And again, here is it in-game:![]() Working as intended. I know those damn data blocks had to do something. But as I said earlier, I don't have the PS3 data nor am I able to do all the offset changes needed. it's all down to you guys to make a working patch now.

But there's no point... To edit one offset I have to edit EVERY OTHER offset below it in the file. Look how many strings are below Xiahou Dun, it's half the damn file. I had to cut 2 characters from the next 2 strings just to make the offsets work out right, that's why their names are butchered in the menu screen. But fine here you go, I'm not editing another one cause I have to do everything manually and just break the string after... It needs some scripting to fix. ![]() ![]() I think Headhorr already had this all figured out anyway, he just doesn't know where to fix the draw area, which I don't either. Hope he solves it. @Headhorr: Have you checked out file 29? That one looks promising, it has lots of XL text headers, possibly one per screen... But I have no idea of the format at all Edited by Lavos, Mon Apr 2, 2012 1:41 pm.

Ok. i patched the 31 file (the 1.1MB one) with english texts. Most of the ingame stuff like "Victory will be ours" or "another enemy slayn" are english now. the issue with the truncated strings remains. @Lavos file 29(its file 28 on my end. my index starts at 0^^) contains only 12 XL headers. i tried looking in to it, but i haven't found any useful data in it yet. |

You could always hack it... it won't look amazing but it would work. If you do what I said before, space out Dian Wei, with 2 spaces, that puts the W offscreen, then change the string you see to the right of it to Wei. x.O |

That is possible in the character Gallery menu but the ingame threads pose a real problem if "Rest assured, we are fighting for the most righteous of causes!" becomes "Rest assured, we are fighting for the mo" and so on. Some are even more crippled so you can't understand what exactly they want. i looked over 29 and compared it to the ps3 version. Seems like there isn't any major difference in them so that rules that file out. same with the small 3kb file after that. What we are looking for is probably a GUI descriptor for the HUD and the other menus. I made some tests with different string lengths and the draw limit looks like it's not per string but per menu element. If i just had some idea what to look for i could probably crack it, but without the tiniest bit of information about the format it is really difficult. .... Just found some flash cs5 created files.... Edited by Headhorr, Mon Apr 2, 2012 9:54 pm.

4572 contains some swf files. probably some blinky animations. 4572 is packed btw. i'd really like to know what kind of GUI system they are using. Does anyone know of an editor for the menus for some other dynasty warriors part? Edited by Headhorr, Mon Apr 2, 2012 10:42 pm.

Oh right yeah. Well if you look at 4579_0002 (In your index). That's the background screen of the Chronicle screen, and it does have a text, select thing length there in the texture. So if it's in the flash files, look at 4578, that should be the file for it. Or check all the 4 files before it, 4575-4578, they all have text headers. Can you send me the script you're using? I pmd you the 2 scripts i use. if we know all files that contain text i could upload the unpacked string files to match them up with the ps3 version. It is definitely too much work to do it alone manually, but because of the draw limitation and the offset for the options menu i currently see no other way. edit: Experimented some more, and ingame messages seem to top out at 40 characters, which is strange because i replaced strings with more than 40 characters.... Buuut, the japanese strings with over 40 symbols are multilined... hm gonna change my script and see what happens.. Why does it only cripple my strings... They are exactly as the japanese strings but they just stop drawing after 40 characters even after the newline... Edited by Headhorr, Tue Apr 3, 2012 2:21 am.

I think they're in other files. They read x bytes, it's not character or perfect-length based. I guarantee it'll be reading 6 bytes for each name on the chronicle page. I'm looking at file 4578 (in yours) as being the main candidate for it. The formatting is very strange, just looking for anything that would imply 6 bytes per. |

an edited linkdata isn't recommended. I tried using that method from another PC of mine to save time, but it ended up making the game not to run. The edited linkdata which contains partial translations already available was done on a XP 32bit system of mine, while the other which had a fresh install of the game then patched (with the edited linkdata from XP) with the translated version has an OS of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. linkdata works on the XP without any CTD but not on the Windows 7. There's a chance that the linkdata won't work either if I try to reinstall the game on my XP system computer since it happened on my another computer which also has XP that didn't work as well... The best solution is probably the way the person from Precious Manga did with Musou Orochi Z for the PC whereas he created a script for an automated patch program. This way it saves you time and saves you from downloading a lot of size. I hope someone could come up to something like that... or ask "him". |

And another Problem... The ingame overhead strings don't support western strings at all. The thing is, they use the same strings as the menus. replacing them results into this: ![]() who develops stuff like that... On the picture you can also see that the limit for the shown string "lord ..." is character limited to 40 characters. It is independent of how many bytes the characters need. |

patch progress=none. till we get the string truncation fixed. Got the ingame Text stuff working but all menu strings are incomplete now. The way i see it the only solution is collecting all strings and modifying the character set with pairs or triplets of chars so the game thinks it has only drawn one char. This means all text files have to be found first because all japanese signs will be corrupted |

Can you send me the files 30, 31, 40, 43 and 44? In the previous screen it does look like you just messed up the strings a bit there. If it was cut off it wouldn't have part of the game name in it... That's a whole different string there. The hacking it way really doesn't work very well lol:

You can't, because then it'll be Japanese in-game. Those second strings aren't used for anything other than that menu. The first one is what shows up in-game and on nearly all other text strings it's the first one it references. Headhorr, you'll just have to start replacing files with the PS3 versions. Try replacing the ones around the menu textures, they all look suspect. 4578 especially. And if nothing works, hell just release a broken patch, it's better than nothing. |
