As diplomats and journalists dissect every word spoken by top Israeli, Iranian and American officials for signs of a potential Israeli military strike on Iran’s nuclear program, an online campaign to prevent just that has gained steam in Israel.

On a sunny Friday in Tel Aviv, a few dozen Israelis gathered on tree-lined Rothschild Boulevard to shoot a video to be posted on YouTube. It was the latest effort in the “Israel Loves Iran” campaign that Israeli graphic designer Ronny Edry and his wife, Michal Tamirm, launched last week

“For there to be a war between us, we must first be afraid of one another, we must hate,” Edry says in a fundraising video already on the site. “I’m not afraid of you. I don’t hate you. I don’t even know you. No Iranian ever did me … harm. I never even met an Iranian, just one in a museum in Paris – nice dude.”

Sitting one by one in front of the camera, the mostly young Israelis took turns holding “Iranians, We Love You” placards and saying a few words to the camera in the same vein.

”The message of this campaign is people to people,” Moti Khemo, who manages the movement’s website, told ABC News. “We believe that we’re not that different, and most people just want to live in peace.”

The site and its accompanying Facebook page are filled with photos of Israelis from all walks of life and the “Iranians, We Love You” slogan, with the subheader: “We will never bomb you.” On Friday evening, the page had almost 28,000 “likes,” and the campaign has raised more than $16,000 to print posters and “keep the movement grow[ing].”

Organizers say responses from Iranians around the world have poured in.

”Unfortunately, the stupid politicians in both countries are trying to separate these two rich cultures!” wrote one responder.

One of the more popular posts ricocheting around Faeebook is of a man and woman kissing, with him holding up his Israeli passport as she flaunts her Iranian passport.

”Persian girls are sexy and adorable,” the boyfriend wrote. “Our cultures and backgrounds have never got in the way. We actually share the same ideals, so everything works perfect.”

According to a recent poll, 19 percent of Israelis support a unilateral strike on Iran.

”No one wants to live under any kind of nuclear threat,” said Shai, who was passing by the “Israel Loves Iran” shoot. “We don’t want war, we don’t want anybody to die. Not here, not there. But we are under a threat, what are we supposed to do?”

The participants recognized that it’s a simple message for a very complicated issue, and of course, they can’t promise “we will never bomb you.”

”In today’s world, it’s really more about public awareness, public consciousness,” participant Talia Gorodess told ABC News. “The more people join this campaign, the more, I hope, my government will think twice before doing anything foolish.”

I didn't know what to think when I originally saw that thread title pop up on another forum. But I like the idea a lot and hope it goes viral.

Discuss.

This won't really do much though since 99% of the problem is Iran's leader and there needs to be some sort of intervention against him. I'm sure most Israelis and Iranians don't want a war, but Mahmoud does.

It's always the people who suffer from the errors and grievances of their respective leaders. There are plenty of Iranians who harbor no grudge against the Israelis and vice versa. So why can't their governments make peace instead of war?

Well Netanyahu seems to be a bit of a hothead but think most leaders would get uneasy at the thought of someone who has vowed to destroy you getting nukes. Plus the nuclear arm-race that might erupt in the region at that point. Less sure what Khamenei is looking for with Iran's current foreign and nuclear policy.

Only 19%? Surprising. Always nice to hear stories like this, hope it continues if tensions continue to grow.

Psh. Either nukes for everyone or no nukes at all. I'm strongly against the idea of a few countries having nukes and acting like world police.

Well said. At least the region should be clean but the only country in the region holding nukes is Israel and now they are paranoid just because Iran is going with their nuclear energy project. If they do have nukes so does the other few nation. What harm did they bring to the world compared to the rest who possess it?

Well, that's what the sanctions were designed in a way to "intervene" but they don't work as much when the sanctioned people can turn to homegrown sources.

I always thought it was the Supreme Leader of Iran who wanted war, or at least with Israel, has always made remarks, saying "Israel will vanish from the Middle East" he also accused the US and Israel for fueling the Syrian civil war.

Ahmadinejad on the other hand... recently he was questioned by MPs but not much came out of it.

Old post there man, but if Iran is smart they will not start a war. Now I sided with their president for awhile as I was convinced he was being truthful about his intentions with his nuclear program and even if he IS making them with ill intentions, I think it's only a "in self defense" measure. Aka, he needs provocation. And right now, I worry about the bully-ish hot headed Israel.

I believe they won't start a war unless they plan to commit genocide the whole nation. I agree with you that as for now they have their right to do so as a member of IAEA. Even if they do develop nuclear weapons, so does Israel who posses in larger quantity. I ran isn't expanding it's border but Israel do so it isn't harmful for them to have it. After all the UN talks about democracy is better way so why not let them to have it. Is it just because their favored government under Shah Iran has been overthrown?

I believe Iran has the right for nuclear power as some countries have like Israel. It's funny how when Israel had their nuclear program no one said ANYTHING!!! Except for JFK...who ended up shot dead. Coincidence???

As others have said, the problem isn't really the people, it's the leaders.

I don't think many common people want war, unless they've had their minds warped by propaganda. It's down to the leaders, if it's a corrupt leader war will happen regardless of how much support of lack thereof the people of said country want it.

That's where it looks like Russia is heading under Putin. I don't know about the Russian public but Putin could get Russia into war all on his own tbh.

There's not a single country on the planet with any desire for war. A lot of countries possess nuclear weapons and if a country such as Israel feels it's on the brink of extinction, nuclear weapons will be used as a last resort. That would mean the end of us all.

The only real warfare we'll see in this time and period is political, through sanctions.

Sanctions should be brought to Israel instead of middle eastern countries such as Iran, because Isreals leans too much on it's alliances and expects allies such as the USA to intervene if Israel were to be attacked.

Even if sanctions placed upon Israel would work and Iran invades Israel, even then the conflict should be solved through political ways. The threat of nuclear weapons is too high.
