Dungeon Master
The New Character Bweek
(nope, that's not a typo, that's just finglish)

Original topic: http://z13.invisionfree.com/nwn2planescape...?showtopic=8619

When? Starting from today, 21st of december lasting all the way to 4th of january.

As you may notice, this is somewhat of a re-announcement. Since the other one was for some reason not placed in announcement section despite being one! But hey, this here is the more official one to say that "Yes. It has now started."

Those of whom reads about this for the first time, it's a period when we encourage everyone to make new characters under new identities and explore new options. And what better time than the primary gifting period around which most holidays are set? As it turns out plenty better times, hence one week seemed unsuitable. What's better than one week? Two weeks! Or as I've incorrectly dubbed it, a bweek!

Yes, we pardon the post haste of the implementation as it can take time, effort and imagination to design new characters. And it feels cruel to set it this way without any aid or ideas to use to get on with, and to such extent I'll introduce the Pathfinder background generator. I found it quite impressive, and it may give you some ideas you'll enjoy. And to give a few pointers to make things more exciting:Now comes the reason why you should do it; Feel like there are stagnant PCs around frequently either in bar or parked to be AFK? Best way to get away of this feel is by having more fresh faces around with fresh and yet unruined idealistic point of view of things they might achieve until the inevitable cynicism of experience steps back in. Be excited, reflect enthusiasm as a player even if your character lacks it, try new things, form bonds with folks you've never met before, take daring actions and challenge the mundanity.

Couple tiny bits worth keeping in mind:
  • - Try avoiding your normal account. This is a great chance to not get stuck with the same couple players you're always stuck with anyway.

    - Do not take shortcuts. You'll only spoil it to yourself if you take all the shortcuts to gain great items, experiences and the likes. Make the path to the end an enjoyable and compelling story, it is an oversubscribed term, but it is not wrong in any way. It is for an outsider far more compelling to interact with someone that has great vision, but lacks the capability to achieve it... instead of someone whom can do it and shrug at them since they don't really need to react to it.

    - Try making a character unlike any you've made so far. Hate some specific type of class, yet have never really made them? Maybe it's time to make one of them, except in a way you vision them to be interesting while not using the things you dislike. Who knows, maybe you'll end up liking them?

    - Celebrate the burden, and difficulty the weaknesses can produce to your character, not as a weakness nor as mellow side of your character. But a boundary they've overcome and learned to live with in a new and interesting way.

    - Don't try to fulfill everything said here, take pointers to form a character you're not entirely comfortable to play with. Because that's something new, as a constant character maker I can say if you feel that way... you're playing the game in the heart it was intended to be played.
