Achilles page on Koei Wikia
From Koei's Warriors: Legends of Troy, based on the Iliad
Type: POWER
Weapon: Xiphos and shield
Voice Actor: Canna Nobutoshi

  • Dragged into the distortion just before being hit by Paris's fatal arrow during the Trojan war.
  • Nanzhong stage has Greek buildings added

So, Achilles... I heard a lot of talk in the main WO3 thread about what a jerk this guy is. Well, it's true. By today's standards, Achilles, as represented in the Illiad, was a monumental prick. But so was everyone, back then. By the standards of the ancient Greeks, Achilles was... well, still kinda a prick, but one of the Iliad's major narrative elements was the humanization of this nearly invincible warrior.

A bit o mythology:
Achilles mother (Thetis, a Goddess), fearing for her child after hearing a prophecy of his death, did what any good mother would do and sought to protect the kiddo. She dipped infant Achilles in the River Styx, which made his skin awesome and invincible. However, she was holding her baby by the heel, and so the heel didn't get super-skin blessings. Having invincible skin is a pretty good advantage in a fight, so Achilles became developed a reputation for being a savage warrior. Later on, he joined the Trojan War, killed a bunch o people, sacked a few temples, and took a few girls. King Agamemnon, leader of the Greek Coalition forces, took one of Achilles' favorite girls, and Achilles was like, "Screw this," and refused to continue fighting. The Greek forces got their asses handed to them for a while, until Achilles' friend (and possibly lover, depending on who is doing the reading) Patroklos took Achilles' magical armor and rallied the Greeks. Patty was killed by Hector, (a prince of troy and pretty much the Trojan's answer to Achilles). Achilles got pissed, got back into the fight, and killed Hector. Eventually, Achilles was eventually killed when he was arrow-shot in the heel by Paris, who many people thought was a beautiful, wussy coward.

To sum up in a completely opinionated way that is not intentionally implied by the Iliad, Achilles was a mama's boy who used cheater moves to get famous, threw tantrums all the time, and then was killed by a girl(y man).

Warriors: Legends of Troy tones everything down a bit. In the game, Achilles is a proud warrior and only demands the respect he earns. He hated when Agamemnon took even partial credit for military victories he barely had any part of, and was even more pissed when Aggy took Achilles' girl. However, the magical nature of Achilles' skin and armor isn't mentioned, and the gods only interfered in big ways, like trying to kill Achilles with an animated statue and some river zombies. He didn't drag Hector's body around with a chariot though, and the game dies more to villianize Agamemnon than it does Achilles.

That main thread i mentioned earlier basically declared him to be another Lu Bu or Tadakatsu. I don't like those comparisons. Koei makes Lu bu into a groveling coward when Cao Cao is standing over him, and Tadakatsu fought loyally all the time. Achilles never betrayed his lords directly, but he did refuse to fight for their behalf as a matter of pride.

Anyway, Achilles is sucked into Orochi's distortion RIGHT BEFORE he gets killed. He ends up in Nanzhong with bits o Temple and the Trojan Horse. Weirdly, the TH wasn't even conceived until a bit after Achilles was killed. I wonder if he'll ask about it.

I'm wondering who he'll be interacting with.

I think people immediately link him with Lu Bu and Tadakatsu Honda because they're the resident "super tough enemy" of their games, not so much their character

He's going to be a dead cert for the Betrayal storyline (if not I'm calling Ma Chao and the Justice Police), but as far as character interaction goes, I can see him with Jeanne D'Arc, Xiahou Ba, Dong Zhou and Keiji Maeda quite easily, if not, then it's going to be a story made by me.

Unless people have uncovered something more I'm actually very curious about his moveset, will be be Ougi (SW) or Ranbu (DW), being his charge system is more akin to DW, but his musou is more like SW.

*Strokes beard* Tis indeed a thought worthy of contemplation.

As far as him being a colossal ---hole goes, I really hope it's reflected in the game.

I strongly believe that he will side with Kiyomori and he will be a match for Lu bu, Tadakatsu, Muneshige or Keiji

Man, Achillies is incredibly fun to use in WO3. He's slow, but you can just feel the power he uses when he swings his sword. His voice actor is good too (well, as good as a Japanese voice actor playing a blonde, non-Japanese person can be).

I don't know anything about his mythology or his backstory, but I really enjoy his personality in this game. He's a mean, sadistic, cruel bastard. That's why I love his relationship with Da Ji. He's cruel, and sometimes mean to her, and she just loves that about him. What was that one discussion they had? Something about Achillies making Da Ji his queen, and killing as many people as possible to satisfy Da Ji's love for blood and screams? Jesus, that's brutal. And I love it.

Heh - hes a badass, just as i had hoped for and not just in moveset. He is cold and brunt with people and makes no apologies for the way he is. I wished he would have featured more to clash with Lu Bu or Tadekatsu instead of just Nezha as his one fateful clash in the game as Nezha was built in the game to be stronger than any of the humans daft enough to take him on one on one.

People state he is slow and boring in moveset but i wanted a moveset faithful to his era and of course Warriors of Troy... slamming people down and stabbing someone in the throat is all Achilles yet i didnt expect to see it on an Orochi game, kudos to Koei for being faithful to his character. Would like to see more Warriors of Troy characters in a future Orochi game... he mentions them in some of his quotes which made me think of how great that would be.

Cruel, remorseless, blunt, vicious and yet somewhat honourable as evident in his convo. with Meng Huo, Musashi and Motonari ... he's just a warrior through and through and Koei actually did a good portrayal working on that single-minded approach...

Granted I've never had to play Warriors of Troy, but his moveset is just made to look powerful... slow, somewhat simple but satisfying nonetheless... Love it that he can use Sun Quan's DW6 sword, suits him...

I like the first time you fight him. It's just you and him in that area and no peons or anything. Fantastic.

I don't know if you still want to know if Achilles was real or not, but since I'm a huge fan of him I'll post this anyway. Achilles as depicted is of course not based on the reality, but he probably was a real warlord in Greece since a lot of the names used in the Odyssey are based on real locations and persons, as far as I know.
