When I acquired my first level of eldrich knight, I got the feat selection screen (where, you would normally take the spellcasting progression feat). The feat selection was empty (it was literally blank, there were no feats to be selected). It said I had 1 feat to pick, but the next step button allowed me to progress without it. I thought it would grant me the spellcasting feat at level 2, but it seems without the spellcasting feat, there will be no spellcasting progression on any eldrich knight levels. |

Grab a DM in game, they can help you delevel to where you took that first level of EK and try again. This is likely some sort of one-time glitch, since we haven't made any changes to EKs in forever. And just for reference, what was your build when you took that level? |

Were you by chance a build with Mystic Theurge and less than 5 levels of wizard and 6 levels of sorcerer? because unfortunately, the prc's only count base classes for their spell requirements, so you'll be forced to pick base levels to get the spellcasting advancement (similarly cleric 7 or favored soul 8 for war priest for instance). |

Sorry I didn't put this in in the initial post, just read the bug fourm guidelines! ![]() My breakdown is fighter 5/wizard 2/arcane archer 5/Eldrich Knight 2 currently. That realllly sucks that its bugged and they only count base levels D: If only I knew how to script, I was thinking to myself last night that this might be the case, and that maybe a script could be used to force spellcasting feats onto a character if it has 3rd level casting. I'll ask a DM IG when I hop in to de-level/re-level me (just to see), in a few hours. Thanks! |

It has to do with the 2da files. Those spellcasting progression feats are dependent upon a lot of things.... First of all, the class' prereqs table (cls_pres_****.2da) usually allows you to enter the class based on your arcane or divine caster level. The class then has to award bonus feats at 1st level (cls_bfeat_****.2da), and the spellcaster progressions are laid out in the class' feat table (cls_feat_****.2da). Then another one (cls_featmap_****.2da) determines which spellcasting classes can advance and what the feat number is. Which then takes us to feat.2da, which has to specificy the class and minimum level in that class to allow the feat. This has to be done because otherwise you could use bard to qualify for a class, but then use it to advance wizard that you only one level in. So yes, those all combine to screw over concept builds that involve stacking prestige spellcasting classes. |

you know I don't really see that as an advantage to do. unless theres a prestige class that advances bard abilites if choses as bard required and raised and get to choose wizard casting. there is a couple keadrin classes that do that. but whats on our server. that seems like a really silly thing to do that give you no real advantages build. |

Not so much of an advantage as something that would take an extensive amount of work to change. |
