Ah yes, there is of course the thing about what people do in private, but isn't it possible to make player houses not private, same as with the generic houses? Sure it can have magic keys if it's a wizard's abode, but those can be dispelled. And normal locks can be picked, that sort of thing. Just like things kept in the house wouldn't be safe from burglars.

The thing I liked most about the idea is that people get to design their houses themselves. Or that it opens up the RP opportunities between a client and a carpenter/ mason ((builder)).

I never really liked the unpickable locked doors myself, I always found them to be a break from the general RP feeling. Not that I ever played a rogue, but it would be fun to try :P

Would also be fun to be a carpenter or mason ^^

Feel free to design and submit your own areas. No guarantee we will include of course and if it is uploaded it will not be exclusively yours.

What we have generally found is that people want new locations but when push comes to shove they are not willing to learn how to do it or put in the time to make it. Therefore they have to use whatever is available.

In your suggestion, who do you believe will spend the hours required in the toolset to build you your exclusive home?

Well, I guess it wasn't very clear, but I would definitely like playing a carpenter/ mason/ home designer :)

It would be fun both to build the apartments/ houses, as well as RPing with the people who are on the lookout for apartments/ houses.

That said, the idea is that people build their own places, if they don't use someone who is ICly a builder, so they could get the place they wanted. Within the limitations of their rent, of course... Like... 1 000 jink per week or month or whatever is settled on would get you an area of 3x3 (which would be 1x1 when the walls was in). And 10 000 would get you an area of maybe 5x3 and so on, with a set amount of placeables and such and such.

There'd be an NPC to pay rent to, so no DM should have to check up on rent. Then if rent is not paid, the NPC can send a message to who ever is in charge of the apartments/ houses, and the area can be removed or rented to someone else.

And as I said in my first post, I'd be more than willing to do what I can to make it happen, so it doesn't take time away from other builders working on larger projects, as long as nobody minds me asking stupid questions in the process <.<

No problems with stupid questions ;-) we all had to ask them at some point.

I have a thread here for people to ask questions about building/scripting so feel free to ask.

Your idea about playing an architect or capenter is a nice one. At the moment though cant say whether we can agree to your idea of rent. We still come back to the point of no lockable doors...and did i understand you right when you mentioned being able to store things? This raises an old topic we had ways back about allowing persistent chests like diablo or other games have.

Final decision on that was no as i recall.

Well, the doors can just not be lockable, or they can be pickable? I'm not a fan of magically unlockable doors in common houses... Seems very unlikely that someone who lives in a cardboard box in the Hive can afford a something that would make his cardboard box unenterable by anybody :P

I'm not sure though why rent is a bad idea? It's a way for people to have a natural flow in their money, so everybody doesn't end up being millionaires? Though, I can see as someone who doesn't go adventuring much, that it might be difficult in the long run for a heavy RP server... Hmm... Could just have the rent being something easily manageable?

As for storing things, no, that is not a must. Would just be fun to have something generate in the houses for burglars :)

And speaking of other threads, is this a bad place to have this conversation? Should I have put it somewhere else?

Wwrw generally not hard asses about topics going off topic. If we think something needs moving we will either tell you or just split the topic.

We do have a forum though for ideas and suggestions where you can akways propose such things.

*grins* I like the idea of building it... I guess we should form some kind of partnership... I can give you the lay of the land, and you bring me a cut of the booty ;P

I can't seem to find the thread with the building and scripting questions, and search is apparently not functioning as intended (I would imagine... Unless the error page is a feature <.<).

Do you think I could have some linkage?

However the thread im referring to is still on the first page. Hmmmm. Perhaps i should sticky it.

Hey, new player here (Been about a month).

Your server is great. You can tell from the moment you log in a lot of love has went into it. The one thing I'd say is maybe intimidating new players is how you're plopped down with no direction and left to your own devices at the start. This is great for experienced players, because you explore Sigil and have fun. Other popular servers like Baldur's Gate have a sort of opening "quest" leading into things, giving players a sense of direction to get started , and I think this would really help acclimate new arrivals. That or NPC touts (like the old man upstairs in the foul olde spirit, but more accessible at the start).

Because Sigil is strange. That's it's best trait, but it can be very confusing starting off.

It can be, Mander. After years away I found it intimidating as hell with almost no pcs I recognized. Only Troldepus the kobold and lastnight, Animal of the Big Drum have logged in.

I have been sending tells to players whose names I have not seen log in before to say hello and let them know that if they need anything I, or anyone else would be happy to help them. If you ever need a hand let me know on Aur or Montacca, Delthene or Ran bao. I enjoyed running through Brux with you yesterday on your giant.

We have a tout made and conversation written, Mander.

Here's why it isn't in yet:

:D

I keep telling myself I am going to try to do it, then I look at that thread and think, "I'd much rather play!"

I'm a terrible person! <.<
