And yet we still have flat earthers and geocentric lunatics running about. My own hairdresser claims we never landed on the moon because leaving the earth's magnetic field would kill us instantly or something. Now I wonder which big supercorporation will be the first to plant their trademark on Mars. National flags? Who are we kidding... |

It's still the Moon set from whoever's basement. They just put a red filter over the lens.

It's a moot point since we're all living in the Matrix anyways.

Yea, but flat earthers and geocentrists are just religious nuts who take biblical nonsense over reality because they think they'll get a reward for it after they're dead. People who deny moon landings do so for a different reason, namely they don't understand how it's possible and, because they can't conceive of it, they must deny it. They do try to research it, but they don't type into google 'moon landing science', they type in 'moon landing fake?', as they still don't actually believe it's real and they're trying to validate their own position; they research from a point of initial bias. Likewise, such people will be quick to dismiss anything that goes against their position because they aren't really looking for accurate answers, they just don't want to be wrong, which ironically makes them incapable of being right. |

Interestingly, and only peripherally on topic... A few years ago, we went to Houston to visit my cousin, whose husband works at NASA. (He did Space Shuttle Navigation. His seat was in the front row, far left.) ![]() One Saturday, he took us for a tour of NASA. It was amazing. We never signed in with security. He just walked around and showed us everything. We got to actually go into the Apollo control room and through the rooms and pools where the astronauts trained. It was unreal the way we just walked around and went into places where you think there would be ultra high-tech security everywhere. Anyway, during the visit, the shuttle was actually docked with the international space station. They were in the process of using a camera on the cargo bay arm to check the underside of the shuttle for heat shield damage. Scott took us into the actual Space Station control room while this was going on. ![]() Just to set the scene... It was a late summer day in Houston, so it was upwards of 100 degrees outside. We had stopped at 7-11 to grab some drinks, and we were basically dressed in shorts, t-shirts, and flip-slops. The room looks...well...like a NASA control room. There are people working very quietly, with computers everywhere and huge screens at the front of the room showing live feeds from the shuttle and station. So there we are, just a bunch of bumpkins who have no business at all being there in the first place. We're standing in the back of the room of actual Space Station Control Room while a live mission is going on. We're holding Big Gulps and wearing what most people would wear to Taco Bell, and Edward Weiler the Director of NASA walks in. We were just inside the room, pretty much completely blocking the door, and he said to us in this meek-as-can-be voice, "Excuse me, folks." Then he just slipped by us and left us standing there! Probably the most "Did-that-just-happen?" moment of my life. By the way, neither of those pictures are mine... Just googled 'em to show where I meant. |
