Do events make heroes, or do heroes make events? Think of it in everyday life, and in history, and then post your thoughts. Thanks! |

We know who really makes heroes. |

By and large, I think events make heroes. When I think of something heroic, it is typically an action in response to an event outside the hero's control. You might be brave, resourceful, and selfless, but you're not a hero until there's a burning orphanage or a wounded buddy under enemy fire. Saying this another way, I think that there a lot of people who would respond heroically to a situation given the opportunity, but who never face such an event in their lives. (This is rather paradoxic in that I also think that most people are selfish to the extreme.) Conversely, the number of heroes in the world is vanishingly small. I'm not a coward, I've just never been tested I'd like to think that if I was I would pass Look at the tested and think there but for the grace go I 'might be a coward I'm afraid of what I might find out Never had to knock on wood But I know someone who has Which makes me wonder if i could, It makes me wonder if I Never had to knock on wood And I'm glad I haven't yet Because I'm sure it isn't good That's the impression that I get The Mighty Mighty Bosstones |

Both. Making events lets people realize that they are proactively trying to inspire and do good. Being part of events lets people recognize their talents. |

Neither, the people make the hero. If the heros made the events or even if the events made the hero then we would see fire fighters starting building fires everywhere just to rush in and save the people inside to become heros. The word "hero" is a title given by society it is not something one calls themself but what they are called by others when the one in question is brought into the public light. Anyone who creates events and takes place in them to become a hero is an attention seeker, and someone who calls themself a hero because they happened to be in the right place at the right time to do something "good" is also an attention seeker and a show boat and even then it wouldnt be they who threw the word hero out, it would be the onlookers who saw said event. Edit-Further more the word hero has almost no value these days if you ask me. Is someone heroic because they do what they are paid to do? I have the utmost respect for law enforcment, fire fighters but are they heros? Absolutly not you cant be a hero for doing something your paid to do, cause if thats the case then hell Im a heroic cook at my job!. IMHO, are there such things as heros? With the way we sling the word hero around, being called a hero has no value so...no no there isnt but are there heroic deeds? Abso-friggen-lutely. How does the saying go? "Its not who you are that defines you, its what you do". |

Villians cause shit for heroes to fix. Then Heroes get killed by new villians. And the cycle continues. |

True in many cases. Villains make heroes, in cases where there are no real villains, "events" make heroes. |

As it's been said, the people make the hero. A Hero to some, is a villain to others... and vice versa. It is simply how one is viewed by others that makes him a hero. In Game (because I hate discussing RL things on a fantasy site), a Harmonium might be a Hero to many people but reviled by many more... where as his nemesis is a Hero to many but reviled by the rest. Neither of them need even ask nor try for, the title. It's simply a matter of view. |

Rob, the question is like "what was first to be, an egg or a chicken". WWW and you are using abit different definition of word "hero". But you're right in that regard, it's just a somewhat different question really... |
