Could we get a stickied list of the EMs and their player names? I keep seeing EM's log in and have no idea who they are, don't recognize the EM log in names, if their characters are a part of any RP I'm doing or if they have characters involved in the plotline we're doing. It would simplify things greatly if we had a list with the Players and their EM log in names for us "non-EM's". Thanks |

Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

Many EMs and DMs deliberately do this to avoid a constant stream of Tells during their playtime from players asking questions about events. i.e. "When are you going to run the next part?" As an EM I know for a fact that this "Tell Stream" exists and is very annoying - however I personally prefer to address player's questions and shrug off the annoyance factor. It's no secret that I'm EM The Real and I never intend to obfuscate my EM identity, but for those EMs who don't share my philosophy anonymity is their best friend. So maybe it would be more appropriate to ask those EMs who are willing to provide their identities and aliases to do so, while not requiring a formal register. |

I prefer to know who I'm dealing with when interacting with EM's (and even DM's). Plotlines wind and twist through various characters and I'd like to know if the EM I'm dealing with has a character caught up in the plotline he's EMing and the plotlines of my characters. If such information cannot be given I would prefer that any EM who is unwilling to share such info with me doesn't interact with me as EM and merely keeps the relationship character to character. Thanks |

EMs have the right to anonymity just like DMs. Some will be quickly figured out just from how they chat or what they do. And we have no static list of EMs. Mr_O periodically cleanses the list of inactive EMs (unlike DMs the EM list is a lot more volatile). Therefore it would require constant updating. Just accept that EMs come and go and if they wish to reveal their identities, then that is up to them. |

In that case. Request denied. Well, ok, its up to Mr_O since he is captain of the forums and the individual EMs if they want to be known. |

As far as I'm concerned you can ask the EM or DM for their identity, if reply is unsatisfactory for you, then you can remain away of their events, not that you couldn't before already not gonna start a policy of "identify to this player before making event" it's minor issue that can be done on the flow. And wouldn't call myself captain of the forums ![]() In worst case scenario if you just don't know whom to contact, I can forward a message to EM in question. |

I am EM MagicMan, my login for the game is the same as my login for the forum, i have no problem with people knowing who i am, it makes it easier for me to answer questions about my events, and easier for people to contact me, "hey WWW i was in your mysterious event about the Cube, i liked how you handeled it and i had fun, ive been toying with an idea for a wacky event involving X and Y, heres what im thinking, would you be willing to help me give life to the story?". That being said, if any of my characters are invovled in plotlines with PCs, i actually try and shy away from those particiular pcs, i dont prohibit them from getting involved in my events but i try and make sure said event has little as possible to do with the said plotline between my characters and theirs. This cuts down on "clichs" and cries of "favoritism", and you will almost never ever see me use my own characters in one of my events, UNLESS i decide to retire that character perminantly and turn him into an npc, in which case i always delete from from my personal vault and he forever more exists on that server as an npc. Thats enough of that though, what follows IS JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION ON A MINDFRAME STATED IN THIS POST AND IS NOT AN ATTACK ON ANYONE INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP OF PEOPLE. Im not trying to sound...harsh when i say this but that kind of stance is very abrasive and unhealthy for players and for the EMS/DMs that are involved. As an EM, i can safely say Im going to try and avoid plot lines focused on any specific plotline because of the fact that, as stated there are so many twists and turns its hard to follow. Generally my events will not be connected to any one character(s) plot lines in a catered manner. I will of course acknowledge plotlines if im aware they exist but by no means will that have an impact on whos in my events or who i interact with. Ive seen the OP's stance a hundred times on many servers, Im not calling out the OP for his comment, I'm simply stateing my personal opinion that that mindset is unhealthy and destructive. Look at this way. Player:Hey can i get in on your event?. EM/DM:Sorry i dont know who you are or any of your characters so no you cant. This situation almost always results in hurt feelings and a quickly terminated DM/EM for poor conduct as a worse case scenario, but baring that consequence that DM/EM will certainly alienate him/herself with the community. IF EMs/DM dont care who plays who or what their plotlines are when planning an event why should a player care who the EM/DM running an event is?. If a DM/EM does it he hurts himself and the community, and if a player does it they hurt themself and the community and misses out on the potential for unseen character advancment. Its a lose lose situation with the player (in my opinion) with the most to lose. Im not saying EMS/DMS dont need to keep player driven plotlines in mind, far from it, they absolutely have to or the player behind the char sometimes feels like his character has been ignored. IF the EM/DM knows one of the players is a xaositect and ones a hardhead and they have a known rivalry the EM/DM should at least be prepaired for corresponding roleplay, but that in no way means they should change the event. If a player feels like he has the right to know who the dm/em is because of any involment potential with his characters plotlines, then surely anyone can ask a player what his characters know about what ever plotline both characters are involved in?. Generally, its been my experience that players with this mind set (and im not saying this is hte case here) players with the mind frame in question are thinking "if the em/dm has no characters invovled in my plotlines that i know of i dont want to deal with them" its kind of self centered and as i said harmful to both players, characters and the staff (includieng EMS). Again, im not calling anyone out, these are just my opinions. |
