I just picked up DW8XLCE (whew long name) for the PS4. I'm really, really enjoying it other then having problems being constantly disconnected during online coop play.

Where I need help is this -- I've been doing research on how to be a better player. I've got my girl Xingcai finally at 150 with a fully tempered three dot weapon. Really enjoying her but I want to try someone new. Here is where the problem is. There is not a lot of information on all the different lingo, and how to do them, for this game's combat system. Questions:

1. I understand C3 means Charge Attack 3. Which means I do it by pressing square, square, triangle. What I don't understand is are Charge attacks dependent on the weapon or the player? If I have Xingcai using a great sword, are there any Charge Attacks I can use on the great sword for elemental damage?

2. EX attacks vs Charge attacks. Are all character/weapon dependent EX attacks considered Charge attacks? So, other then the few like Cao Cao I've seen mentioned, they will activate elemental weapon skills? So basically if I pick a character, open up info and see the two EX attacks I can assume those are the Charge Attacks for this character and their EX weapon?

3. I've seen some terms I was not able to find how to do them. Like Jump Charge Cancel, Jump Cancel, and then C3-Charged Switch. What in the heck are these and how do you do them?

I'm sure I have many more questions but I can think of anymore. Thanks in advance for the help!

I'll give this a shot. A little unclear what you're asking, but i'll try anyway:

1. Charge attacks depend on the weapon, you can have any weapon equipped to any character, the charge attacks will be the same for that weapon regardless of the character that it is equipped to. If you equip the Great Sword on Xingcai, she'll have the same charge attacks with it that anyone else would. As for elemental activation, I believe all of the Great Sword charge attacks, except C1 and C2, activate elements.

2. EX attacks I suppose would be considered charge attacks, but if memory serves EX attacks don't activate elements, except for the EX attacks that have inherit elements to them, like Zhurong's or Cao Pi's (fire and ice, respectively). Every character has two EX attacks only with their designated EX weapon, not with every weapon they use.

3. Jump Charge Cancel is being able to jump out of your jump charge. Sun Quan, Zhurong, Daqiao, and a couple others that aren't coming to me, are among those characters who can do it (or the Sword, Boomerang, and Pugil Sticks). Jump Cancel is the same thing...except for any other attack, every Dash type character can jump cancel out of most of their moves, there are some exceptions like Zhu Ran being unable to jump out of his second EX attack, but these exceptions seem to be very few. As for C3 Charged Switch...I don't know...I imagine it has to do with charge switching your weapon after your C3, but only a few characters can even charge their weapons...but that sounds like its mostly a combo play style thing...not that important.

Not sure if I actually answered anything as I didn't fully understand the questions. But I tried.

Yes, you actually answered all the questions I had perfectly. Thank you! Sorry if it was confusing, I'm new to the series like I said.

Is there an easy way to see if a Charge/EX Attack activates elements? Could I put Frost on a weapon, run around doing Charge/EX Attacks, and if it freezes them then that one activates elements?

If an element is active you will see the shimmer of it on your weapon when you attack. For instance Li Dian's EX Attack 1 is Ice Elemental, and will freeze nearly any foes it hits. Liu Bei's Ex Attacks are both Lightning Elemental, Sun Quan's Ex Attack 1 is Fire Elemental and so on. I *think* the descriptions of the Ex Attacks in the Move Set says if an Element is attached to a move.

If you want to see what normal moves activate elements go with Fire, it activates 100% of the time and is very noticable.

And if you have any other problems related to this, do the tutorials in game. They are very useful for newbies
