A little thing here that, ive been told I needed to deal with so I will, without being angsty or aggressive to either party but heres the issue okay? The server im told needs work to get it back on its feet so im more than happy to do some player driven events for players, by players with the interest of player enjoyment. Things that "dont" require DM's to get involved with. Now heres the problem: DM's have on this server, of late, become a crux more than an aid (some EM's to no names being given here). The problem is that interactivity is being stomped on before it can have a chance to grow. I totally get that the DM's love to have their super powered chars show a cameo because being DM's its fun to make powerful chars with stories the players can interact with. But for gods sake, give the players a chance to do something too. If you want server development you have to be open enough to let it develop on its own. If you dont even give people that chance then nothing fun will come of it "nothing". Everyone will feel miserable, the DM will feel upset because the players felt they were being overpowered, the players will feel upset because the DM stopped doing events. So let the players handle player events from now on and maybe announce one or two of them yourselves that might be interesting. Were players, we can handle ourselves if you give us a chance, and for those that act like asses well theres a saying for them: If you dont join the club get the <<I like teddy bears>> out of it. Does that mean segregated community? No, It means people will have prefferences and you cant mix everyones together. Let the little social groups work on their own little events, be it the PvPers forming a big arena event or a blood war oriented tanar vs baatezu conflict or the pvers forming a discovery quest for the sacred scrolls of some great higher planes deity. Dont interfere, dont interject, because it will piss off the people your trying to get to do things themselves. This isnt an angst message, its a pointed common sense warning. If you interfere with events your only going to make them less fun for everyone and most of all your going to give the server a bad name. So let us work, let us develop our little groups, our little sects, and ignore them if your twitching with fury at what we do. Only interject when something short of god being killed happens, or something that involves serious canon changing events. And that does not mean interject when you see something about to happen, only when it "DOES" happen. Be relaxed, I was told the DM's on this server wont be hard asses, then dont be, let us play and you worry about the way we behave when were playing. This is not a bash at the DM team, its a suggestion if not a pointed comment on what they alegedly want "us" to do. Now, for the Players: Its time to get off your arses and start doing something, and when I say doing something I dont mean another generic run at the abyss. Its time to get creative and start making some player events, and not events aimed at glorifying your char, or showing off what you can do, but events that indulge others into them, engage us all into your story. Give us control over things, but direct the general flow like a conductor who adapts to the sudden twist one of his musicians has in adding a new beat to the tune. A few tips on making a player driven event: Forum RP: - Forum RP is a good source of player DMed events because its easy to do, its easy to have more control over something when you can just write it so dont be ashamed its not a bad form to rp this way. PvP: Not my thing, but some love it and if they love it why not create an event around it, build up two groups or more against each other and level up together to get ready for that big skull-bashing at the end of it. PvE: Enviromental events are hard because its really about the momentary adventure, but its not impossible. You can make a story of an enviroment every time. It links into your over all arcing plot, maybe theres a sinister set of elemental crystals that need to be captured across the planes and taken to say, mercuria, to be stored away safley, or sold to the nine hells to be given high profit. Get, creative, but more importantly, get other people involved in it. They want to develop their chars as much as you do yours, so help them as they help you, and everyone wins! Start doing something. I can easily get this whole ball started for some of you, but I know a few of you, what we call, engagers like myself, have the capacity to do more. Lets keep doing more, lets give the DM's a break from their jobs and lets take the real influence into our own hands. Lets get some Faction events going social or pve, or pvp. As a challange, each of you has to make an event that brings at least 2-3 people (not necessarily people you know, bonus if they are random people you dont) together to achieve something with your character. Remember, the decisions made should be up to their chars and not yours, but if you must dictate events, give them a chance to make choice based decisions to develop their chars. Dont be shy, give it a go, its easy once your into it, and fun when you do it right! C'mon guys, we can all try to be engagers at least once, give it a go this week. If you succeed you'll be doing this server a favour, and ill recommend everyone that did a faction oriented event at least 5 faction points for your faction (five points for griffondawr!) Come on, give it a go, step right up and put your foot in the legacy that will be the city of doors player base. |

How about... NO. *cough* Besides that, those are some pretty good suggestions, I have to admit. |

I think that it's a horrible idea to tell the DMs to leave the players alone and do whatever they want. It's also contradictory to come and object to DMs being around but not doing enough and then telling them to go away and let us have our fun. I want to see DMs doing more events and I put EMs in the same category because I see no real difference between the two in practice. As always I object to the idea of getting faction wars and a bunch of pvp going, killing factols, gods, whatever. It's crazy and I see no enjoyment in the server if that comes about. |

and +1 about sums it up for me. Especially recalling a poll I saw awhile aback of how people "like random events" or how just recently everyone was saying "we need more events." Just a tiny bit ironic, don't you think? I said players on playerside need to step up to the plate on this too, yes, but I think both sides should. Not just one. |

We need a story to tell, get everyone on the server on the same page but something that starts small from many angles and has every possible group finding their angle and place in it before they get the clues to make the links themselves leading into a potential bigger server story. There are some downward spirals of one thing affecting another and DM's and players all just not bothering anymore but I think perhaps we need to all make a fresh start. A promise from both sides. |

This whole thread is a little strange to me. I know i've not been online for a few weeks, but i can't believe things are like CaptV portrays or that they have changed so much in such a short time. Ill be online within the next few days, and i'm looking forward to it, i believe things will be pretty much business as usual. Azul may have it half right. Sure, some players and DMs may be on a downer at the moment, but hey, we all have our moments. I'm sure there will be some fresh blood around though to interact with. So if there are jaded players stood around Khazeets doing nothing or just grumbling about how things were better in the old days then ill just take my ass to another area and find those who are doing stuff.
