MESCUDI REFLECTION VECTOR TUTORIAL Made For PS CS3 Made In PS CS3 Resources Mescudi a simple pen tut by melissa After two weeks I’m just posting the third tut- and yet again it isn’t the layout tut…maybe this Saturday- I just finished my CCNA chap3 exam so I have a bit of free time between a few requests. This is the tut most people are interested in anyway so without further ado here’s the Mescudi Reflection Vector Tutorial note that it’s not detailed- but it’s really easy seeing that it’s black and white :]
Ensure that your pen tool has these settings- we’re going to be working with shapes more so than paths. PEN TOOL SETTINGS FOR SHAPES: ![]() STEP 1 Open Mescudi
Image>> Adjustments >> Posterize Level : 4 O.K. ![]() The higher the level the greater the detail this will now be used as our palette to see what colors to use where. Basically we’re going to smoothen out this picture by drawing rounded shapes with the pen tool, giving the rough edges a more refined look. STEP 2 Now I’ve found that trying to use the eyedropper tool on the adjustment layer gives no results so we’re going to make a merged copy. Hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard then click on the original picture of mescudi then without releasing the CTRL button Click on the layer that has the Posterized effect. OR If you’re already on the posterized layer (if not- get on it) Hold down the SHIFT button on your keyboard and click on the Mescudi layer below it. Now that both layers are highlighted Right click >> Merge Layers Now we can start choosing colors. THE BASE Get Your eyedropper tool from your toolbar and click on the lightest grey on his face.
In this case the base color used was #aaaaaa Get your pen tool and with the settings for a shape tool take your time(using the zig zag method or the click and drag method to curve your path and outline his entire head.
![]() As you go around kid’s head you won’t be able to really see what you’re doing unless you lower the opacity of the shape you’re making. To do this lower the fill or opacity until you can see through the shape and see Kid’s head- You can always increase the opacity when you’re through. After you’ve outlined his head hide the layer (click the eye beside the thumbnail of the shape in your layer window. ) Now we can move on to the next layer # 555555 ![]() Get your eyedropper tool and click on the next shade that is darker than the base layer (#555555) now go back and get your pen tool. HOLD ON THOUGH before you start to draw you’re going to see that not all the darker grey areas are connected you can’t just draw a single shape. You’re going to have to draw more than one shape to get the different areas. No need to fear folks. Go and adjust your pen tool settings – set it so that you can add to that same shape layer . HERE”S THE BREAKDOWN Now you can reveal the layer you hid earlier to view how you’re vector is shaping up…it should look something like this ![]() NOW TO ADD THE BLACK WE’LL TREAT IT AS WE DID THE GREY AND DARKER GREY LAYERS. ![]() Get your pen tool and just do basic zig zags outlining the black areas make sure you don’t close the path Now we can go back and adjust the sharp angles. For the waves in his hair or any smooth curve that you want Go to the anchor point that you wish to edit. While holding down the ALT button on your keyboard click and drag until it curves in a manner you like. If it still doesn’t look just right hold the CTRL button on your keyboard and pull at one of the arms until it curves the way you like Sometimes you find that the path just won’t curve to your liking – you should have added an extra anchor point- to do this just click on the path. Okay so I didn’t really walk through the black text because really it’s all about technique so check this tutorial if you need extra pen tool help for adding say….curved lines. It’s for paths /beams but the idea is the same in shaping. Just practice to hold down Ctr OR ALTl when adjusting a shape THEN ADD BACKGROUND AND TEXT :] EXTRA HELP FOR PATHS- CURVED LINES ALSO KNOWN AS BEAMS ![]() 4 u bm24cd FIN |
