Got this game and the 3DS on pre-order... can-not wait. Too bad it comes out two days before DW7, though... that'll definitely eat into my playing time. |

This game will allow me to try out the new characters and not bother with SW3XL. I am pretty excited for the game tomorrow, I hate that the voices are in Japanese though, I would've preferred an English option. Can't enjoy any cinematic if I have to read what's happening. But oh well, I am really enthusiastic about the idea of swapping characters across the battlefield. |

I'm completely comfortable with reading subtitles myself, but yeah, for those that either prefer English or can't stand/don't want to have to read them, my sympathies. I guess they didn't want to have to pay the English VAs on a game that they're not certain will be a top seller in America. That's my only guess. Cheap of them, yes, but I don't think they can afford to splurge. |

Well, at least those anti-English VA people will be happy. They finally have a game where they're forced to listen to the Japanese VA, yet don't require Japanese to play it. |

From what I've been able to learn about the game, you get two save slots-- presumably one for the Guy and one for the Girl, if you're so inclined. The story mode, if you run straight through, can be done in about 30 hours-- that's if you don't try to do extra stuff, supposedly. Not only that, you can make friends with the characters to unlock them to use them in any battle. Just how to unlock those characters is undetermined at the moment. I think somehow the main perk is trying to make friendships with all 40 characters or something. Edited by Amakusa, Sun Mar 27, 2011 1:49 am.

This is the game I'm counting on to keep my interested in the 3DS until Atlus and Nintendo start making some larger efforts on the system. Sadly, my GameStop isn't doing a midnight release or a 9am opening, so I'm stuck waiting until 11 for the system. At least I have Monday off. |

So I got my 3DS and my game (as well as Street Fighter). First on the 3DS, it's pretty neat, especially the AR stuff. I will say it takes some time to get used to the 3D of it, can make you somewhat nauseas, and moving around too much will result in difficulties getting it focused, naturally. Now, on to the game: Spoiler: click to toggle

Through some fortunate events of luck I got 'stuck' with 3 3DS and Samurai Warriors Chronicles yesterday. I've decided to write some impressions of mine. None of it should contain spoilers, so read on if you are interested. When you start, you don't have a lot of options. 'Part 1' as it's labled contains various battles and is basically also a guide to getting you used to the game-style and stuff. It was nice to play even as someone used to the Warriors series. As you play through Part 1, you'll unlock more options. For one you get the option to fuse weapons and thus make them stronger. You can fuse up to level '10'. Fusing one weapon to another raises the level. Also be sure you select the weapon with the traits you wish to keep as first one. You can do this for your own character as well as your allies. You also get an item fusion thing, that I haven't quite figured out yet, since I played around with the story too much to check it out THAT much. You get items. As with other games before you can equip them and more of them as you get stronger. Apparently this time thought there are certain items for certain slots. I think you can have 4 slots (that's what I got so far). It's kind of like 'normal' items are rank 1 and later you get more powerful items that are higher rank. rank 1 items can only go in slot 1 and thus you can only have one of them. I hope that's somewhat understandable ^^° You can also purchase mounts. When you are further into the game, you can also customize the appearance (clothes/armor based only) of your character a little. I unlocked two 'outfits' so far aside from the base one and hope that there will be more. You also get to sell weapons you have no use for. The money you need for merging weapons and purchasing mounts and changing your character in different clothes. I think that summs up that area. What I really, really, really, really love about this game is their way of telling the story. Every character is portrayed really well. And here I mean EVERY character. Tadakatsu for example is actually portrayed to have knowledge of strategy and once even advises Ieyasu which one to use. To me that was a major reason to go O.O in surprise and then mentally cheer. Also the story starts way earlier than what I'm used to from SW games. I was positively surprised to see reference to some events happening in history or even actually worked INTO the game. Example for those intersted: Spoiler: click to toggle There is LOTS of interactions. Usually you get an overview of the situation, then you get some sort of interaction between characters involved with the next battle or showing how the situation came to be. During battle are also quite a few interactions and then after battle as well. And then you usually get to choose one of three people that you can socialise with. (How those are choosen I don't know. I thought at first it has to do with the participants of battle, but I know now that that is not necessary true). As mentioned before these interactions really do the characters justice and make them come alive (they are animated with very realistic expressions most of the time!). I enjoyed even some characters that I didn't particular have any interest in (haven't tried out everyone yet). Depending on your reaction to whatever happens, your friendship with them can either go up or down. It's a bit of a pity in my oppinion you can only fall down to neutral. I wouldn't have minded some rivalry or hate :3 The choices you make seem to influence the story a little. At least in the end you end up on either western or eastern army in the battle of Sekigara. The mission-system from SW3 is back, but in a slightly different form. I have to admit I feel a bit reminded of SW1, but in a good way Bascially the missions kind of pop up during the battle, but you usually get the arrows where to go - unless you need to find someone hidden or something. The most intriguing feature is probably that you are able to switch between up to 4 characters. What impressed me here this time is that they are actually useful even if you don't control them. I think this is the first Warriors game where I didn't think the NPCs are absolute useless idiots that you need to rescue all the time and who don't do anything when you aren't around. No, this time they actually BATTLE and even might defeat enemy officers if they are strong enough. The 'battle skills' are also really interesting. It's using up your spirit gauge points but personally I think most of them are completely worth it - and sometimes really save your ass from getting kicked :3 Overall I can say that I'm very satisfied with the game and will definitly try to trigger all possible interactions with all characters (I already have some charas at max friendship level, but still have social events I haven't seen before). What I dislike is, that I'm really missing some sort of function what the requirements are to unlock certain battles/stages. Slight Spoiler ahead: Spoiler: click to toggle And finally about the 3D function. I'm not certain if it's the game or generally the 3D on the DS, but I've got to say: It's nice to have, but quickly gets irritating. When there isn't much going on, it works perfectly, but having to hold it at certain angle and at a certain distance IS annoying. When there is a lot of movement going on, it tends to... I don't know how to describe it, but it kind of seems too much. Either on the human eye itself or on the console. I enjoyed the first three battles in 3D and while it was 'nice' I didn't particulary grew fond of it and then turned it completely off after trying it on a lower setting. I've been able to enjoy the game a lot better ever since. Perhaps someone else gets greater pleasure from that feature, but I don't. I'd rather have had the game on a console using a TV if I had a choice in this. Given the use of the touchscreen it would be possible to put it on not only Wii, but also PS3 and Xbox360 (personal oppinion). I guess that's the general gist of it. If I forgot something or you got questions, I'm willing to try and answer them if I can. The info is probably not 100 % accurate, since I wrote it from memory, but it should come very close to the 'truth'. I absolutely adore chibi Yukimura at the start screen btw. It's a pity you can't see all as chibis :3 |

