Recent issue: at 2/3rds of the autodownloader's "Check Files" process, it seems to abruptly "Freeze" progress of any kind. This prevents me from entering the server at all.

This seems to have began after I timed or or disconnected from the server without any input from myself.

Oh dear... nothing but issues.

I think we have to go back to basics first.

1) Disable any AV programs before starting the game client.

2) Have you defragged your hard drive recently? If not, do so.

3) Pray to whatever gods you worship and sacrifice a chicken or two.

Let me know if any of those help.

1: Not running any antivirus programs. I am however running the game through WINE (since having problems with anything I ran in windows, this is how I "fixed" it), which worked until then (Additionally: I have reinstalled the game completely several times trying to fix this.)

2: I only installed the OS I'm running roughly a week ago.

3: I fear that not even divine providence can fix this problem.

...By the way, this is ONLY happening with said fresh install of NWN2, and nothing else. I've already tried port forwarding, and it didn't help.

I consider installing Linux a perfectly acceptable solution to all Windows related problems. :D

However, i am aware that it is possible to run Wine on Windows... so just want to check, you are not doing that are you???? If you have underlying windows problems then anything could be going wrong.

If running Wine under Linux, not sure why it would be timing out, I run it exactly the same. However, could be an I/O issue or network timeout issue.

EDIT: Just realized my solution isn't a solution.

Not sure what else to suggest. You seem to have a problem computer. Tried running it through a VM?

Oh, but how long did you wait? When the game crashes it can sometimes provoke a more vigorous check of the server files. I've had it stall at like 2/3 myself, and just have to wait a few mins for it to move again.

I'm currently checking every possible angle- Here's the things I'm doing.

1: Reinstall Neverwinter Nights 2, this time following Crossfire's directions for the GOG.com version.
(Everything I've gotten working through their software has worked, visual glitches or xbox 360 input aside)

2: Forget/Recreate network settings of home network

3: Re-install NWN Extension client (For reintegration of server browser.)

4: Test results.
