Okay, so this was a major problem in DW8, but it seems they've really amped it up to 11 in DW8XL. How come allied officers, regardless of whether they're generic or not, tend to instantly die at the start of a battle - particularly on Ambition mode? I've often seen them die before the opening dialogue to a stage finishes playing, playable characters are often dying to 'Mobile Unit Captains' and generics can't even take on a small group of mooks. It doesn't seem like it correlates to morale either. If you leave one of your officers to take on another - they're going to die. If you have to leave your officers whilst you pursue an objective - they're going to die. Officers which are supposed to be able to handle a situation for the sake of gameplay or completing an objective instead fail utterly. It's really starting to highlight the 'style over substance' issue that the series has started to have recently and I was wondering if there was any option or setting I could play around with that might fix the issue. |

yeah its pretty bad... I can usually get by a battle without losing anyone though, so its totally doable. Just requires you to run around a lot. If you see any big mobs of enemies, go and take them out. You can push the enemy back as far back as those green highlighted points (where the balliste are) and then turn around and go help your other allies because those enemies in the green highlighted areas don't move. I've always found its easier to keep allies alive when your overall percentage (not the one in battle, but the one you see form the camp when selecting the stage) is higher. But you still kinda have to run around and prioritize big mobs of enemies first or they will **** your allies up. Also make use of your bodyguards. Sometimes sacrifice them if you have to, send them to points on the map where they'll cut off the enemy advance and stall them for a little while so you can get there and finish them off, if they have fire attack or ambush or poison trap, use those...at the very least enemies will lose some health before clashing with your other allies. It's pretty stupid... If anything, just don't take playable characters with you into battle. It's a lot less painful to lose generics ![]() But if you do lose a playable officer, just play the original Ambition Mode (talk to the guard) and you can get those characters back that way. Short, easy stages. |

I'm pretty sure these allies are useless because of the broken morale system, to even have your allies survive and make a dent on those enemies, you actually have to pull their weight for them and defeat enemy officers which increase your morale bar by a marginal value. |

They seem to be alright in most normal battles, just ambition mode they seem to drop like flies. I imagine Final Conflict at Wu Zhang Plains or w/e Wei side is pretty bad if you don't deal with the arbalests. I lost only one generic officer in that battle (he died in about the first minute) while playing as Pang De, almost died myself 3 times (initial part took off most of my health, Zhao Yun hit me with his musou attack, and a juggernaut dropped me down to like 2 percent life). The allied officers actually dealt with the juggernauts no problem. However in ambition mode, they just seem to get killed by the dumbest things. Mobile Captains? Really? Just a guess here, but maybe the game considers Mobile Unit Captains, Gatekeepers, and Unit Commanders to be full officers in Ambition mode. It would certainly explain why your allies get overwhelmed so easily. |

I don't understand why they'd classify Gatekeepers and Mobile Unit Captains as officers. Unit Commanders make sense since they replace generic and playable officers in Ambition Mode battles after you find all of the officers. |

Its been like that since vanilla version... though then we didnt have the issue of the officer leaving your service if they got defeated. At least AI is better in the story mode, i suppose thats gott count for something, right... RIGHT! haha |

Allied officers are so annoying. I mean.....you play ambition mode and you get a message from an officer saying he or she is in trouble and then 5 seconds later, they're gone. WTF?! Why do we get their trouble message like the last minute? It's so annoying.

LOL hee hee... too funny....

um it just ocured to me .. some of the senerios seem to favor one side, maybe thats why the officers are easily killed off.. or are you saying in every senerio? that happens? |

Ambition Mode in this game drives me absolutely nuts. I could probably say I hate it and not be exaggerating. Sadly, I don't think there is anything you can do to change this. Not that I've been able to find, anyway. I believe that they were trying to force you to have to strategize more because you actually have to worry about allies being defeated, but they did not balance it well here at all. If you're looking for a game with good AI on either side, I would not look here. Wenqian said it perfectly: in Ambition Mode, your allies drop like flies. You can't trust them to do anything right, they get taken out by generics, unit captains, mobile unit captains, and even just little groups of peons. Plus, very rarely do they ever take out anyone themselves. It's shameful... and because you can't order anyone besides your bodyguards around, you can't stop them from running into a giant mob and getting defeated almost instantly. You have to immediately run back and forth just trying to clear the way for them, but you often start the map being vulnerable from multiple sides that are too far apart. Sometimes, losing someone is unavoidable. And then you have to waste time doing a boring regular battle just to get them back. Ugh. I had a moment where I sent my bodyguard Cao Pi to use a poison attack on a base. Cao Pi: "It's too late to reconsider your decision to oppose me!" Cao Pi has used poison ambush (or whatever) 5 seconds later... Cao Pi has fled! What the ****!! I've noticed three major things that really don't help at all: 1) Your morale is always lower than the enemy's. Like, always. I don't know if it's just me, but even with 90% of the map taken over, I've never been able to get my morale higher than theirs. 2) When you've got multiple allies in one location, it seems as though damage just accumulates on one of them until they are defeated. It does not even out across them like it should. 3) There's so much dialogue backed up because of bases constantly getting taken over/falling and compliments that when someone is struggling, you don't get the memo until they're already dead! Seriously, I'm sorry for the rant, but this is the absolute worst I've ever seen allied AI fair in any Warriors game. |

well you are right and i don't blame you for ranting, but i know that this game is still fun and i don't really worry too much about the officers dieing . because body guards don't leave you after the battle is over should they die. however, if dw8empires ai leaves you.. i will be upset then!!!!! yes i will.. i agree losing officers stinks. i capture 3 officers but 5 of my officers were defeated, so i'll never have all 816 officers that way... hmm. there must be a way to not lose officers in a battle because, i ran 5 battles straight without losing a single officer. but i just ran around capturing bases and killing the sub generals and officers. to help the fact of not losing an officer of mines.. |
