so, i have always saw not many dwarves on scod, i know of course of some, and at times there's a very few around even uptoday, still there seems not to be a spread dwarven culture or background to support a valiant presence of them, either in scod, or planescape in general, duno. so, is just ignorance of lore, or difficult of design, or it lacks a planar vision about them, or simply they are disliked, or they don't get enough ground where to dig into in sigil? anyone has suggestions and hints about this? or advices about how to design nice planar/planeswalker dwarves or how to give them proper support in sigil? |

Part of the problem is that they have very few customization options, and they aren't as powerful a race as the races that use the half-orc model, which people overlook their lack of options due to how powerful some of them are. If there were more customization options, or just more dwarf races that are useful, they'd get more use, though neither of them are easy solutions. |

Too many to list! So here are the ones I play a lot lately. Barrakasra - Wraith? Bard Kandra Blackhand - Humanish Monk of the Twin Oaks Z'ssadra Tharress - Pureblood Green Scholar Sskrassk - Lizardfolk Fiend Hunter

I have no problem playing races such as dwarves due to stats/racial bonuses. Dwarves are eminently playable. The main problem is playing a dwarf that after 5 mins of RP doesn't become a sterotypical gruff beer swilling axe-wielding maniac with a scottish accent. I did try once, but fell into this trap within minutes. |

Even in play by post RP, I've played dwarves that fell into the same trap, and immediately became boring. A failure on my own part, certainly, but the truth none the less. |

You would think rooting for Darwin in EMS would be tricky. It's not.

... I find it more interesting that other people expect you to play a dwarf like that. Once played a softspoken, tea drinking dwarf following Ilmater on another server and it was quite fun. |

uhmmm, okay, let's try this: which planes dwarves (whatever the subrace is) can come from? so it is not just ''primes'' |

Presumably all? I mean, everyone seems to have a mythos for the stouter folk, and, I suspect it's because dwarfism is an actual medical condition. So... you have these shorter, stockier looking people you really can't explain otherwise, and, for want of medical knowledge at the time, you get a new myth! (I also have a theory about elves being based around Marfan's Syndrome) Edit: I meant to add - I once read an idea about a place where dwarves were a nomadic, desert race. I think that'd be a fun one to RP. |

The dwarfish Pantheon is at home on Celestia. Example:
That said I feel dwarves are more at home at the lawful outer planes according to their often rather lawful nature. I can also see them get along well with the lawful denizens of the inner planes like Dao (earth) and Efreeti (fire). |

Most Primes have dwarves, although there are some variations. Athas comes to mind as a plane that has non-typical dwarves (and just about every race for that matter... cannibal halflings anyone?). As for outer planes, they can be found on quite a few. Lawful planes for sure, but also there are Dwarves on the Ysgardian plane of Nidavellir (something that doesn't quite follow original Norse mythology as Norse Dwarves (Dverger) are closer to humans or elf sometimes being associated with the Dark Elves ( Svartalfar). |

Dirty/smelly, xenophopic, hairy, stubborn, hate of pointy ears, smithing, mines and tough... all the things that makes a dwarf, now that you know them, do something that's exactly opposite and make it dwarf species and you'll have your out of the norm dwarf ![]() Or if you want something more exotic, look up Derros. |

Brogar is happy to be an oddity. This happiness he gets vicariously through me. Identifying with character too much? Maybe. But fun nonetheless ![]() EDIT BTW, might request a Derro. Thanx Mr. O for the idea. Looks very weird, yet overtly playable. |
