Can elementals be made to drop the appropriate essences? Ice for ice, earth for earth? |

This suggestion, interesting but just cause a spirit is made of fire doesn't mean when it dies or leaves the plane behind it leaves behind fire essence. Or same with any other element. An elemental, when it is "killed" it returns to it's plane leaving nothing of itself behind, not even some shred you might try to call an essence. |

As much as I would like to see more essences available, I have to agree with the fact that elementals simply disappear, returning home, much like an outsider would do when slain, or banished. If they were holding items created entirely on the plane they stood on, I would think it is DM's discretion as to whether or not those items remain, or go with them. I would say they remain, but that's just me. |

Aren't they already on their home planes? And I assume some part of ice could be distilled into water. |

Elemental Plane of Water Elemental Plane of Fire Elemental Plane of Earth Elemental Plane of Air If it isn't one of those four ... it's not a true elemental plane, and therefore no chance at an essence. As for the denizens of those planes, only the elementals themselves would have even the smallest percentage for a drop. For example, on the Earth Plane, no mephits, or wolverines, or umberhulks, or dao, or dwarves, or whatever else might be there. Only elementals. |

Plenty of creatures reside the elemental planes, not just elementals themselves, and I was talking about the Ice Plane, and Earth Plane respectively. If they're actually called something else I didn't realize. |

Are we going to start talking about the semi-elemental plane of ranch dressing soon? Isn't this all a bit of a moot conversation? What about power essences then? Where to get fire essences from? No fire elementals except for the NPC in under sigil. What about air essences? No air elementals. |

What's funny is that the concept of distilling essences isn't even part of core D&D; it's a videogame workaround to bypass the PnP requirement of spending one day per 1,000 in value of enchantment to actually make a magic weapon. So it's not as if there's canon lore as to what can and cannot generate an essence. Perhaps in the near future we'll have more monsters dropping distillable parts when killed, but for now just remember not to sell those frost giant heads, golem parts, and demon bloods. |

Is there a list of creature items that can be distilled for SCoD? because the lists i find are for general nwn2 SoZ and MoB but for instance the faerie dust doesn't work . |
