Damn that blows :hmmm: I hope that means once a month we will get HUGE amounts of it.

Because if they go at the rate they have been going of trickling out just one stage and some BGMs last month, and just Japan VA's and some themes this month, it could be YEARS before we get it all. Damn it I want Sun Quan's flaming sword ASAP so I can finally say Ciao to that Dao :realangry:

Well unlike 7, they actually took some time to cleanup the assets from 4 and 5. They didn't create new textures for them like they did for 3 which they remade from the ground up, they're certainly much cleaner than they were in 7. 7's were direct rips from likely Orochi Z and so were using Ps2 grade textures.

They also increased the polygon count on some objects like capes so that they'd flowed closer to the stuff in the game already. Still Dw3 outfits are much nicer than 4 and 5 because of the complete remake versus a remastering.
Ah, so that's what it is. I do appreciate the effort this time around, it's probably the same reason for the JP fans being charged this time too.

I did notice that capes and pieces of cloth flow better than they do in DW7, heck I could say the same about the default outfits. The movements in the past costumes are a bit more subtle, they don't have that extreme wavy movement like the defaults. Characters with or that had long hair move better too. Like Xiahou Dun, its not stuck to his back nor does it flop excessively. I even think Zhao Yun's is toned down too.
Tbh I hate how much loose clothing and long hair moves in DW8, to the point where I'm kinda hoping there will be a patch to fix it (though there won't be, it's too minor). It looks really unrealistic, the way that the slightest movement the character makes causes the hair to flap like they are standing under a helicopter. A minor complaint, but it does bug me. Some characters stand out in particular (talking of default costumes here, not sure about 7 costumes because I don't use them); Cao Pi, Zhao Yun, Yue Jin.

That said I'd rather it be like this than stuck to their figure PS2-style. The graphics are much better in 8 than they were in 7, although as I've said before I still think the 6 graphics were the best to date in a DW game. The lighting, textures and animations looked the best.
I have to agree with you on this one they made xing cai look like a total w**re. isn't she supposed to be a warrior? give her some dignity, it doesn't bother me that much I guess cause I don't use her or anything and I`m used to the constant s*x appeal on the ladies (love diao chan), but save it for the girls that are supposed to be like that. I just can`t take her seriously anymore. I`m just like lol checks every where XD.

I love Zhao Yun's ROTK outfit. It just gets irritating seeing his cape constantly clipping through his weapon.
Me too, I really like SSX's outfit as well. I find it such a shame they never did the ROTK treatment to them all, it would have been brilliant.

It really is a shame, although a few look really too close to their DW counterparts (*cough*Cao Cao*cough*)

And Lu Su wouldn't be able to fit in his little ROTK self outfit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe DW7 DLC came once a month as well.
I hope we will have a lot of them.

The DLC comes out once a month!! It seems that KOEI want us to hate them. Moreover, this month's DLC sucks. PS3 themes only?! What customes, stages, weapons. THEMES?!!
I can't get these people. The DLCs are already available in Japan; What can't they just port it to us?!
May God have mercy on your souls, KOEI

They just announced the PS3 themes will come in August.
They didn't say it will be the only DLC for this month.
I think we will see some costumes/weapons already. And at least the Mammoth DLC

I'd expect them to do what they did or DW7 in regards to the weapon DLC, and put them into packs of two rather than releasing them separately, so hopefully we'll see the Blaze Sword and Screw Crossbow coming together this month.

DLC for DW7 came out bi-weekly, not once a month. so really we got two batches of DLC per month.

I wonder why they are doing it once a month ... that just seems ... weird.

Geez, that's terrible, I know things take time, but people will grow disinterested if they have to wait for content that long. Especially since, the replay value isn't what I would call long, at least for DW game anyway.

I wonder if I get the English version and use the data transfer method Wonderpierrot used will my dlc carry over?

Again, Koei failing at marketing 101. Do they realize this is not an Elder Scrolls game and their DLC are not massive expansion packs that draw people back to the game? The DLC in DW8 are small things that people might buy if they are still enjoying the game at that time. That means they should be releasing this stuff shortly after release. Someone who is not a diehard fan that has moved on to another game will not feel an urge to come back to DW8 in October so they can purchase and use BGM #3. Koei should be releasing content steadily on a weekly basis, or bi-weekly at the most. Otherwise, by the time September or October comes around, the people on this forum will be the only people purchasing their DLC.

I'm a diehard fan of the series and I think even I will be bored to death of 8 by the time all the DLC is out. I'm thinking of just putting it away for a few weeks and getting it back out once the DLC I want has been released.

Btw, anyone think there may be a possibility that this hella slow release schedule might mean we're not getting all the DLC Japan got? It is a possibility some things might just be Japan exclusive. It wouldn't be the first time thinking of WOZ.

Agreed.

And it's not like these packs are very large either. If they are all as small as the Bowangpo pack (just three stages, two of which are rather damn short) then that's just gonna be awful.

