I can't see my portrait ingame. I use the same code as for other portraits, the others work, but not the new ones. (Halfling goes up to 54, but 55-78 are missing texture) Am I missing something ? Do I need to update a file somewhere ? |

Not all of the Portraits submitted made it into the update, I'd assume. |

Well, none of them did for me. And they're in the photobucket list. So I imagine there's a bug somewhere. EDIT : Oh nevermind, portrait.hak is updating now. Sorry about that. |

Well, sometimes the typical manga style is hard to separate from the personal styles of different artists and the manga style of art isn't even consistent between different artists. This image in particular I think illustrates how hard it is to nail down any specific style of art. |

There are already far more "anime-istic" pictures than those. Unrealistic or "chibi" would be bad, but simply deciding "the eyes are a bit wide and the chin is pointed" is a means for exclusion would be a bad place to start; I'll also point out that the first five pictures in that list are all the same artist, but . Particularly as I can point to quite a few we have in that are of lower quality than those. |

Outright anime characters were disallowed, not japanese artists, if I recall Agony's wording correctly. |
|
"From the realms below we ride, And in terror they run and hide, From the shadows of old we rise, Awakened, from the dark! Over the ancient ruins we fly, Where the old kings go to die, And the new kingdoms rising high, Awakened, from the dark, dark slumber!" | |

I assume he just didn't want a weeb-storm of anime pictures to flood the gallery. |

Well the two pictures Alersia poked at, those are not characters from animes. Those are pictures from the COVERS of an independently produced manga-style book that's not actually made in Japan. But more importantly, they were chosen because despite the art style, they're extremely high quality, whereas you are probably never going to find that sort of quality involving characters from well-known anime. Not to mention that so many are instantly identifiable as "famous" characters, and would fall into the same issue that submitting pictures of Driz'zt or Elminster would. *Throws a little ball at the group of orcs.* Handmaiden Erinyes, I choose you! On a side note, I think we're about to the point where, unless the pictures are aimed towards something severely under-represented in the gallery, people probably need to be submitting one or two they're interested in using for their characters rather than "here's 80 pictures of blonde female halflings I found this morning". Sure it's nice to have options, but when it becomes a three-hour chore to sort through all the pictures of halflings to find the one that fits best, things have gotten a bit out of hand. |

I'm actually kind of at the point that Cere mentioned, to be honest. It's been a thought for a while. Like... do we really need 200 images no one is going to use? I think a variety is good, but it's quite pointless downloading all these extra portraits no one will ever touch. Just a thought, but with the gallery as full as it is now. . . perhaps posts should be limited to filling requests and submission of pictures you'll actually use? |

I wouldn't quite go that far Nimi. The portrait files are ridiculously small, generally less than 50kb, and when you throw in the compression that occurs during the staging process you're only really downloading around 3MB of data for the 2016 files (hah, coincidence!) already in our portrats HAK, and the fact that it's not being updated constantly means it's not really bogging anyone down. I just think the days of a single person dropping 50 or 60 portraits at one fell swoop should be over, and yes, new ones should be more along the lines of "I think this WILL be used" than "someone might use this someday maybe". On the other hand, when new races and classes roll out, people may want to do a little hunting just so there's something that reflects the new character. |

Extracted the discussion from the pictures. Oh, and RapSam... all of the photos you submitted are linking to a "missing image" graphic now. You may want to update the links in your post if you still want your images added. |
