Well, i've talked about this constantly for the last several months, and its finally here, 50+ new races, along with some fixes/changes to some other things. I don't think there is any other server out there that can claim it has more races than classes! Yeah, i know, you're all going to be asking for more classes now.
First off, changes to existing things that came along during the work.
- Due to the number of undead races it was decided to make inflict wound spells castable on self in order to use them to heal. Take care if not playing an undead that you don't target yourself in the chaos of a battle.
- Barbarian Rages are now instant, although it will still play a short animation. You can break the anim though by attacking or moving.
- Dragon Disciples. When you get your first level in Dragon Disciple or if you already have it, if you use your Dragon Breath, you will be asked to choose your dragon heritage. This will fix your "colour" and change your breath weapon and elemental immunity accordingly. ie: White dragon will give you a cold breath and cold immunity. This is done via a convo and it will inform you which breath/immunity you will get.
- If you are a druid and wildshape into an elemental you will get that elemental's VFX. Previously only the Air Elemental got this.
- Most races should now get at least their own races language. ie: Mountain Orcs should get the Orc language (they were missing it before).
Now on to the notes regarding the new races.
Please read carefully!
- THERE WILL BE BUGS! Hope nobody misses that. I did as much testing as i could, but for certain plenty of things will slip through the net. Report them through the forums as usual, and ill try and fix as quick as i can. If you note any exploits, do not broadcast them, send me a PM. Also, if you think its better to stay quiet and not report advantageous bugs, well, you're only going to be annoyed if your toon gets to ECL30 and then i spot it and majorly nerf your race, so better to report early.
- Gauth (Beholder) - It says it in the race description, but let me repeat it here. Equip armour at your own risk, probability is it will crash your client and render your character inaccessible until an admin fixes it. In the OOC room there is a special shop on the merchant which sells custom armour for non-standard races. It contains two armours for the Beholder, both of which will not cause you problems.
- Bariaur is severely lacking in animations. It can walk, run, and has an unarmed attack. They are not recommended for grinding... but if you want to, sure. They could work as monks or casters i suppose. (testing a two-handed thrusting animation, will see if that works).
- A number of races have the No Manual Dexterity feat. This is to stop creatures which cannot wield weapons from doing so, and in addition this feat is also given to races which have models which don't support wielding things in their hands... or if it does, it looks stupid. This was considered when setting LA on races.
- Giant weapons... they are big. Got that? Please do not ask about medium races being able to wield. Basic giant weapons can be purchased from the OOC room store. They are a new category of weapon. Do not confuse with the giant weapons you may have seen in game occasionally that require the Creature Weapon proficiency - those weapons should not be exist and should be trashed.
- LAs are not finalized for the moment. All staff had the opportunity to comment on the races and speak their mind about LAs. Generally speaking we erred in the side of caution, in case of doubt we set on the high side so we have the option of lowering later in case it is proven that the LA is too high. However, this does not preclude us from raising LAs if warranted. Naturally we will try and avoid this.
- Class/Alignment restrictions - our policy is we do not do any of that because we do not want to restrict creativity. However, be warned, if you do create a Succubus Paladin/Sorcerer we reserve the right to pull faces, call names, and dance around you singing "Munchkin, munchkin, munchkin". Got that? Ok, go ahead, create your Succy Pal/Sorc and we will listen to your empty justification.
Same goes for Nymph Paladins or anything equally silly as well.
- Timers, DCs, and other things related to new feats are subject to change based on feedback. In most cases, usable feats are designed for both flavour and to be useful, so if something is not effective we can consider boosting - get some levels though before commenting. In most cases DCs, damage, effects increase with levels.
- Existing/Old SRRs: If you have an existing SRR from the old system you will note Monster classes are no longer available. Full rebuilds of old style SRRs are not an option any more. If you want to relevel (without rebuild/deletion) only go down to where you took your monster levels. If we discover people cheating on then we will apply punishment, probably in the form of manually increasing the LA to compensate for the extra non-monster levels. We will not support full rebuilds of old SRRs.
