Because only fire and water elementals really have subtypes that gives weakness iirc... air and earth are instead more archetypes of dexterity and strength/constitution... they aren't just identical mirror copies of eachother, each are unique creatures really, which is why it's kinda iffy to introduce new features when making a new class of elemental creatures... |

Actually, while the opposition is pointed out that way for Fire/Water, I was reading deeper online about the traditional elemental explaination, at least by "western" philosophy. The opposition didn't always mean they were weak or strong. In the fire water opposition, fire and water could effect each other, it was a vulnerabilty. In the case of the Air Earth opposition, it was rather they couldn't effect each other, instead of vulnerabilty. Earth quite literally could not lay a finger on a creature made of it's opposite, air... and by logic, acid wouldn't bother air. And yes, Air could not effect earth, electricity simply grounds out on earth, utterly inable to actually do damage. That acutally is how it's reflected. Opposition means there will be some sort of effect, but again, it's not the same as Fire/Water. One opposition was sort of dominant, energetic - the other passive, a lack of interaction. This meant elemental cycle had the following effects basically - Fire, vulnerable to Water(Cold). Water (Ice), vulnerable to Fire(heat). Earth, Immune to Air (Electricity). Air, Immune to Earth (Acid). Of course, the eastren philosophy of elements starts dealing with five or more elements, including wood I think... not what's reflected in DnD though. |

In the Manual of the Planes, under the section about optional planes, it does mention the Elemental Plane of Wood. As for changes, well, it appears logic doesn't come into it much anyway according to SRD or any philosophy. Therefore in a poor attempt to balance the forms i simply went with aligned immunity and opposition weakness. If its not liked, can consider changing it. |
