http://gundamguy.blogspot.com/2011/10/tomino-yoshiyukis-new-project-g-reko.html Tomino already has plans for a new series. I know this is old, but I think that it's worth bringing up in this topic. However I'm a bit worried about this one. One the mods from my site managed to find translations from GameFAQs about the summary: <A summary of Yoshiyuki Tomino's new project G-Reko> € The title is still undecided (it's codenamed G-Reko) € It's starting as a Sunrise Project € Kenichi Yoshida is supplying illustrations (it's not clear if he'll be staff on the project) € They seem to be aiming for an audience of late elementary school to high school students € They want to make it a story that'll be memorable to the children of the quake and their circumstances might be a hint € The theme is the resilience/restorative power of women € For the boys, it's a question of how they'll cooperate with the girls? For the girls, it's about looking at the power of "sex" and making women aware of the restorative power they have. {uhh, I hope I'm just mangling this in translation because this sounds incredibly offensive already} € It's planned to be the story of male and female siblings (an older sister and younger brother) € They want to end the current "little sister" trend in anime and manga € If we rethink our view of women's power over the next ten years, I think the older sister character will become more popular € I think I want to write a story about the birth of a queen € I want to keep the pattern of a kids-oriented show, while looking forward toward the end of the 21st century and show them the arrival of a queen € Is it the tale of a little brother who turns his elder sister into a queen? No, perhaps he doesn't even know they're related. I can't really decide if he should find out that they're related after she becomes [queen]. € About a thousand years have to pass to get from Universal Century to the period G-Reko takes place in € If you think about the timeline like: AD -> UC -> G-Reko, it's gotta be about a thousand years from now € I wanna make something that I'll want people a hundred years from now to see. And to do that, I've come up with a setting no one's done before, but I can't talk about it now. € I've been thinking about a way to make a story that'd seem fresh even to people a hundred years from now, for about three years. € It's not a design issue so much as something more different that I'd want to span the ages that I've been thinking about. Now, I know this is Tomino, but after Victory, I'm truly frightened of being alienated from Gundam because of all the Radical Feminist pandering BS. So I'm hoping to God that the final project is not what I'm thinking it will be. |

Yeah i'm kinda undecided on this one. On one hand I like some of the concepts presented but on the other hand i'm really hoping they don't beat this idea of feminism to death. Now don't get me wrong, I love strong female protagonists and I would love to have a main female protagonist that isn't male. However, I am somewhat concerned over some of the stuff you just outlined lol. |

The UC tends to do this. Scirocco started it in Zeta, though we have no idea on whether or not it was genuine or he wanted a woman because he knew he could manipulate her feelings easily. Victory did it with Uso and his famous quote, having Shakti be a princess, having the Zanscare ruled by a Queen and having a female villain in Katejina. Unicorn blatantly showed this in episode 4 with the woman from Anaheim Electronics and her quote about only women having the ability to create life when it "takes two to tango," and saying men can only destroy, which is probably the most extremist thing stated thus far. I'm basically gonna go out on a limb and say that G-Reko will probably be out-right misandric, making all abusive anime relationships before it combined look like a speck of dust. |

With Scirocco and Martha (Unicorn) though they were both antagonists and clearly have their own agendas. It was never really a big issue with those two situations because it was a means to an end for them. Still though I am somewhat concerned with where they could take this. This situation kind of reminds me of the fact that Loran was originally intended to be a female protagonist but was changed into a male protagonist because they believed it wouldn't work. I really hope that this experience hasn't caused Tomino to come up with a rather extreme premise for this new series. |

Reading that, I'm not entirely sure how to feel about it. It sounds like a good idea, but it seems to be moving towards more in the extremes when it comes to feminism in the like. Now I'm not saying women empowerment is bad and all that, but this appears to be moving into a territory where men would be looked down upon. I mean, come on, "how will boys cooperate with girls"? That's elementary school stuff where boys need to overcome fear of Cooties. But to be fair, this appears to be targeting the late elementary-high school crowd, so whatever. I think among the different "sects" of the fandom, this could be pleasing all around. UC worshipers will be happy it takes place in UC again, there's a female protagonist, it deconstructs one of the oldest anime and Gundam cliches, etc. If the action will be good, it keeps the underlying war theme, and has aesthetically pleasing merchandise, this could be a hit. But if it carries that moral, then it will relying on blind devotion and ignorance to the message. But yes, the first thing I thought was "We're really going back to this juvenile thought of boys disliking girls. C'mon, Tomino, if the brother is younger then how young is he supposed to be? I mean, a 15 year old protagonist is not going to act like a 6 year old and try to avoid girls and not work with them. |
