FLY AWAY TUTORIAL

Side note- I've been having problems with image quality so i started to make my blends really...big then downsize later...using a smaller canvas is fine.

Ingrid from RCR asked me for this and since rexxi wanted another tut and i've been working on this i figured i'd post it. Seeing that i'm not through with the icon tut.

Create new canvas size 800 x 1132 pxls

Fill with # d0d0d0

Get image gmale- which i got from (behance.net) and drag it to the center of your canvas

I used the top image of him so with the rectangular marquee tool draw a box around him.
When you get the marching ants hit

SHIFT CTRL I

To inverse select then hit delete

CTRL D
to deselect

With the rectangular marquee tool draw a large rectangle that splits the screen into to halves.

When you get marching ants

SHIFT CTRL C
Copy all layers

CTRL V
Paste

You wont see any difference until you
Set the layer style to Hard light

To make room for the moon image that we'll be adding in a second- we're going to get rid of the funk in funkfield

Get your polygon marquee tool and either on a new layer or on the same layer fill with the color of the background #d0d0d0
(if you choose to do it on the same layer use a brush and shade in the selection)

Quote:

TIP When going down the line, to get it straight and accurate hold down shift while clicking.

CTRL D
Deselect

Do the same for Field on the lighter side of the canvas but with the fill color of #ededed instead

Check if you're with me

Get moon stock and desaturate it

SHIFT CTRL U

Then Invert Color
CTRL I

Set layer style to Darken

What we want to do is cut the other half of the moon that's touching the darker side of the canvas.

SO

Once again get your rectangular marquee tool and draw a box around the darker side of the canvas then cut

Paste

then hide the layer (click the eye beside the thumbnail)

After you've done that you'll see that there are some stray lines from the moon picture that are on his face now.

Use the polygonal lasso tool to remove it.

Remember the layer that you hid?
reveal it by clicking the eye again

Piece it back together with it's other half so that it seems like an entire moon once again. but set layer style to overlay

What we want to do now is to cut out the moon- the left half.
Get your elliptical marquee tool and while holding down shift draw a circle to fit the size of the moon. You can then position it over the moon

SHIFT CTRL I
To inverse select then hit delete
Quote:

For those having difficulty getting the circle to fit the moon exactly
Create a new layer and fill that layer with a color that stands out – pink green it doesn’t matter.
Lower that layer’s opacity so that you can see through it then resize by holding down SHIFT and ALT
Hit enter
CTRL CLICK the thumbnail of the green circle’s layer
Then go to the layer of the half moon (left)
SHIFT CTRL I
Hit delete

CTRL D
To deselect

Now to add a strip of film.
Get film strip and drag it to your canvas and set to darken
Because we’ve set it to darken and the main subject (G) is line art we don’t have to be too neat in cleaning up
So using whatever method you’re comfortable with- clean up ‘G’
I used the pen tool.
Use the pic below as reference

Posted Image
Create a new layer and fill with #79e22c
Set to Color Burn
With a soft eraser size 862 with Flow 61%
Click the center of the canvas

Posted Image
Now for the little design of a plug around the moon created by mio =]
Drag rental to the canvas and position it over the second planet.

TIME FOR TEXT see we’re almost there
There’re two ways to do this.
Get your pen tool
Hold shift and click from the bottom of the Soddfunk[sp]? to the bottom of the canvas then
Type whatever text you feel in Arial Narrow color #00000 black
Or
Type whatever text you feel in Arial Narrow color #00000 black
Then click the center of the control and in the angle section type 90
Press enter
CLICK FOR REFERENCE
Where the black text is hard to see change to white

nice job robin- what you could do though to make the cut on trey's arm not look so sharp you can get a soft brush and erase around the sharp edges <3 otherwise looking good

@ Rexxi
ermm just make a new layer and try and cover it how you normally would- you can use a hard brush or whatever works for you- all i wanted to do was hide it.

When I drag the design by mio to my canvas, it has a black background.
Am I supposed to change the setting or did I do something wrong?

Whoops. I just scrolled this post and realized you already addressed that issue. Sorry about that.

Anyhow, I did it.
My trouble is that I always try to experiment with images before I do the tutorial once through beforehand.
I didn't make that mistake this time, so it's essentially the same thing.
