Ravel and I had a little conversation, and that led me to thinking about cosplaying the Lady of Pain.

To begin, I would like sources of official TSR illustrations of the Lady of Pain, preferably in color.

- Lucia Lyricia - "One good shot is better than peppering five bad shots."

From an actual sourcebook cover:

Dragon magazine cover:

Funny thing: there's hundreds of pictures out there, many of whom were done for official TSR stuff, and in almost none of them does she look exactly the same twice. I'd think the important part is to get the head right and everything else will fall into place.

We ran to the sounds of the thunder.
We danced among the lightning bolts,
and tore the world asunder.

Mind you, although it is called "The Lady..." the gender isn't really known. So likely you'll find pictures that slaps the head on a perfect female model body and outfit, in reality it'd be a lot more hazy appearances. I suppose androgynous would be the word for it, where lorewise folks just decided to call it a 'her' without knowing.

That's because "The It of Pain" sounds much less threatening.
You would think rooting for Darwin in EMS would be tricky.

It's not.

The head is the iconic part, IMO, a rather androgyneous face surrounded by all this blades (like the logo on the PS Campaign setting). The rest are just wide robes or a wide gown or whatever.

I remember her basic description in the campaign setting gave her almost ghostlike qualities, appearing somewhere, floating through the street, never interacting with anything (except to flay an annoying berk approching her) and then vanishing again.

i'd say how she's presented in planescape torment is optimal?
Maewind:''That's still plant-hating! That makes you a plant racist!''

Lucelle Vand'hovar: ''Miss Maewind, i assure you, the plants started this conflict.''

Nienna: ''Razorvine is hardly a plant, in her defense.''

After showing that video to my colleague that has a welder, he said, and I quote, "dooo ittttt".

The dress/robe isn't going to be too difficult to do; the hard part is definitely going to be the headpiece, as I've never done much metalworking of that scale (most of what I know how to do is for jewelry).

Metal can get heavy fast. How using some plastics and metallic colour for the finish?

You'd need a frigging bull-neck to hold that up if it were actual metal. That or some kind of full-body harness with an iron rod up your back so your head wouldn't be supporting all of its weight...

...which would certainly be wildly kinky.

Yeah.

I wonder if a chest harness would be enough. If the weight is on the shoulders it should work. However I cannot see the head moving much...

I would definitely need metal for at least the structural parts of the headpiece, and I haven't really figured out how I would do the bracing.

As for the blades (and nonstructural parts) on the headpiece, I would need wood or plastic in order to pass the weapons/prop check at most conventions.

Perhaps check out some load bearing harnesses for inspiration?

How about letting the head piece rest on your shoulders only, leaving your head free to turn?
