A Shadow bully is someone that uses scare tactics to make someone afraid aka: The shadow in your closet when you were a kid. They prey on a persons fear to bully them assuring they wont overcome the issue because they're too afraid to challange it. The solution is to simply give them no power, by bringing the shadow into light. Meaning: if someone bullies you in any way or form, tell a DM, dont be ashamed, dont feel a snitch. They are there to assure your fun isnt interupted, not to give some favoured player their right to piss on you. That kinda behaviour, im pretty sure the DM team does not approve of. |

Naa, screw that. Work it out among yourselves or don't play together. The only thing that ever comes of getting DMs involved is that people get arbitrary punishments which just leave them feeling resentful of one another and of the staff. |

Or it causes people to quit and blame DMs for not doing their job while never telling them anything happened. Most cases I get into are simple discussion, I for one have nothing to prove and if they're more mindful that's fine by me. So preferably don't make us look villains out of blue or by judging other servers DM behavior ![]() If anything we don't approve vigilante behavior since that tends to lead to worst outrage. If you want to handle it, talk as one player to another without expecting that they can read your mind. If it becomes a rules breach then it's DM matter. |

Having been on SCoD for forever and ever, the server is quite different from what I remember. It's quite a bit more dynamic. It has quite a bit going on, and people are venturing out of the usual hangout to do their own thing. With change comes what we of the old vanguard would call 'damn whippersnappers'. We have to remember to take a step back and understand that we might've seemed like giant assholes once upon a blue moon as well - we learned the ways and eventually integrated ourselves into the server, however. So, be patient. Always remember that people can't read your thoughts. If RP you're experiencing is not what you enjoy, make sure to pass the word onto the person in question in a friendly, respectful tell to inform them of that. |

Fair point Otyugh ^^ I mean, normally I just try and stay out of drama or settle it before it grows out of control. In my experience, it's usually a matter of angry words and when the anger dies down you realise you're both nice enough people and you can work out your differences. |

I agree definitely, talking it through before it escalates solves a lot. Most cases really I get is that players haven't talked with each other and jump to conclusions without talking with one another. Or to put it in form of classical quote "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." |

My impression is that majority of issues emanate from the same few people for the most part. It is also my experience that in the vast majority of cases, it only takes a few minutes OOCly to clear up any problems. Finally, it helps to keep in mind at all times that you are not your PC. When something bad happens to your toon, it is happening to them, not to you. I'm not saying that you shouldn't be angry, or sad, or scared or indignant... Part of the fun of the game is sharing in your toon's triumphs and tribulations. But when you reach a point where distinguishing the two becomes difficult it's time for a break. |

((Yes, it may seem like I am being an ass about it, but I assure you I am not. And yes there is plenty of my form of sarcasm in here.)) Hmm could give potential victims of being offended a heads up on some things. Certain characters ICly can be offensive simply due to personality. I will say it in regards to myself, if any of my characters piss you off that badly, explain why. I am the sort to easily think its just a way some people use to get out of RP consequences they don't want to be in, meaning I really would prefer a player to be straight up honest with me and explain their reasoning truthfully. If you can explain it I will switch characters, but I won't change how the character that offended you behaves otherwise (unless there is a good IC reason for it. It can ruin some interesting character concepts by changing a characters personality and mannerisms for no justifiable IC reason. It doesn't mean I wont give an alert in game.) As for the other part of my alert, I will list characters of mine that have the potential to offend. Orionis: He is a lunatic of a bard to the degree bleakers and Xaositects can be. Meaning you can expect just about anything from him, from flinging feces, to singing about a rapist, to everywhere else. Daevos: He is a pirate, he is offensively crude, sexist to hell, as well as wanting to nail just about everything that moves. He usually is only of the offensively crude variety but given the situation, he can be much worse. He could be summed up as a combo of Troll, FapFap, and Dolan Meme among others. Ven: Assassin, Spy, Interrogator. He is usually subtle beyond all reason, but his manner of interrogation can easily offend (no holds barred torture if necessary). He is also a Diehard Bureaucrat, which could really piss some people off. Moriarcis: Doesn't get offensive to players much IMO. Zaed: Psychological Torture is what he can inflict, so some potential for offending people there. Other stuff... its kept behind the scenes Ordethus: Really hard to offend a player with him... so far. Vai'aian: Can't really offend people with him IMO. Well, other than he has a tendency to react to situations in a way which can easily lead to PvP if I am not careful. Skor: Can't really dislike a retired collector. He is probably the character of mine aside from Mori and Ven who have the most refines mannerisms. |

Personally, I don't mind how offensive or hostile someone is IC because I've thankfully seen only a few players who have real issues distinguishing between IC and OOC aggression. When there is an OOC conflict, though, I've found that it can usually be resolved with simplicity and civility if the parties at odds keep their egos in check. When you have two parties with irrepressible egos, that's when (often recurring) problems arise. |

Couldn't of said it any better. Yet its still good to mention certain things, because there are always a few individuals who would get their panties in a bunch. Maybe not here, but I have seen more than a few people go berserk over such things as the colour black itself is racist, even though that is just the name for a complete lack of colour in art terms. Or even better yet, look at the Reps and Democrats go at eachothers throats when they are all but a bunch of puppets and the followers sheep... |
