"From the realms below we ride, And in terror they run and hide, From the shadows of old we rise, Awakened, from the dark! Over the ancient ruins we fly, Where the old kings go to die, And the new kingdoms rising high, Awakened, from the dark, dark slumber!" | |

Well, I think really Telv just caused a universe ending paradox in that he only discovered elves can't be bards from a book he was only able to read because he cast a bard spell. |

I seem to recall that 2nd ed. made it painful to cross-class too. There's a lot of 2nd ed restrictions I don't miss. Anyone else remember THAC0? |

psh. thac0 was an upgrade. you should have seen the crap we had to deal with in 1st edition. and don't even get me started on what took to actually become a bard there. |

I do miss the lore though. The rulebooks usually felt immersive, not just boring stat books that really told nothing about the game itself

They didn't really replace Thac0, they just reversed the numbers by making AC positive instead of negative. Otherwise, everything works almost exactly the same. And multi-classing was really the reason I switched editions. Although... amusingly, I still don't own a 3rd Ed. Player's Handbook. If I need one, I pull out the NWN2 manuals. (I know the rules are a little different, but I mostly like the changes better anyway) Then again, since I've fallen into running a d20 based rule system I've homebrewed, I guess the point is moot anyway. |
