What, why?! Why would you live in Russia?! They don't drink tea with milk! They use lemons and vodka! :sleepy:

Exactly. Their standard cure for cold is Vodka with Red Peppers.

Besides, Russian has some of the best looking women in the world (except Moscow. Moscow is way behind the rest of the country in terms of attractive females).

Would it be too vulgar if I say something like,"well you get what you pay for, in Moskow?"

You cant go wrong with any book by Raymond E Feist. He does politics, war, intrigue, romance and magic soo well, and he is a master of continuity.

Start with his very first book about midkemia, Magician:Apprentice, followed by Magician:Master, then read Silver Thorn and a Darkness At Sethanon, once you read through his opening legacy if you like fantasy settings i can guarantee youll be hooked.

IF your looking for abit of a modern tale with a drop of fantasy try his book Faerie Tale.

If you want something raw and gritty and something to make you think, if you dont mind controversy and a very very very adult subject try michale critions Disclosure. Its about a man who works for a software company whos life hits a serious legal and political speed bump when his boss is replaced with an old aquaintance.

IF you want something else fantasy try the Avatar Series from the Forgotten realms book.

Its about the time of troubles, on faerun when the gods were banished from the heavens and made to walk the earth as mortals. The book details the lives of three humans who ascend to god hood, Midnight who becomes Mystria, Kelemvor who becomes the judge of the dead and cyric who becomes the god of murder strife and bad assness.

I play:
Miranda Ildesserin-"You have no idea what fear is, the greatest fear a mother can have is that of her child growing up...alone"
Eisinar Mindblade: Illithid Soul Knife: "As long as I have my mind, i am never with out a weapon".
Xil'ar'ran'oss-Beholder Psion:What do you mean "IF" looks could kill?

Jarlz Bergh -- Ogre WeaponMaster
Yew're Kiddunmeigh -- Elven Light Bow of Solonor

I can't really recommend much due to my tastes in books, but I can break them down into a list of sorts.

Safe/Somewhat safe around your kids.
Ray Bradbury - Something Wicked This Way Comes ((Really good story. Its horror but more along the lines of goosebumps type of horror if I remember correctly. Been a long time since I have read it.))
H.G. Wells - War of the worlds/The Time Machine ((War of the worlds might push it into PG13 at times.))
Star wars (at least the ones based off of the movies. New Jedi Order... I refuse to classify as G/PG.)

Books that would not be good round the kids, but they are good reads.

G.R.R.M - ASoIaF (('game of thrones'. Books are much better than the shows. The shows arent bad either. There are also a few novellas? That detail Maester Aemon's Past.))
G.R.R.M - Wild Cards series ((Think of a very dark and twisted version of Heroes/X-Men. Interesting series all around.))
China Mieville - Perdido Street Station. ((A cross of steampunk and 'weird horror'. Its an underrated read, but it does take quite a bit to get used to to to his style and what is exactly happening in the book.))
Sword of Truth Series ((Id actually classify it in the middle ground. I forget who wrote it. ))
Star Wars: New Jedi Order ((This particular starwars series is a love it or hate it depending on who you ask. And I put this particular star wars series in this category simply because of how brutal the Yuuzhan Vong are. (Personally id love to see an attempted animation or movie series depecting the New jedi Order era))
Characters
-Moriarcis: Lvl 20 Necromancer
-Ordethus: Lvl 20 (21) Telepath Warlock/Alienist
-Orionis: Lvl 8 Dirge of Tiamat
-Zaed Nahalis: Lvl 28 Hextorite Blademaster
-Skor Addamar: Lvl 22 Ex-Collector
-Ven: Lvl 9 (10) Old School Assassin
-Vai'aian: Lvl 18 (20) Zerth Monk

For Starwars I'd recommend the Darth Bane series, it's good to see baddies actually succeed.

For other books, well it had been already mentioned : anything Jack Vance, be it Dying Earth or Lyonesse its a good if not excellent reading for sure.

David Gemmel's are also on my favourites, as is the Witcher series.
- Kala Ta'Kan : Factor of the Beleivers of the Source
- Ash (Kazuko Yudeoshi)
- Safana Washedan
- and many other alts.

For child-friendly fantasy stories, I always fall back on older classics.

The Wind in the Willows is a good book to start with, especially with a five year old. It's not exceptionally fantastic, besides the talking animals, but it holds up well.
I would also suggest any of the Winnie the Pooh books for fluffy adventures, but adventures nonetheless.
Most of the children's books by Roald Dahl are fantastical in some fashion. I'm thinking specifically of The Witches and The Big Friendly Giant, for spellcasting and a variation on what is used as a standard monster in most of its appearances, but most of his works are very good. They tend to be a bit short for a long trip, though.
Also, there's an unabridged audiobook of Peter Pan read by Tim Curry. He does a wonderful Captain Hook. Also there's sword fights and flying!
There's many others of this sort I could recommend, but that's what I can think of right now.

For more recent works, I'd suggest The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett. It's the first children's book he wrote, and it's quite entertaining.
Current characters:
Quite a few actually

Unfortunately Cyrillic letters don't work on my computer, so all I saw was a jumbled mess of vowels with various accent marks over top of them.
As for the books, well... Afraid I can't really help you there. Can't think of many children fantasy stories off the top of my head.

Why do we bother?

You all know that in the end, Ravel is just going to make up his own stories, consisting of the adventures of a big-nosed swan-girl in the City of Doors.
We rode on the winds of the rising storm,
We ran to the sounds of the thunder.
We danced among the lightning bolts,
and tore the world asunder.

Why wouldn't they be?

Are you kidding? Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles...

It's funny because it's all there.

It has all the necessary elements: wicked step-sister, a guardian angel, a couple of evil dragons, an entire multiverse of wise-cracking sidekicks, talking animals (I might need to clean up Moocher's dialogue a little, but maybe not even that!)

There are jailbreaks, a magical sword, people who are Not What They Seem. No princesses yet (how did that happen?!) but there are a few dwarves.

There are angels, broken curses, and adventures that never go off quite as planned. There are trips to heaven. Betrayal by the person she trusted. There are people who make an appearance early on, only to become important muc, much later...

Pen's story, except for one night at the claws of Marfedelomsjach woud be wonderful fare for a series of children's books.
