I just beat Chapter 2. I groaned when Sakon showed up. Saw Kai show up with the DLC costume, at least. She's the first to show up.

Spoiler: click to toggle

So far I like this, it's as close to an Action RPG as a Warriors game has gotten lately.

Are any DLC available for this yet? Specifically, the drama outfits & Yukimura mount?

Watched a vid of the English version. Disappointed at the low effort translation I'm seeing which has become par the course for Koei... For example, Hojo Tsunashige was known as "Jio-Hachiman" (Hachiman is a Japanese god of archery and war and is like a guardian deity of Japan) in a similar vein as Kenshin is known as the incarnation of Bishamonten. But instead of translating it as something like "Earthly War Guardian" or "The Yellow Hachiman" they went with... "warrior in yellow."

Also "hime-sama" becoming "my lady" because Koei's translation team has no thesaurus and translates EVERY term referring to a superior as "my lady" or "my lord."

There are other instances of them using really... basic words or phrases that dumb down dialogue when the original Japanese is more, complex? Characterized? Something like that.

Huh, I remember Hanbei called Noh "hime-sama" and it was translated to 'princess' in SW4. Also, I think they switched back and forth between 'my lady' and 'princess' for when Kai called Hayakawa.

At least they actually kept Sanada Maru intact, no?

Was on the verge of buying this but one burning question:

Is everyone playable?

I read a review saying you only had a small handful of characters to play as but I thought the whole cast was in and you could paly them in already completed battles and side stories?

Everyone from the normal SW4 and 4-2 are Playable in this game with the addition of 5 new characters: Masayuki Sanada, Sasuke Sarutobi, Chacha, Hidetada Tokugawa, and Katsuyori Takeda.

the only character who is unfortunately not playable is Lady Muramatsu despite her rather Unique Design. So hopefully SW5 adds her when that game happens

So Everyone from Yukimura to Naomasa Ii is playable for this game. alot of them just require unlocking via some kind of item i forget the name of which you can give to some shopkeeper later on.

Everyone's playable, it's just a matter of figuring out how to unlock them.

Chapter 3 has a branch where you can play Noda-Fukushima as a bonus stage where you could use the likes of Nagamasa, but in the interests of the future I went with Takatora and Yoshitsugu because Future.

Because I raised friendships with them I can take Yukimura, Katsuyori, and Sakon around on adventures into the wilderness zones. Notably you can't do anything to improve Yukimura's weapon while he's a kid. Also notable that I wasn't given the opportunity to raise Friendship with Shingen for some reason even though he's the first playable partner.

At this point in the game, though... I don't feel as if this is one of those games where maxing-out everyone is worthwhile.

Since i new to how the friendship thing works in this. how do you increase your friendship with other characters, since i want to try taking others with me into wilderness zones but dont know if i just have to keep giving that specific character. gifts or if i also have to do something specific to raise bonds with that character

Once you talk to a character at a certain point you are prompted that you can give gifts to that character. Characters like certain things, and it's seemingly trial and error for what they like, but the game at least gives big hints as to what Yukimura and Nobuyuki want (Nobuyuki it's blatantly said he wants bamboo sticks and that's exactly what you give him). Filling up the bar all the way has that character give you gifts in return and certain ones become available for adventure (Nobuyuki for instance won't be available for this and neither will Muramatsu or Masayuki's brothers)

SW4 Empires should have gotten SoS's Castle Town system. so much better than the doll house.

so SoS.... say you unlock Chacha, can you play as Chacha for the rest of the game? or is progression forced and to unlock missions and progress further requires using specific character(s)? there's no free mode for all missions/the whole game?

it seems rather confusing. and it seems weird it sounds like battles have realtime day/night cycles but the castle town doesn't.

rejoice everyone!!!! this has a physical release! and a psn version. i have both because this game is very very rich in things to do! i love it!

graffics look very nice too. i think this game is the opening stages of what koeitecmo has in store for samurai warriors 5. we probably will see some of whats' in spirit of the sanada encorporated into sw5. but dont' quote me on that, i'm just thinking out loud.

yukimura and nobuyuki children remind me a lot of suikoden 2's joey and ryu. they are so cute as children.

I hate playing as Kid Yukimura. Up to Chapter 6 now.

Spoiler: click to toggle

Only word of advice I can give so far is DO NOT neglect using Kunoichi because she's very likely going to be with you for the rest of the game.

Magoichi so far is only featured in side stories (go figure), but he's just as good as in the other SW4 games so he's quite worth using.

huh? so Yukimura is forced until chapter 6?

well if there is one thing SW5 should adopt from SoS is the Castle Town system/design of the settlement, maybe even make the game open world like DW9, with more freedom to players to play as whoever and whatever they want,

Samurai Warriors 5 might include CAW just like SW4 and SW4 Empires.

As far as i am aware. None of the DLCS from Samurai Warriors 4, 4-2, or SW4: Empires are compatible with Spirit of Sanada. the only DLCS that are useable are ones you have to buy for Spirit of Sanada.

Such as the Pre-Order DLCS: Sanada themed costumes for Kai, Ina, Kunoichi, Chacha. and the lawson themed DLC for Kunoichi.

and while not available in the store yet also the NHK taiga drama DLCS for Tadakatsu, masayuki, Nobuyuki, Chacha, and Ina. as well as the Sanada Horse Mount and the DLC weapons (which have to be bought again).

You talk to the Shopkeeper and he has an option to Change Costumes.

Chapter 7 is LONG. The best news is you finally get Young Yukimura and Nobuyuki in this chapter.

Aya is playable in Tetorigawa, but you otherwise need to buy the characters above with Conchs since they aren't part of the Sanada main story (I don't think you need to buy Aya, but I'd have to make sure).

Characters bought with Conchs are only useable in 'Free Mode' (which is what the function to play the old missions is)

Started watching a playthrough and noticed that NPCs with CAW models are not from SW4E, I think I'm gonna remake them.

He's called "Shopkeeper". I don't know what else to say about that.

=====

Well I went and got Ina's weapon in Kurokoma and it was dirt easy (not quite a fresh character, but I didn't grind her levels or anything, just did the stage the first time for story, did another one as a dry run for the S-rank criteria, and the third run was on Hard and got it). The only things I suggest is run with Defensive items (guys hit hard in Hard, duh), but even that is unnecessary.

And all you really need to do is S-rank the mission in Hard mode. I A-ranked the Damage Taken criteria but got S in everything else so I got it anyway.

6 Hours+ into the game (I'm up to Chapter 4) and I had a good feeling about this game, Like I love this game The multi-stage battles are interesting, the Exploration Stages are fun and It ran smooth on the PC. Then out of boredom I checked the Steam Forums for the game and.....Holy there is Salt everywhere like a room full of it sadly i ran out of some popcorn reading some but its something i'm not going back to lol. Anyways I like the new weapon Masayuki Sanada has I think I may give that weapon to Eric (or Efrain) Lacarde if I do Another Castlevania Warriors.

Glad to see someone else is getting the game to run smooth on PC. I bought it even with seeing the mixed reviews, and was pleasantly surprised that despite what others were saying "barely running 30fps and struggling to get 45fps on low settings", I'm able to play 60fps on max.

Just goes to show someone else problem won't necessarily be yours as well. :D :2up:

Only in Chapter 2 right now. I'd be making faster progress, but I'm Let's Playing the game, and want to make sure I'm going into the battles as blind as possible. Makes my videos more interesting, I think.

Masayuki is a fun character to play as, I must say.