DW7/XL and WO3 released with large chunks of time in between, but there was a good amount of stages released at once (like anywhere between 4 -6 for WO3). If Koei plans on keeping on with these small released once per month...that would be terrible

Most of the stages after Guan Yu's boring escape, are a good length, well except for that Wu Nanzhong stage, I just remember all of my allies dying within like 5 mins and killing Meng Huo within 7 mins, so I wouldn't fail the stage lol. I panicked like hell lol I couldn't figure out what the hell happened it was so fast.

But anyway, I'm not sure if all the stages are lengthy since I haven't played all of the dlc, but the past maps excluding the 1st two are good. Even ran out of time in Guan Yu's escape in the 3rd scenario, then again you are on your own with who knows how many officers blocking your way.

Honestly, a lot of the ROTK designs have a lot of very samey looking armors, not like the designs currently in the series. If not for the Green Cloak, Guan Yu's armor looks cool, but it's almost as palette swap of others.

Also, the strategists don't exactly have battle outfits. Lots of cloth.

Armor that actually looks like armor and look era appropriate is not a bad thing. It adds a classic and realistic visual element missing on a lot of the costumes post DW6.

Plus most of the people in advisory roles would not be wearing armor anyway because they're not supposed to be on the front lines. They just direct people. Not engage in active combat. Plus that same logic would invalidate pretty much every female character in use. It's just not a good excuse to not have those sort of outfits in this game.

Though that may be true, it does fit the era of the game a lot better, than what has been going on after DW6. Although 8 goes back to its roots a bit, the costume still come off as fantasy like for most of the characters. I wouldn't mind seeing more of the ROTK outfits in DW or at least some influence from it. I just hope they give Sun Jian his red scarf at some point.

Well, there goes my copy of DW8. I probably spent the most time on Story Mode, but that only clocked in, like, 50 hours of gameplay. I'm done with how boring Ambition Mode is and the reverse stages in Free Mode are kinda bland.

And now the one thing that can increase the shelf life of the game is coming out at tortoise speed.

That's exactly what I'm talking about, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't release all of it because the sales for it are low, or not frequently purchased. Though that's mostly on because of things on their end. It's not like it's much to translate or anything, since they seem to be using recycled dialogue from the game, can't say the same for the JP version, since I don't speak it, but there is a ton of yapping going on, if it's unique however....don't know.

I doubt people will stick around if they want the weapons, which is really the only thing worth getting, but alas it'll take too long even get the first two weapons at this rate.

I will say I chose the right thing to do by playing Shosei mode first though, since it took so long I spent nearly 70 hours completing it 100% the first time around, havent touched it since though unless I'm tempering. Story increased by like 50 or 60 hours because I chose to start over at the beginning for the IF routes. Now I'm doing free mode. I probably only have like 300 hours or so, however it's because I haven't touched the dlc yet which came in quickly on the JP side.

:ot: You didn't really almost die on your birthday did you? Glad you're okay though. I had a friend who passed on his sis birthday, bless her. I miss that smile of his. Try not to get down whenever your b-day rolls around.

Chin updated is blog.
It seems DLC won't come every two weeks, but once a month instead.
http://inspchin.wordpress.com/2013/08/08/dynasty-warriors-8-custom-themes-for-ps3-dw8-tkfamily/
This sounds absolutely horrible. Has he said anything about them actually releasing all the DLC here at least? Or maybe releasing multiple stages/weapons at a time?

I hope so. Because if we're getting one stage or weapon a month I can't see much of the DLC making it over here. Which really sucks because I desperately want the Xiliang and Yangping Gate stages.-_-

Edit:

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the JP stage DLC mostly come out in pairs? Or am I crazy.

Haha, no, no. I went camping and kayaking on my birthday and it was...a dangerous experience, to say the least. Kayaking and heavy rain out in the near middle of the ocean is a big no-no. Thank goodness for lifejackets.

Back on topic, I wonder when we'll be getting any of the special DLC costumes, or any of the Ambition Mode themes. At the rate they want to release it, I'd say a good two or three months. Maybe four. It's gonna be a loooong wait.

I do have a feeling they might bundle the weapons and stages for stateside in groups of two or three. Similar to how DW7 did with weapons and the legacy battles which were all stand alone content for Japan, weren't they?

Unless they either don't plan on releasing everything here or don't care I can't see how they could only do small dlc updates per month considering we wouldn't have all the content until probably next year which sounds absurd.

That's what im thinking. We got two at a time, Japan got one at a time for DW7/XL, so I assume they'll do the same with DW8.

We'll get the Blaze Blade and Gatling Crossbow thing together, then the Emei Piercers and Boots, then the Blade Bow and Twin Fans.

And I assume we'll get about 6 or 8 more weapons for XL.

Hopefully by some miracle the next stage pack is a trio like the first few DW7 stage packs were.

It would be especially nice since Bowangpo was stand alone and Guan Yu's Thousand Li Journey isn't very good.

Having Nanzhong & Jiangdong later this month would probably help balm inflicted wounds. <_<
