I belive Cookie might know the location of that portal!

We ran to the sounds of the thunder.
We danced among the lightning bolts,
and tore the world asunder.

It was not meant to be taken as insult as I do not insult anyone, all I want is that players play their own characters during events and let the DMs handle the NPCs and reveal what they want to playerbase rather than making presumptions that your characters allies should know everything. It is much more firm than my usual approach, but when you keep hearing time and time again about the same thing, I will take different approach to the subject until the message goes through.

I have not said any names in the announcement, and still will not. Considering the quantity of players that have such groups, if you think I'm pointing my fingers at you, or your group of NPCs, there is high odds that you're wrong, unless you find yourself doing what was mentioned in the post.

Now back to school for me and I won't be checking forums for next 10-13 hours due to it.

More or less the same situation with me. Nobody is being directly catagorised by my statement, even if you think its "you" it isnt. Its everyone thats somewhat guilty of taking advantage of this particular problem and if it percists, greater actions will be taken to prevent it happening again.

That said, these days such problems aernt that frequent, so it isnt to bad. But they do happen and when they do, its dissapointing for everyone, not just the DM's.

So be very considerate of others, Involve them, thats the only real way your gonna get information, ask other players to give it you.

Gain a "real" power-base, instead of pretending to have one.

F.A.Q

Someone else is doing better than me?
- Competition is natural you want power you have to fight for it or earn it through blood, sweat and tears.

I dont want PvP my way to the top?
- You dont have to, set up a monster hunter guild, a trade league, join a faction and activly promote interest in its adventures.

What if someone wants to compete with me?
- Find a middle ground, or just let bygons be bygons and recruit on your side while they do the same. DM's take no favourates so you'll unlikely see us loving anyone greater or lesser.

Anyway, thats all for now.

I reffer to the infamous ANGEL SUMMONER scenerio.  In which a player literally just lets their NPC's take care of EVERYTHING rather than being involved at all.

I'm not going to reply on every part of this thread. I will only say that DM's should use their players "advantages" against them at every chance. For the example above I would just have:

"We'll take care of this, you can go back to Khazeets to have a drink." Then just end the event. Should atleast make the PC's think "damn we're dumbasses"

And to rub it in, you can have the npc return the day after and tell about the epic adventure, and the amazing rewards he found, and announce he's not going to be the PC's servant anymore.

I will add one caveat to all this with regards to players and NPCs. We often say to players something like "Why not generate your own stories and adventures and involve other players"

However, without DM powers its very difficult to whip up extra characters to flesh out your stories. If you have a second computer and a second set of CD-keys then you can do this to some extent. Alternately, you can jump in and out of the game with different PCs, run them to where they need to be, while everyone waits for your next "NPC" to arrive, etc.

So, if you are making an event as a player, i think a little lattitude with regards to dreaming up NPCs can be allowed, just as long as they are used only for flavour and advancing the story. Not for the greater glory of your character... which, if you are running your own event, shouldn't even be a consideration. The event should be for the greater glory of those you involve.

I maybe a little naive as I don't seem to be apart of many events, but is this really a problem on this server? Do people honestly do this?

Quite often Neli. The biggest problem is that people take power for granted. You worked with a goddess in the past now you think they owe you a favour.

The truth is, they dont.

They owe you what they desire to give. And the NPC's you send to do a job for you, will either fail miserbly or act accordingly to advance the PC's side of the plot. They will likley die.

Huh. Well, that sucks. I guess I can see how that thing can get carried away. When presented with a problem it might seem reasonable to say, "Oh, well, I made contacts in a past event who know about this exact topic. Could I go to them for advice?"

But if your getting people who want the NPCs to solve the problems presented for them completely and utterly, than that's pretty lame.

I RP someone of influence who has NPCs under them, so I might be in danger of fall into this category, but it never occurred to me to do something like "Hey, Hildmor, I got 4000 NPC guards now, and they are going to attack you. Sux to be you". To me, the whole purpose is to create RP, not create shortcuts, right? I'd never send a NPC to do something a PC could be doing.

That'd be actually the most stupid thing to do ;)

*Coughs* Don't Dm's have an insta-kill button?
Suddenly, out of nowhere, fifty arrows come down on (Insert name of the man who is being a pest) striking a line down his body and he splits in two.. his said 'companions' loot his body fow every penny and leave him to rot...The End.

I like my way
Why should pirates work for FedEx? They have the fastest ships in the shipping business.

How could the pirate acquire the ship so cheaply? Because it was on sail.

What has 12 arms, 12 legs and 12 eyes? A dozen pirates.

Arrr!

The DM lapses gravity.

A Cosmic Rock falls from the planar heavens and phases into the present area, and collides with all the NPCs.

Everybody dies.

Puts on shades.

Duck yeah.

We try and be more subtle than insta-kill if at all possible.

However, i do think all that needs to be said has been said, so unless someone else desperately wants to contribute to this it may be time to let it die.

Little gratefuls offered yet, as this lord of shovels returns the spin...

Forsooth.
No man was ever killed while doing the dishes. -Anon.
When you cry, I cry. When you laugh, I laugh. When you fall off a cliff, I laugh harder.
Tell the truth. Then run.
