Is it just me, or do I not understand the hate for this guy. Sure, he is a bit generic in style and story; but so was Stryker, Jerek, Kira, Kobra, Nightwolf, Darrius, Dairou, Taven. So I don't get why this guy in particular gets ragged on by Boon and NRS as well as many fans, when the others don't get that much hate. How is Hsu Hao less of an original character than Jerek? I was pretty good with him in the DA days. |

I disagree with the sentiment that Stryker or Nightwolf are generic, or particularly out of place in MK3. A lot of the stages are more contemporary locations and with the Cyborg Ninjas and other tech heavy kharacters, it sort of makes sense to have a guy with a gun. Here's my complaint about Hsu Hao, who is my least favorite kharacter in MK. He's big and slow, and not necessarily strong enough to make up for it, so he's not fun to play as. His heart-laser is a complete rip off from Kano. Absolutely nothing about him is in the least bit interesting from a story perspective. He's a waste of a kharacter slot, and my favorite thing about the MKX comic so far is that Scorpion murders him in the first issue. Those other generic kharacters you mention at least attempts to tell a story, or are enjoyable to play. Kira and Kobra have a rivalry going for them, Dairou is almost an evil Kung Lao, and Darrius is fighting a war against Hotaru. Even Jerek helps illustrate how the Black Dragon has fallen without Kano and Kabal. Hsu Hao is just a generic henchman for a new villain. He's basically Oddjob, without the class. |

As is right now, I agree with Alex. But I think any character can be reworked and treated better. Don't think of it as "Hsu Hao is inherently an awful character." Think of it as "the creators never really gave this character the attention he deserved." If he gets that attention in the future, then it's all worth it, right? |

I can see that the heart laser can be seen as a Kano rip-off, but Jarek actually shot lasers out of his eyes in MK4. He doesn't have lasers in his eyes and it made no sense. I see that Hsu Hao can be seen as generic, but to say he is more generic than someone like Jarek, who had all of Kano's moves and fatalities and even story, seems funny to me. Hsu Hao was fun to play as. His Sun-Moon weapons were really good and can do great combos. He also had a wrestling style with some grapples. He also helped established the Red Dragon so his story was a bit more unique. He had a stupid looking hat, but I liked that they tried to make him look Mongolian which was also never seen in a MK character. I understand why he isn't loved, but why they act like he is the bane of Mortal Kombat just eludes me. I mean Jarek is in my opinion the biggest rip-off and generic character, but he is not nearly as hated. PS....I was around for the MK3 hype. Stryker was really hated by the fans. Stryker love came later when nostalgia came forward. |

Hsu Hao is generic. He's original. He's actually a pretty solid character. He was one of the only Black Dragon members that was completely original besides the beam. He was voted best fatality in Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition, but also voted the most hated character even above meat and mokap. I only didn't like him because he's based off of one of history's tyrants that are offensive where I'm from. But everything else about him is pretty nice story, move, and fatality-wise. All just opinions from a bipolar population. |

I don't have any particular love for Jarek or Stryker, either. None of these guys are on my favorites list. But Mileena wasn't on my favorites list until the last MK, and she actually became part of my online rotation. I'm looking really forward to her in the new game. Sub-Zero was my favorite character until Deception, where they started making him a slower, defensive character. (Now that I'm thinking about it, it might have even started with Deadly Alliance.) It became much harder to take on the quick characters with him, and now I'm a Raiden fan. So is there hope for Hsu-Hao? Absolutely. My tastes change over time, particularly as the characters change and evolve. We shall see how the new game affects my favorites roster.

As my liked, if they bring him back at some point. I guess I'm already thinking about MK11, haha. |

Lol ed said that Mavado and Hsu Hao are gone for good. I don't care for Hsu Hao being gone but Mavado was my favorite in MKDA for a while so I'm pretty disappointed. |

But the question is why does NRS hate him so much. They never said Jarek is never coming back. They de-confirmed Mokap, but he was a joke character anyway. He wasn't created with a serious story and design in mind, but Hsu Hao was. So I'm curious that if they hated him so much, why was he added to the game in the first place. Was he created by the boss's kid or something, lol? |

I wonder if they sometimes just say things to win points with the fan base. "Oh, everybody hates Hsu Hao? Yeah, us too!" Like that makes any sense. You guys created him, lol. If you hate him, fix him! |

Seems pretty logical! Seeing as Ed did say they only put Tremor, Tanya, and Predator in because of such high demand. |

I think NRS did like him, but the response they got back was so negative they dropped him. Just like Nitara. Both Hsu Hao and Nitara got the lowest ratings (as new characters, not the absolute lowest overall) in Deadly Alliance, so they dropped both characters until Armageddon. Hopefully Nitara comes back some day though. |

In the MKA bio card, they pretty much said that they didn't want to bring him back, but they had to bring everybody. I thought that was a pretty odd thing to say at the time when they were hyping the game. You are supposed to say every character is fantastic and wonderful no matter if you believe it or not. I don't remember them saying anything really negative on the others. This is the video I'm talking about. [utube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcliNSYpLUk[/utube] |
