I've finally moved from Nw1 to Nw2, mostly because of this server. After beating my head against the monitor, I figured out I needed the client extender to do Gamespys' job for them. I started the game using the extender, and logged onto the server. All was going well, until I received an error (empty reply from server for clothtex.hak). It informed me it was making a second attempt, and that's when things went south. The D/L speed went from about 270 KB/s slowly down to... *checks progress* 52 KB/s, and it's still dropping. Is this normal behavior for the downloader? Is there a file I can d/l from Nwvault? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your help. Now if you'll excuse me, I should go back to beating my head against a wall. |

Didn't get the cloth error but I do have the low download speed issue. Best bet is to just let it run while you sleep. |

Patience is all we can advise. Download speeds can vary depending on location and time of day etc, but the ADL servers are provided for free so can't always expect top rate download speeds. Don't worry though, we don't update the big HAKs often, its a pain you shouldn't have to ensure often. Look forward to seeing you in game... eventually |

*shakes a fist and tosses my old 2400 baud modem at them for complaining at download speed* (and no I don't have anything constructive to add I'm afraid) |

To tell you the truth, I was getting dangerously close to 56k speeds for a few moments. In the event someone else finds themselves in the same situation, and is in need of reassurance that it will all be ok, here is what one might be able to expect using the auto-download feature from (I made a few brief searches on these forums and couldn't find to much information on this process, and what I did find was scattered throughout multiple threads.) First, since game-spy no longer supports NwN2 download this, and unpack it into your install folder. There's a readme that can explain the rest better than I. Now, connect to Sigil COD (in the role play section) as you would any other server. Then grab a book, get comfortable, and let the auto-downloader do its thing. Impatient, need to know how much longer? It took me about 3 hours. It would have been 1 1/2 hours but one file in particular (SCoD2_clothtex.hak) downloaded at 48KB/s. As soon as that file finished, I went right back to my regular top speed. There are 14 files you have to download, totaling about 4 GB. Trust me, it's worth the wait. |

I have a theory (which I haven't confirmed) that basicly when the ADL sets up filedownload between mirrors it spreads the files randomly between the two mirrors, so that everyone will download clothtex from the italian ftp for instance... this ofcourse violates any resemblance even to mirroring, so I've thus far not dared conclude it's this silly... but I'm still gathering evidence that it might be... (it also means that if any of the two mirrors goes down, ADL will fail heh) Might get a good increase in speed if I remove the mirror then... ironically... |

Worth a shot, I could always copy the haks over to my external and test it. |

I don't remember there being a particular limit to the number of mirrors you could configure. The downloader XML file just lists a series of locations that files can be downloaded from, and the client tries to get them from each mirror in order, should a prior mirror be unavailable (if I remember). Listing the fastest mirrors first is best. It is also not required to host all of the files in the same place. Individual files (for example, if you use a standardized hak that many other modules use) can be downloaded from a different source than your main mirror with your module specific content. One use for this is to link the common hak downloads from nwvault and mirror the per module contents in your locally managed mirror. http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=NWN2T...s.Detail&id=118 has a pretty thorough description of the setup in the toolset admin guide. |

Yeah I remember looking into doing some of the hosting on nwvault, but they atleast at that point had some restrictions on using ftp and large file sizes, so that to put in a large file I'd have to upload it to some drop directory and have them move it to the correct place... But good to hear the ADL isn't quite as stupid as I thought... but it still seems to act weirdly with one fast and one slow mirror... |

I don't think that it will try and pick a faster mirror. It assumes that either you order the mirrors based on your preference or don't have one mirror that is dramatically slower. Plenty of other filesharing sites (e.g. dropbox, SkyDrive) could be used, especially for the content that doesn't get updated as often and tends to be larger, e.g. haks. |

Well as it is now, dropbox is our main dl site (our secondary mirror is a ftp server in italy) |
