So, thought about making a lighthearted poll to check current situation of general orientation of players choices for picking, have made this earlier, but there's quite some time since I last time made it.

Needs to be multiple choice. I've played just about every type of character since joining Sigil, including one you missed:

Bloody Useless (character who is of little use in combat and spends most of his time lying down on the job). :P
Stepped down as admin, but still lurking.

In doubt, just pick what's your most preferred one, since most plays that the most anyway.

Useless one also fits to the previously mentioned ones, but really just fails miserably :P and for useless character I'd really suggest taking entirely new approach to combat, if you get killed in current style, you're just doing something wrong :P

Heavy duty Bruiser... most of my characters are hardcore melee builds for a reason ^_^
"From the realms below we ride,
And in terror they run and hide,
From the shadows of old we rise,
Awakened, from the dark!

Over the ancient ruins we fly,
Where the old kings go to die,
And the new kingdoms rising high,
Awakened, from the dark, dark slumber!"

My Archer does more damage than any other build, heals better than any other build, and is a more responsible buffer for the party than any other build of mine.

Nerf Archers.

This isn't 'which types to nerf' thread. To be honest, I couldn't really care much at all. You say something is imbalanced, I say good and give thumbs up. like so, just to magnify my indifference to the balance questions.

Also I'd dare to say that your archer is more likely a cleric or favored soul (possibly both) in which case being archer is hardly an issue, but actually most of the capability comes from the magic. (like say... healing... buffing... most prominent damage ;P) so in-case this was a nerf thread, it'd just lead me back to 'cleric/favored soul spell list is the first'.

Oh no Otyugh, I wasn't being serious. A lot of my comments are not meant to be taken seriously unless I decide to spend more than a sentence on them.

And yes, the archer is a Favored Soul. Wisdom can be eschewed because the only offensive spell that a Favored Soul would want to use is Word of Faith. I don't know if the cleric spell list is overpowered. There are more defensive spells than wiz/sorcs but that's in keeping with the spirit of the class. Offensive casting, the wiz/sorcs are clearly superior.

As for the healing aspect, it has more to do with how I view the battlefield as an archer. I shy away from being swung on and because I don't get mobbed very often, it's easier for me to pay attention to the health of my fellow party members.

My cleric, though he has healing spells, is usually in the thick of the fight. And that means he needs to be, ah, more selfish with his healing. Of course I'll get withering comments once in awhile when a party member dies, especially from my rl friends who I've abused in the past for not being responsible about healing and it's their turn to zing me about it.

My characters usually focus on using magic to make others/themselves killing machines.

My main character uses a good mix of several of those options, being a warlock/fighter build. But if I had to choose one, I'd throw her in the flanker category. She definitely uses a bit of the freezer and hoser tactics though, depending on who she's fighting.

I think the problem is alot of characters can fill multiple roles effectively in themselves expecially clerics. Like An'toko I would officially call a Bruiser, Buffer, and freezer or your BBF Best buddy forever. some others Like Ambushers can also simultainiously be an Archer, a stealth character that reliese on sneak range attacks Ie your assassin.

I think it should be more is your character designed to go Toe to Toe with a group of of monsters IE Tank, Go Toe to Toe with a Single big baddie, your brute, To deal as much damage as possible before you half to go toe toe, your ambushers, archers, and burners and flankers, to make the baddies life as miserable as possible and ineffective Crowd Controllers, and debuffers, Or to directly keep your Party alive and live as long as possible through the fight your Buffers and healers.

MrO, care to give us an example of what Blocker, Hoser and Freezer should be?:P

Blocker: Character which basically uses all kinds of talents to prevent fleeing.. knock downs, stunning fists and other such 'real talents rather than item based circumstancial matters'. Monks often can belong to this category since with their speed the ensure that nothing flees from them, and get knock down and stunning fist freely.

Freezer: Similar to blocker, though more dominant in spellcasting. Spells/abilities a freezer would use: Bigbys, paralysis, solipsism, stuns, fears.

Hoser: Characters whose spells/abilities are less about direct damage and death, but rather weakening the foes. Poisons, diseases, curses, blindness, level drains, ability drains are the common types.
