Spam or not, I don't hate it with a passion- and I think 1 email is an idea worth trying.
Yep, we can ask players to do this too. |

In isolation, I don't think an e-mail would do a ton, but I think paired with a week-long event/population push, I really do think we'd see some net gains. |

You would think rooting for Darwin in EMS would be tricky. It's not.

If... and this is a big if, because I agree with Otyugh for the most part.. but IF we were to go the e-mail route, I think it would be best served to coincide with a major event (such as the carnival and perhaps a DM or EM committing to run a major server-wide multi-night campaign), as well as outlaying the improvements and additions made over the past year, so those who have been gone for a while might see these as impetus to return. Speaking personally, however, I wouldn't even bother to read emails coming from servers I don't play on. |

Speaking from what i do quick. I dont think there's a weekly or even monthly newsletter out there that hasn't met a quick end in my spam folder. I know a lot of others do the same. So while not a negative thing, i dont see effects being anything but minimal. |

That email thing doesn't sound that bad. Plus I've love to know the improvements as well. Worst case? Some folks move it to junkmail, best case, some folks return. The folks moving it along to the junk aren't coming back anyways so I'm not seeing a negative here. Add in facts about updates and possibly a fun campaign, well it's starting to sound like an email I might want. Lords knows I'd love to get an email telling me things that are fun rather than just another in broken english stating how badly beautiful Russian women are seeking north american husbands.(Don't bother looking it up, it's rather costly, I checked.) |

Attracting new people will only go so far if we don't offer a rp enviorment they wish to stay in. Sigil are more challanging than many other settings. More lore, more outlandish and confusing especially at start if you ain't familiar with planescape. Getting started from scratch will take time. Being outside of the closely knit buddy gangs can be intimidating. I'll be honest the feeling I was getting when starting on the server was -These guys don't want me here. So instead of interacting with others I pretty much made some shitty attempt at entertaining myself through grinding and anti-social rp. A mistake of course. We need rp that involves new people that makes them want to take part in it. And I am talking longterm and not the usual chat over a drink at Khazeets. There are so many ways this could be done. Think we need to move away from the traditional closed group rp to a more open and inviting. Don't know if it made any sense but a few thoughts of mine. |

Agreed, Sigil is more challenging, but the beauty is (if people understand this), is that you can turn up as a clueless berk and take it from there. Even some experienced and lore knowledgeable players do this from time to time because its fun to play a clueless. As for the in-groups of players ("close knit buddy gangs" as you put it), its unfortunately probably due to playerbase and not malicious. I don't know when you started playing, but when we did have a high pop, it was no problem finding people to interact with. However, at the moment, due to the low population, the RPers tend to be following their own plots together, and often in houses or other out of the way locations, so even though you see 4 or 5 people on, you may be lucky to find a single person in the bazaar. Our current crop of die-hard players i know all to be good RPers and also more than willing to involve other people, but the perception is probably not like that to an outsider. Only two things can really be done: 1) Speak up. Let people know you are willing to get involved. Send a tell to a couple of people online letting them know that you have nothing to do and if they are not up to anything too secret, would they be willing to RP or grind. At worst you will get a reply of "Sorry, busy" 2) Regular players: If you are in RP and population is low, and you see someone unfamiliar log on, or even a familiar name, why not give them a shout? Half of you (or more!) are EMs, so extend a hand and try and involve them. |

Level difference is one of the biggest issues new players face, because unconciously neither side feels equal unless they're roughly the same competence in power... yes, it is sad, but it's also true until you'll start to accept to get beaten by significantly weaker or lower level. It also contributes to inability to make "friends" or closer relations as they tend to go to separate ways... again one of my beefs with traditional levels. Which really means a campaign to bring new and old characters closer to each other withoutone feeling out of place or insignificant. Mainly really establishing new characters to become in par of already established sorts, glory and story under the belly. |

Some of you may have heard of the recent death of ToA, so there is a chance that some players from there come to check out Sigil. I know of at least 3 ex-sigil players who were on ToA, so they may return. So, as i said, EMs/DMs especially, but regular players as well, extend a welcoming hand to new/returning players, involve them, make them feel at home. This is the best thing we can do for the server. PS: As an aside, please do not use this thread - better still, don't use this forum (unless via PM) - to discuss the death of ToA. Quite a bit of mudslinging going on over that, rather not have that discussion here. Its a sad unfortunate thing when a NWN2 PW dies, let's focus on the positive rather than the negative. |

This is actually something that can be solved without the need for a DM or EM. A former player who I won't name actually was rather well-known for some time for greeting just about every player ID he wasn't familiar with; I can't tell you how many times I dragged in a "secret" ID to get a "Welcome to Sigil! If you have any questions I'm happy to give you some OOC help", which while mildly annoying when he would pause to explain some bit of Sigil lore that I'd based entire plots on, was actually something that, at the time, made me very secure in the health of our server (this was during one of the 30+ every night times). And for some reason, having it come from a player instead of a "I'm doing this but only because I'd feel guilty not doing it" greeting from a DM, or for that matter thunderous silence. |

Coming from an ex-sigil player who most likely won't return, the reason I left was because of the players and not the staff or lack of rp. There was plenty of rp to be had and events seemed to be rolling around much more often after the EM's came about, but I really couldn't stand many of the players. After most of those I had gotten along with there was really no use playing with people who didn't enjoy my company or vice versa. Many of the more inviting players had left and those that were left already were involved in their own cliques and storylines with little help needed from the newbs. Throw your tomatoes at me and boo and hiss but this has been the case with multiple players I chatted with on a regular occasion, just my two cents. Sigil is a large city and it's a bit overwhelming at first even without the thirtieth level stuck up snobs looking down at you for barely being able to make it through undersigil Nonetheless this topic has beaten senseless even when I played and with the total number of players even playing nwn2 anymore dwindling it will take the entire server, however many of you are left who play on a regular occasion, making a full blown effort to bring back players. I play on Das 2 and enjoy it because the players are friendly, the storyline is ongoing as I play and is affected by players. All the while that I've played on Sigil the entire time I noticed little to no changes on the overall status of the world, there were no wars that affected the city, there were no big political moves that would change the city, nothing on a large scale happened that would change how people had to handle themselves. I could care less about a one week event, it's something that will change how people are forced to play on Sigil for months that will bring me back, and I'm sure many others as well. Many of you are going to ignore this because I wrote it or respond with the cliche, "We can't change anything because that doesn't happen in the lore" but to me lore was written to be changed and added on to. Like or dislike what I wrote it is one players honest opinion and respecting a players opinion is right where gaining players starts from, whether they've played since the beginning or only for a matter of hours. |

Why should pirates work for FedEx? They have the fastest ships in the shipping business. How could the pirate acquire the ship so cheaply? Because it was on sail. What has 12 arms, 12 legs and 12 eyes? A dozen pirates. Arrr!

That sucks, man. Everybody I've even bumped into has been welcoming, introducing Morasraug to the PC population has been an ease and a blast. I don't really recognise any of the current playerbase, but they aren't being dicks to me about it. |
| Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run, but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant. | |

Opinions are welcome, always nice to hear why people have left the server as it can give a different point of view But you can still have some rotten tomatoes!

because while one, everything sends one once in a while and as a whole it becomes one of the generic spam stuff. I'd instead suggest players sending their own friends they'd want to see back a message asking how are they and if they'd be interested to get back. People don't want to hear the BS from "people" telling how awesome their "product" is, because everyone tells it and everyone knows it's a total lie, they want to hear opinions of actual users