Probably...some of the so called "choose your own path" things about it aren't really that. Seems a bit pointless. I don't know if spoiler tags are still necessary, but I will do it anyways: Spoiler: click to toggle Overall however, I am having way more fun with this game than I did with SW3. Your allies are competent this time. The battles give you missions, usual SW style, but none of them are required to complete the stage. Really the only thing you have to do in the end is defeat the commander. The missions, while not required, will play a part in turning the tide of battle in your favor...or against it, and it is noticeable, your enemies can get a huge boost in defense if things are going good for them. The battlefield is, for lack of a better term, sectioned. Red and blue, similar to the way it was in DW6E, and the further into enemy territory, the darker the red (or blue for your allies), and if you rush in and fight the enemy in the darker sections, they will be harder, defense boost like crazy. Speaking of missions, as I said they aren't required. Hell, technically you could fail them all and still win the battle. But you are bombarded with missions, with up to 3 or 4 active missions at one time, they really force you to make use of the whole "switch characters" thing, and directing them to specific locations. and another interesting tidbit, all four characters you control share a single horse. You equip it to your main character, and everytime you call for the horse, it will leave whatever character it was with and go to the character that called it. |

I'm through with one of the paths (already had the credits rolling and stuff) and still can get (only) into whatever battle I have unlocked. It is however mentioned that to unlock some paths, you sometimes need to have a good relationship with specific characters. Unfortunately there is no hint whatsoever what the requirements are, so I'm left experimenting. So relationships are really important. I wonder thought if it's really possible to get chummy with all. I think I did all Hanbei Takenaka events now. I maxed him already (of course :3) but I wonder if you messed up on those, if you had alternate choices of getting him maxed. Some characters have choice-events at the end of a battle (Hanbei does after the last battle in the first part, for example) so you just have to go through that battle again and have a choice there, but many others don't. Actually I think only the 'key' characters have them. Hideyoshi for example. I've been unable to find out if you can re-trigger those events. I wish one can, since I really enjoyed all of Hanbei's and a friend who can't afford the game would like to have them in detail, but I only started writting down those I'm triggering now... Well, for now my plan is to get chummy with them... AND TO FINALLY GET KANBEI-DONO events >< Those were the ones aside Hanbei I wanted most from the start, yet so far I've not been offered him as a choice after the battles, despite purposefully picking ones where I can play him -.- *annoyed*
Yes, I noticed that today as well, trying the other option and ended back in a loop. I guess I could try using the other option more often, but I don't think it will make a difference. The choices do however do something to the friendship level (sometimes) and I think (not sure about this one) if you pick particular choices you also kind of set the basics to unlocking other stages, perhaps. It certainly influences the last part of the story. So far I've also been able to unlock two missions in the 'Gaiden' section. I'm not certain if those are fictional or based on myths or actually historical stuff, but they are interesting. I have two more marked with ??? but I hope there are more than four. It is mentioned on the package that you can download more scenarios, but I'd still prefer around 8-12 extra missions already on the game. Thought I got to say there are quite a lot of battles. I don't know the count exactly, but I'd say per part (and it's four) it's between 6 and 10 battles. Also, when you switch / are switched between sides, so far the story has always been believeable. Spoiler: click to toggle I'm still a bit annoyed about Sekigahara, but overall I really AM enjoying the game ;P Edited by wildcard, Mon Mar 28, 2011 9:05 am.

Anybody else encountered freeze while playing the game? I got the game on friday, too and so far I already encountered 4 freezes while playing. Three times when I tried to start Part 3. After the introductory scene kicked in, the game froze. 3 times in a row. And another time while the battle of Shizugatake. When my Mitsunari was defeated the game immediately froze and nothing happened and I had to restart everything. =/ Kinda annoying. =O |

@Mr. Kamikaze , I would have thought that the 4th weapon system is similar to SW3 where the player has to complete all the missions on a certain stage with hard difficulty. I wonder if there is Chaos mode as well? Also I found it weird how Ujiyasu said that he wanted me to get together with Kai, since he thought all men needed a wife. Is it actually possible to get into a relationship with Lady Kai? |

Yeah personally I have only one stage to unlock as well as unlocking the western army on Yamagawa (I'll just need good friendship with Muneshige). So far I have the 2nd battle of Ueda castle and the Battle of Yamagawa, both unlocked by having good friendships with certain characters. From reading the manual there will be more Gaiden stages since they are downloaded over the Internet. I still have no idea about Utimate weapons (they do exist or there would be no f***ing gap in the vault!) and no-one else anywhere seems to know... |

I have to say that I really enjoy the game. I think the mini missions that pp up and the other generals that you can command are great. my only problem is that on normal the game is a bit too grindy. You have to get back into missions often to level up characters. At least that has been my experience so far. |
