I wasn't sure at first, but now I like him. Everything about him seems unique; story, appearance, personality, moveset (his R1 is completely broken - probably one of the best special attacks in the game), everything! It's really fun to play him~ Definitely one of my new favorite characters in WO3, with Kaguya.

I feel like Koei was lazy not telling his back story or w/e also i feel like his character in general is a little boring, his moveset is a tad bit bad too. It's bad at crowd clearing, so I get the crap beaten out of me XD His musou move was bad too :c I just feel like Koei was really lazy with this one. |

I read up on all his legends on the KOEI Wiki and found that he had major ties to serveral prominent supernatrual entities and characters in Japanese folklore. 1. He was considered to be an offshoot of Yamato-no-Orochi in some way. 2. He was said to have had a fellowship with the regional demon of Kyoto, Ibaraki-doji. 3. Along with the fox spirit Tamamo-no-Mae and the Emperor Sutoku (who became a Daitengu after his death), he was considered to be one of the Three Greatest Yokai of Japan. 4. His position was said to have been divined by Abe no Seimei. With that being said, is it possible that his appearance might pave the way for any of the characters mentioned above to be added in a future WO? |

It's Warriors' answer to Hellboy! I really love how his moveset is based on a giant flagon of alcohol. He was tricky to learn at first for me but I wanted to stick with him and now I'm satisfied with what I can do for right now. Also, Seimei Abe ended up being added in Hyper so we might see others related to his legend. |

His moveset is both awesome and yet a bane of my fun at the same time. Its great how unique and fun it is but its means hes not a character i enjoy using at higher difficulties without spamming select moves, gotta love that R1 though - damn boy. |

Shuten Dóji is honestly one of my favourites in the Orochi series. He's got a compelling story, he's got a tricky, but overall enjoyable, moveset, his personality is endearing... Which kinda saddens me because I honestly don't think he's going to have such a big impact, or place, in the Orochi story as it continues. I mean, he's barely even acknowledged in Ultimate's story. If we do get more games in the Orochi series, I can see him disappearing or not being treated as relevant anymore. |

^ I guess that can be explained. Remember that his life-force was used to power the Yashio'ori cannon. Maybe he died as a result, which is why he doesn't appear in the new Ultimate storyline. He did get another stage for himself, though, showing how he came to meet the Serpent Army in the first place. |

Shuten Doji's moveset is really effective and balanced, and his R1 special skill is seriously overpowered (possibly one of the best moves in the game). His design is also rather unique. I guess he's my favorite WO-exclusive character after Sun Wukong.

I have yet to really warm up to Shuten Doji. On the one hand, I really like his design and how he fits into the storyline of the game. On the other, he has an awkward moveset that takes some time to master effectively. |

Seems like my stance about him hasn't changed over the years because I still feel exactly the same about him. I like his new aerial R1 attack in WO3U, though it's nowhere near as broken as his original ground R1 attack. |

Looking back on it, Shuten Doji has been a character full of surprises for me. His addition was the first time I ever learned of his existence in folklore. His appearance immediately distinguished him from the rest of the KOEI characters I knew at the time and his moveset was unexpectedly funny and tricky. But the biggest surprise was his role in the story. According to both his lore and the connotations of his appearance, I expected him to be a new villain--but what happened was a pleasant twist. His tale turned out to be one based on the themes of self-discovery, conscience and making one's own choices regardless of one's roots. The way his nature is constructed in the WO universe is quite unique and cleverly alludes to his lore. According to at least one version of his tale in Japanese myth he is actually the son of the Yamato no Orochi himself. In WO, he is the embodiment of Orochi's conscience and free will, while the rest of Orochi becomes a hollow shell bent on mindless destruction. In folklore he is often portrayed as a rather tragic figure--a supernatural child feared by his adoptive human community who becomes an outcast and succumbs to his demonic heritage, but WO reverses the trend and has him eventually befriend and become accepted by the humans of the Coalition. Everything about him manages to both adhere to and creatively interpret his persona in Japanese tradition, resulting in what may be the most sympathetic incarnation of him yet. I can't help but think that Shuten is KOEI's way of redeeming Orochi, showing that there's at least a part of our Serpent King who can learn compassion and friendship. |

Personally. I am very disappointed with Shuten Doji. not design wise or moveset wise as I think it works perfectly for the infamous Ogre King of Japanese myths. but personality and and his role in the story wise. Now dont get me wrong i am not going to be one of those people who thinks they should follow the myths 100% i am well aware some of the characters dont follow the myths. Ne Zha is a cyborg, Fu Xi and Nu Wa are sepertine Gods, and Susano'o is apparently the King of the Gods in WO. but the thing with them is they still refference thier myths and have aspects of thier myths personalities. like Ne Zha was known to be arrogant and so is the Ne Zha of WO despite how different he is from the myth. Shuten Doji's only refferences his myths through his weapon since the Shuten of Myths loved alcohol. but for someone who is famed for being one of the three most evil Yokai of Japan. i feel the WO version failed in this aspect miserably as all he is, is a empty husk who is obedient just to find his memories. when i think he could of easily been a big Antagonist in the game. didnt have to make him 100% follow his myths but at least had to follow some hints of it.
