mentioned in the previous page.
There is a taiko base where enemies near by will get a lot stronger (flashy health bars) than the rest.
If you capture that, then the enemies will get weaker too.

I have a struggle, not sure if you have this problem too?
When I fight, my city's happiness goes down and it keeps going down when I defend or fight others.
As my happiness go down to 0, even if I create more farms it will not bring it up at all.
As the happiness is zero, enemy soldiers will not drop any rice cakes within the battle.

So is there a way to maintain the happiness?

here is a new discovery.
You complete the game once with level 5 castle (yeah you will get it when you keep playing, no need special function).
Next game when you get level 5 you will get a choice.

Azuchi castle, Himeji castle etc.
You have 3 level 5 castle to choose from to make your city look nice.

Now I wonder if I get more when I complete my second empires mode.

They lied! :D
The truth is, there is an IF scenario.
I have just completed the 3rd scenario (Year 1600) and I have got two more scenarios.
A scenario after Oda's death with Hideyoshi taking over, year 1584 and an IF scenario called The era of musou (Year 1560).

This scenario you do not get the no face wariors or lets say very few of them.
This world has ALL the usable characters.

IF Scenario I would say:
Easiest, Leyasu or Hideyoshi.

Hardest: Well quite a lot of them, lol

So far I have 5 Empires scenario. Now I wonder if there are more of them.

In my very first game I had my happiness reach 0, but I've been careful not to let that happen since. In fact, I try to keep it as close to 300 (max) as possible at all times. It's nice being able to heal +150 instead of +25

Hm... I'm pretty sure I was given the option to choose my level 5 castle my first time playing, but I accidentally scrolled past it too fast and chose the huge castle option. If you look in the gallery though, you can see all of the buildings (including ??? for buildings you haven't found yet). Currently, mine has three unknowns, so I imagine that's Azuchi, Himeji, and whichever the other is.

Chacha eh? All these new characters in the social game really teases; it would be great if they were in SW4.

Chacha seriously has potential for character relations and development; daughter of Oichi and Nagamasa, niece of Nobunaga, possible relationship with Katsuie, Hideyoshi and Nene, mother of Hideyori, and possibly could participate in Anegawa, Odani Castle, any of Hideyoshi's campaigns, and Osaka Castle.

It'd be cool if she wielded some unorthodox weapon that did suit her character, but was entirely unexpected. Maybe a huge Gun (like a larger version of Masamune's)? Or a Short Katana/Nodachi, or even Oichi's old cup and ball?

I hope, if she's added in SW4, that the devs would portray her as the concubine with a grudge. Hideyoshi was the reason for Oichi's death after all, and she can blame all of the Oda for Nagamasa's. I really hope she goes with this route. She'd have the external appearance of a pure-hearted maiden just like her mother, but deep inside she holds her dark feelings of revenge against those that stole her loved ones away from her.

Now to wait for Okatsu :P

This is exactly how I pictured her. Her strong resemblance to Oichi is exactly why Hideyoshi went and made her his concubine.

I can totally see her and Nene going at it, with ChaCha being the 'troll' and grinding under Nene's skin with her farce kindness, or even genuine blissful ignorance. Both would be great.
